Great wines by the glass; selection of appetizers fabulous and hard to decide which one to order; and my lamb shank was scrumptious and the other 2 in our party had the crab cakes with a lovely presentation of black beans and salsa for a fun twist on a classic. It's a Williamsburg Favorite for a reason!!
The food, the service, the atmosphere were outstanding. The pork chop dish is not to be missed!
Birthday celebration was fabulous as always. Tables spaced for social distancing. Masks in place for all service personnel. Was very comfortable and enjoyable experience.
Great evening out with Friends. wonderful staff and service , meals were excellent. Thank you
We came for our first anniversary and had the most wonderful experience from start to finish.
Wonderful meal in Williamsburg. Would definitely return when in town again.
We had an amazing time! We had set a reservation a week prior for our 10 year wedding anniversary. When we arrived it seemed the staff was expecting us, and were happy we were there. They printed a special menu, that had our names and Happy Anniversary on it and the staff had all signed it! It was just an amazing thoughtful touch. They really took care of us and the food was fantastic. I would definitely recommend to anyone. And we will definitely be returning when we go back to Williamsburg.
The food is excellent, and the service incredible!
Amazing food and stellar service--one of the top two restaurants in Williamsburg, IMO. My husband rarely waxes rhapsodic about a dish, but the exquisite cauliflower soup with fried oysters on top (a special) had him positively gushing--it had so many layers of flavor and texture. My foie gras appetizer was one of the best I've ever had--just a hint of sweetness from a berry reduction, cut by the sharpness of microgreens. (Some restaurants go overboard on the sweetness with foie gras--I've never been a fan of that approach.) And it went perfectly with my cocktail, the autumn-spiced manhattan, which was delish--also not overly sweet. The server went out of her way to check their wine shop to see if they had a bottle of wine I'd seen on their website but was no longer on the wine list. Entrees--a halibut special and the heritage pork chop--were wonderful as well--but honestly I was experiencing sensory overload from the fantastic appetizers! Another lovely and memorable meal.
Very best Halibut we have ever had! Was our 25th wedding anniversary and the staff made everything very special for us. Thank you!
Every bite was delicious and special.
We have eaten at Fat Canary multiple times over the last 5 or 6 years and have always been pleased with the experience and food. I was concerned about dining out since the pandemic start but they made it worth our while to go there. Sitting on the patio was almost like being back in Italy and the food was as if they had kicked everything up a notch. Our drinks were exceptionally good and the short ribs and the lobster fettuccine
were just splendid. Heartily recommend visiting if you go to the Colonial city and I only wish we lived closer to them.
Server was absolutely amazing (Neil maybe?). We had an amazing date night and the food was fantastic. We would absolutely come back and recommend.
Avery pleasant experience. When everything else seems to be closed, the Fat Canary is open for business and anxious to serve.
Excellent food, well served. Bit high on $ but good.
The food is always fresh and hot. We felt very safe eating here during Covid. Service is always friendly and professional.
Everything was absolutely terrific. Kate, our waitress, was so helpful and friendly. The good, as always, was super delicious. It’s a must visit.
Getting together with friends since before COVID-19 !! Excellent experience !
Amazing as always! Erica was excellent and the food spectacular as always.
A wonderful experience on this visit, as always. Food/drinks, service, value and atmosphere all A+. Soup of day was excellent, along of course with the regular menu. Wine list is diverse and if you can't find what you want the wine shop downstairs has additional selections.
I chose the "special" appetizer and entree, so may not be 100% representative , but this was the best meal I have had in a year or more. Just simply outstanding food. Ambience , noise level, service were Ok (outside). But the wine and food were exquisite.
Excellent! Did not disappoint.
If you're near Williamsburg, this is the restaurant to go to.
We went on a Sunday night. It's more energetic than we had expected, but still not so loud that you couldn't have a conversation with your table. There's an open kitchen in the rear of the restaurant and watching the chef and staff cook was a highlight of the night.
Service is welcoming, knowledgable, and attentive without being overbearing. The bar kept drinks full, the waitress kept food coming to the table with impeccable timing.
The food was phenomenal. We had the soup (that day was Parsnip) together. My husband had the lobster fettuccine, lamb shank, and sorbet. I had the fricassée of rabbit, guinea fowl, and chocolate mousse.
Everything is selected with care; preparation is mindful but not pretentious. Without going into a full breakdown of each course, know that there was not one course we did not enjoy. Everything is balanced, the flavors of ingredients are showcased rather than hidden. Speaking with the waitress, all of the staff is involved in food preparation and they restaurant thrives on farm-to-table and minimizing food waste. The care they put into the food is wholly evident from entree to dessert (also, all made in house... and absolutely wonderful).
Start to finish, this was one of the best meals we've had in quite some time, and definitely up there in terms of one of the best overall restaurant experiences we've had. We both would return without hesitation.
This place is amazing at always. Our server provided excellent service with such a wonderful attitude. They have amazing food & a great staff. We cannot wait to come back.
Wife and I were on a date (1st one in a year). The ambiance for a date was perfect. It actually worked out perfectly the way the tables were spread out due to Covid. The lamb was good but the short ribs were fantastic. The bartender matched a cabernet for us that blended vwry nicely. Our waitress came at the perfect time and was there when we needed her and not overbearing like some places. Will definitely be coming back.
Everything was as expected. Details, details, details. Never disappoints.
Excellent food, excellent dining experience. Highly recommended
Exceeded expectations. Wanted to sit outdoors but they do not reserve outdoor tables. So we sat inside by the window which was lovely, had a nice view and was away from other tables. Food was outstanding. I had the Grouper special. The Fois Gras was also excellent as was dessert. Service was attentive, professional and friendly. Highlight evening of our trip Would go back again and again!
First experience at Fat Canary. Good pacing on the meal. About a half-dozen entrees listed, plus the day's special. Heather had the scallops and salad, I had the pork chop. VERY good pork chop. My wine was Early Mountain Red Blend. A good wine, but just not a good pairing with the chop...a Zin would have been better. She had a good Viognier from Oregon. We are partial to this grape, having been blown away by a '92 pressing from Horton winery outside of Gordonsville.
We have come to Williamsburg for many years. Fat Canary is now one of our favorites.
This place deserves a Michelin star. The food is reliably fantastic; creative, fresh, interesting, delicious. The servers know every detail about each dish, and are attentive without hovering.
Great time the rabbit app was outstanding!
We had a late dinner. 8:30. Not a lot of people inside. Scallops where amazing as well as the pork chop!! Service was amazing. I highly recommend 🙂
Fat Canary never disappoints. It's consistently excellent food. Whenever we are in Williamsburg we always are sure to eat there at least once and on our recent visit we at there on two evenings. It's the best food in Williamsburg!
Spectacular! We ordered lots of items and enjoyed every one!
We dined at the Fat Canary on Saturday evening. My choice was a perfectly grilled pork chop with a delicious goat cheese bread pudding and chopped apples prepared in a sauce.
My husband had broiled grouper with Carolina shrimp dish which he said was delicious.
Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable about the wine list and dinner menu
on a busy evening. Thank you for an enjoyable dining experience with our friends.
We were celebrating My fiancé’s birthday and decided to have his special dinner here and it did not disappoint! Meal was exceptional and our server, Erica, really made the experience extra special!!
Outstanding food and service.
My daughter and I enjoyed our meals. The Fat Canary never disappoints. The food was delicious!
Excellent food and service. Highly recommended. Very enjoyable visit.
An incredible experience! The food was inventive, beautifully presented and very tasty. Our servie kept a watchful eye on our table so that all was delivered in a timely fashion. The quality of the food and service made this a great value.
