Located in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans, N7 is a neighborhood French restaurant and wine bar. Founded by filmmaker Aaron Walker and chef Yuki Yamaguchi, N7 specializes in French cuisine, often infused with a Japanese touch. The restaurant is set off the street behind a tall fence amidst a garden, with indoor and outdoor seating. The wine menu is focused on small European winemakers who adhere to a natural, handmade approach to winemaking: little or no added sulfites, natural yeasts and the use of no pesticides.N7’s name derives from Nationale 7 (N7), the highway that once ran from Paris to the border of Italy. Known as the “Route des Vacances”, vacationing Parisians would take the road on their way South. Along the way, the Michelin Guide would direct them to the mom and pop restaurants which began to appear in farmhouses and hotels along the way to cater to them. Hence the origin of the Michelin Star. ***NO ONE UNDER THE AGE OF 18 ADMITTED.***

Compere Lapin delivered a dining experience that was worth every bit of the wait. I have been trying to get a reservation here for the past three years, ever since learning about Chef Nina Compton in early 2020, just a month before the COVID shutdown, during a Black History Month event in Seattle alongside Chef Edouardo Jordan of JuneBaby. Both are James Beard Award–winning chefs, and that moment stayed with me. Securing a solo seat on this trip felt rare, and it absolutely lived up to the anticipation. I chose the “just feed me” tasting option, which was the perfect way to experience the range of the menu. Each dish was thoughtfully composed, balanced, and full of flavor. What stood out most was the cultural reverence woven throughout the meal, a seamless fusion of her St. Lucian roots and her chosen home of New Orleans. It did not feel like a blend for the sake of creativity, but rather a grounded expression of identity, memory, and place. Dining solo can sometimes feel rushed or overlooked, but that was not the case here. The experience felt intentional, welcoming, and unrushed. If you appreciate food that tells a story with clarity and care, Compere Lapin is worth planning ahead for.

Absolutely delicious- whipped ricotta appetizer, Bianco pizza and the zeppole dessert were all incredible- highly recommend this restaurant. That white pizza was one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had - and Ive eaten a lot of pizza in many different cities - multiple layers of flavors all balanced perfectly - not overwhelming but a perfect flavor combination. The visual presentation of the food was also amazing!
