Tucked into the stylish corridors of Winter Park, Chayote Barrio Kitchen is a brilliant addition to Central Florida’s culinary landscape. From the moment you arrive, you’re greeted by a stunning, modern exterior softened with lush greenery, setting the tone for an experience where design, comfort, and gastronomy are perfectly in sync. Inside, the ambiance is vibrant and sophisticated. The space is adorned with artistic touches, including a bold and playful geometric partition that adds flair without overwhelming. Plush seating, warm lighting, and artful accents create an inviting and elevated atmosphere. The menu is a thoughtful celebration of Latin-inspired cuisine with modern twists. We started with the Tostones with Tuna Tartar, delicately perched on crispy plantain rounds—an elegant blend of freshness, texture, and citrusy brightness. The Croquetas with coconut shrimp and guava aioli delivered a rich, sweet-savory harmony, showcasing the chef’s creativity. For the main course, the Chuleta was a standout: a perfectly grilled Niman Ranch double pork chop paired with roasted garlic Maduro mash and a peppery arugula salad—bold, juicy, and deeply satisfying. The Ropa Vieja Lasagna was another surprise: layered with stewed brisket, heirloom tomato, and a bold romesco sauce, it brought comfort food into fine dining territory. The service was impeccable—warm, professional, and intuitive. Our server guided us seamlessly through the menu, and every dish arrived beautifully presented. Great time with new friends. The server was able to make vegetable substitution on their specialty plate and it came out fantastic!

This was a neighborhood treasure for years. Unfortunately Sunday was the last day at this location. They are to re-open next year at a new location on Park Avenue. We can't wait.
