- BBobLos Angeles •6 reviews4.0Dined 3 days agoA very nice meal and time was had by all. Food was outstanding in all respects. The difference between a 5 star experience and this particular meal was the service, which was good but not equal to the reputation of the restaurant. Having been a head waiter and som at a fine dining restaurant, I know the standard. Wait staff need to obsess about the customers, keep their eyes moving and anticipate needs. Example: We were asked mid meal about needing anything...with two empty water glasses sitting on our table. That happened twice. And response was unacceptably slow. My take is that young, bubbly servers need much more training, and insistence about being 100% present while they work at TJG. If service doesn't equal food quality and presentation, that "last star" is never happening.More infoThe Jackalope GrillPrice: Expensive• Contemporary American• Bend•4.7

- BBrianVIPPortland / Oregon •7 reviews5.0Dined on Apr 22, 2025We usually only go out for supper once a week, but when I saw Salute Restaurant & Bar Bend post about their gnocchi special tonight, I looked at Jim and said, “We’re eating out two nights in a row!” I kicked things off with an Italian Margarita while Jim ordered a pilsner from pFriem. The amaretto float in the margarita gave it this amazing aftertaste that made me go, “Wait, what was that?”—in the best way. We both chose the “Local Special,” which includes a three-course meal for just $39. Such a great deal! For starters, Jim had the Caesar salad, and I went with the zuppa di cipolle. The onion soup was rich and flavorful, and I especially loved the cheese toasts on top—just like we do at home. Jim’s Caesar was creamy, well-balanced, and hit all the right notes. For our mains, Jim ordered the scampi, which he said had a bright citrus flavor and just the right touch of garlic. I, of course, had the gnocchi special. Let me tell you, those gnocchi were light, airy, and practically pillowy. The pomodoro sauce was simple and perfect, letting the gnocchi shine. Dessert was a win, too. I had the strawberry cannoli—stuffed with ricotta and mascarpone, topped with fresh strawberries and toasted pistachios. It was crispy, lightly sweet, and a perfect finish to the meal. Jim was too full to enjoy his tiramisu at the table, but he took it to go and it looked beautiful—he’ll be digging in later tonight. Service was excellent! I’m kicking myself for forgetting our server’s name, but she was warm, attentive, and made sure we were having a great time. Her friendly chit-chat added that extra special touch to an already wonderful evening. Fingers crossed that gnocchi becomes a regular on the menu—hint hint! We’ll definitely keep the Local Special in mind next time we’re deciding where to eat.More infoSalute Restaurant & BarPrice: Expensive• Contemporary Italian• Bend•4.8
- BBrianVIPPortland / Oregon •7 reviews5.0Dined on Apr 21, 2025We love celebrating milestones—big or small—so tonight we raised a glass at Blacksmith to mark 8 years since our move to Bend! I kicked things off with a Hotter Pink—a bold mix of X-Rated liqueur (French vodka, Sicilian blood orange, mango, and passion fruit), Cascade Lakes vodka, sour mix, and a kick of jalapeño. Jim went classic with a crisp Crux Pils. I couldn’t resist the soup of the day: a creamy potato leek topped with crispy onions—absolutely delicious. For dinner, I had the wedge salad (always a favorite!) and a perfectly cooked flat iron steak. Jim went with the chicken Marsala, and let’s just say there were no leftovers on his plate. I saved a bit of steak—hello, tacos tomorrow! We skipped dessert because Jim made a cheesecake at home, and I whipped up a fresh strawberry sauce to go with it. Blacksmith never disappoints—it’s our go-to spot for celebrating life’s moments, and tonight was no exception.More infoThe Blacksmith RestaurantPrice: Expensive• Steakhouse• Bend•4.4
