Fairview is a wonderful, relaxing restaurant. Two of us had the filet mignon which was cooked to perfection. I had the special which was a modified "surf and turf" consisting of shrimp, beef rib over grits. It was a very filling and tasty.
The Fairview Dining Room never has disappointed us in 15 years. When we have a special occasion, we choose to come here. The food was beyond outstanding. We did miss the piano, but understand during this pandemic time why it was removed. Hopefully, it will be back along with the white linen table cloths soon. Thank you for making our special occasion very memorable.
Delicious, as always! The service was awesome as well.
Attentive service, excellent food, socially distanced,
Excellent that they are open for indoor dining.
Delicious beet salad, duck entree and sorbet dessert.
I have eaten here many times but was very disappointed in the lunch entree I had, crab cake which was not as tasty as usual and the squash was so loaded with that minced garlic from the jar that I could barely get that awful taste out of my mouth. The fried ocra were delicious however.
I’m very fussy about crab cake, only eat them at certain restaurants in Maryland. These were some of the best I ever had. Good service. Lovely outdoor seating.
This restaurant, pre-COVID, had an outstanding, extensive and creative menu. Now, with the paired down menu, it’s much more difficult to find a dinner entree to suit your palette. The service, this time, was also VERY slow. After we were finished with dinner, we waited 25 minutes to get the check. This is the polar opposite experience we have always had here.
Thank you for both your patronage as well as taking the time to offer your feedback. We strive to deliver a holistic experience which brings together the best of provisions, ambience and service, and quite obviously we fell short. Timeliness and the array of selections are critical components of any dining experience, and your feedback is being given the fullest consideration. We hope you will accept our sincere apology, and an opportunity to make future amends.
This is a qualified revue. The food and service were top notch as always. But because of the pandemic, it was not the same overall experience. For a time we were the only folks in the dining room. And this was a Saturday night after a home football game. The menu has been condensed. There is no wine list to speak of, just a few wines by the glass but for us that was ok. We had brought our own. I do have to stress that EVERYTHING we ordered was delicious. If you need to get out and have a well cooked meal you cannot do much better than Fairview Dining Room.
Had a terrible experience this time around, food was ok, not that great, but service was horrible. We were seated at a table which was dirty, waiter was horrible, he was not understanding/ answering any of our questions on the menu including how big was portion. He did not bother get us bread basket although he had offered bread to the tables behind and in front of us, and when we asked for bread, he made it sound as if he was offering out of his graciousness. Horrible experience, will never go back
Thank you very much for your previous patronage, and particularly for your feedback regarding what was obviously an unsatisfactory experience. We strive to deliver a superior dining experience and quite obviously fell far short. Your observations have been shared with all members of the team as a pointed reminder that each service is experienced individually, and to reemphasize the import of our standards. We hope you will accept our sincere apology, and an opportunity to make future amends.
Excellent food, great safety precautions. Dare I say it almost felt like a "normal" restaurant experience. Also appreciated the attention given to food allergies in my group. We will definitely return.
Came here to celebrate my wife’s Birthday, and boy did they not disappoint! We had a fabulous time. Everything about this restaurant is meticulously crafted to be a 5-star experience. From the Maître’D and waiter addressing us by name, to the incredible selection of food and drink, to the overall ambience… it was perfect. We were both well-pleased with our food choices; and then to top it off, they brought us out a great dessert as well. We both left agreeing that it was one of the best experiences we’d had at a fine dining establishment in years. We’ll definitely be going back.
It was great to find only of the only places in Durham where fine dining is available indoors as well as outdoors. Roast duck and scallops were excellent gluten free choices with great sorbet selection for dessert.
Restaurant took particular care for patron's safety. Food was great
Had the steak special was amazing. It was seasoned with prosciutto which I had never had before and It was absolutely one of the most creative dishes I’ve seen and was equally as tasty the brussels sprouts were out of this world
You will not be disappointed with the food weather an appetizer, dinner or desert all will be enjoyed. The service has always been fantastic
We have dined here on special occasions for twenty years. It was sad. We were the only patrons. The white tablecloths replaced with vinyl shelf liner. Tables for two all gone. The piano gone. The price fix dinner gone. May the COVID go away very soon.
Service was impeccable and masks were on and appreciated - patio was delightful despite a gray day!
Very good!
They have established very strict rules for mask wearing. Specifically they demanded we put on our masks anytime a waiter approached. It was annoying to be taking a sip of wine and have a waiter approach, interrupting our conversation and demanding we put down the wine and put on a mask so they could clear a plate. We were treated like misbehaving school children. It was also difficult to order a bottle of wine. For whatever reason, they have not updated their wine list. So we were required to request a wine, then the waiter would go check and see if they actually had it. We went through two choices and finally in exasperation I settled for the most common wine on the menu, because this back and forth was threatening to go on all evening.
I won’t go back until the COVID crisis is over.
Thank you very much for your patronage, and particularly for your feedback regarding the mask policies in place at the hotel's dining venues, and the manner of interactions during your recent visit. We strive to deliver an experience which unites ambience, provision and service in superior fashion, and we obviously fell far short. Your observations are being afforded the fullest consideration, and we hope you will accept our sincere apology, and an opportunity to make future amends.
Having to put a mask on every time the server approached was irritating and impractical. If your going to ask a guest to do that, you need a totally online system from ordering to paying, with refill bottles being placed on table. We dine out all the time and this is the first time we have encountered this request.
Thank you for your feedback regarding the mask policies at our dining venues, and for taking the time to share your experience. Quite certainly our goal is to afford a seamless and refined experience for all we're privileged to host, and you highlight a need for us to evaluate the procedures and processes implemented in the interest of health and hygiene. Your observations have been afforded the fullest consideration, and we hope you'll accept our apology and a chance to make amends.
The food, the service and the ambiance were fantastic. This is the most beautiful outdoor seating I have been to. Thank you for helping me celebrate my moms milestone birthday.
The setting for the bar and restaurant are nearly perfect. Well appointed rooms, relaxing views of the grounds, a quiet place for a special event. But it's not the place we'll go for our next special event. It was our anniversary and the mood was constantly interrupted by (I presume) students walking in and out in gym clothes. My wife and I had "dressed up" for our celebration, thinking the tasteful surroundings hinted at what to expect. The food and service didn't disappoint. Using the restaurant as a short cut to the locker room did. If all you want is a quiet spot after a round of golf, the Fairview will do very nicely. If, however, it's a special occasion, I'd look elsewhere.
Loved the Chicken and Crab Cakes and the Shrimp and Grits were one of the best we have had. Also, there is no better bartender than Tim!
Beautiful setting, excellent service, wonderful food help make for a perfect birthday celebration. Safeguards were in place for pandemic style dining. An overall outstanding night out.
We went to the Fairview dinning room for our anniversary dinner. The room was nice, nothing extravagant, nothing extraordinary about it, but nice. Although we did have reservations, I didn't see the need as in the dinning room, there was only one other table occupied. There were a few other tables occupied outside, but not many. Service was very attentive and prompt. We ordered the pulled pork spring rolls and they came in a reasonable amount of time and were very good. The portion was much larger than expected, they could easily be an entree' for one person. The main meal followed quickly but not too quickly, perfect timing. I had the filet and my wife had a chicken dish. Again portions were very generous and the flavor was very good. My only complaint was that the food was warm. Not hot, but warm. With the minimal number of people seated, there is no reason why the food should have been sitting under a warmer lamp, it should have been much warmer. The appetizer came out hot.
The waiter said that they had a special surprise for us after the mail meal. He brought out a Chocolate Lava cake with ice cream and a Chocolate "Happy Anniversary" tag. That was very thoughtful and nice and it was greatly appreciated, and they didn't charge us. I honestly do not recall stating that it was our anniversary when I made the reservations.
Overall it was a pleasant evening and meal.
My only other issue was that when any staff comes to your table, you need to put a mask on or other face covering. I understand that is their policy, it just took us by surprise when when got there and the waiter told us that. There was no mention anywhere about that.
Was able to eat outside with appropriate social distancing. Felt very comfortable
One of our first dining out experiences post-COVid. Excellent attention to precautions by the staff from start to finish. Food was excellent, service was very good. Not many diners, noise level low. Felt safe here.
They were very respectful of physical distancing and protecting everyone by wearing masks whenever they came to the table. The food was good as usual. This was the first time I have been inside a restaurant since the pandemic began and it felt safe.
We enjoyed meeting friends for dinner. The hotel and restaurant are beautiful. We had hoped to eat outside but the weather didn’t cooperate. The food and service were both excellent. Even though we were asked to put our masks on each and every time the wait staff approached the table - the ambiance made up for the inconvenience. We hope to return in the near future.
Great food, great service, excellent COVID protocol!
Be mindful of the 19% service charge already added to your tab.
We celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary with impeccable food and outstanding service in a very quiet and romantic booth overlooking the golf course. We started with delightful lemon gin martinis and split a Caesar salad, which was more than ample for us both. Our main courses were timed perfectly and arrived as tantalizing to the eyes as they were to our pallet. I had the short rib with basil risotto, and he had the strip, medium rare, which was cooked perfectly and arrives with a delicious succotash. We finished the evening with coffee/tea and a decadent peach melba. A truly memorable dining experience.
My wife’s salad was to have no anchovies none on it but it tasted like fish oil was used.
I asked for a specific Anjeo they brought something other then stated it was what I requested as if I didn’t know my own brand. Came back later with the correct brand stating it’s on me.
Just an off putting night two salads add protein 150.00 plus a wine and a Anjeo
Little off putting also. :((
I’m a former Duke Asst. Coach :((
Very COVID-19 friendly and very clean and skilled staff.
Fairview has made the necessary modifications to allow for indoor dining during the current pandemic. My husband and I felt safe while eating, had a responsive server, and had the same delicious food as always. Note, they do have a more limited menu than normal, and there was no bread service or chef’s amuse bouche.
Nothing beats the Fairview in my book! Everything is always perfect. Wouldn’t think of going anywhere else for an elegant dining experience.
Always a great experience. The ambience on the porch can’t be beat!
The steak was perfectly cooked and the ambiance couldn’t have been better. They made a special dessert for my dad’s birthday which was the cherry on top of everything. Very much enjoyed it.
This was our first foray out to a restaurant since the stay-at-home -- we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. It was a terrific experience. The Fairview was well-prepared -- e.g., no paper menus (QR code to read with our phones, which worked well), our excellent and attentive waiter wore a mask, and silverware and glasses were not sitting out on the table but delivered to us as we ordered our meals. (The few other diners were seated far from us.) The food, as always, was delicious, and I was pleased that there was flexibility within the menu for me order the salmon but with the accompaniments of the "coastal catch" -- amazingly refreshing sugar snap pea slaw and tomato salad. A very pleasant and memorable evening!
Excellent service and they were super careful about the safety protocols. So important during this time!!
