The neighborhood gem is well known as a comfortable place to come with friends or family. The space is airy with plenty of windows, offers indoor and patio dining and a spacious bar. The menu offers both seafood and Italian offerings. The food was tasty and portions were a good size. Bar staff are great at mixing up your drink of choice. Good selection of wines as well. My husband and I were looking forward to trying Libertine, especially since I was excited to see a Portuguese-inspired restaurant on the menu. We originally considered the crab cakes appetizer, but our server mentioned it might not be what we were expecting and recommended the choco frites instead. Unfortunately, we didn’t enjoy the appetizer—it fell short in both flavor and texture. For our main courses, my husband ordered the ribeye, which he said was fine—comparable to what you’d find at other Portuguese restaurants around the North Shore. I had the cod, and as someone Portuguese, I was hoping for more traditional flavor. It lacked the salty, rich taste I associate with classic bacalhau dishes and felt underseasoned overall. On the positive side, my husband really enjoyed his cocktail, and our daughter loved the wings—she said they were delicious. Overall, the food was just okay. We wanted to love it, but it didn’t quite live up to the excitement we felt going in.
