Wonderful food, service, and ambience as always. Thank you so much for such a lovely evening. 😊
Love the shrimp and grits. Creme brule bananas foster was excellent. Even had gluten free bread.
Great food great atmosphere great fun!!
Very quiet and uncrowded (but not deserted), a boon in this COVID era. For warmer days there are heaters and a covered outdoor space. The Shrimp and Grits was extremely good. A bit stuffy in ambience, but I knew that so no complaint. DItto on the priciness - it's part of the particular old-fashioned "elegance" of WaDuke.
Very good food and ambiance. Service was quite slow at times.
This is a very good and quiet place to have a lovely lunch. Totally recommend.
Well prepared food served in a gracious setting. Professional wait staff.
The cuisine was exquisite and the service was excellent. Love the experience
Lovely setting, veey good lunch, nice patio. Good choice.
Very attentive service, pleasant ambiance, good food -- perhaps more of a "special occasion" restaurant than an everyday venue.
It's a fancy, classy place and it's superb. The food is great. Service is perfect. It's exactly what you'd expect of a traditionally fine dining place. On this latest visit, we had the lamb chops, which were amazing. The So Sassy drink was unanimously the best drink among it, the Greyhound, and their Bloody Mary. And omg Carolina Gold Rice!!! Very tasty. Will come back again.
Great service and a wonderful meal for my daughter’s birthday. They surprised her with a wonderful dessert to celebrate. Will definitely go again soon.
Always exceeds expectations!
Outstanding chef's special of sautéed scallops on cheese grits and prosciutto, with a beurre blanc sauce. Truly, one of the best dishes I've had in a long time. Everything at the Fairview is highly professional and pleasant.
A very nice environment but the food was not worth the price. The cream of mushroom soup needed cream. The shrimp and grits were the most expensive I’ve had and the least assertive when it came to flavor. The sangria was VERY fruity, but I’m not convinced there was any alcohol in it. And then there was the daily special- a rib eye steak. What they put in front of, me was a floppy, 3/4-inch thick slab of “meat” that covered about 80% of the plate. The potatoes were buried beneath it. It was cooked nicely and was very flavorful. The problem was that when I was done with the edible part of the meal, the remaining fat and gristle still covered about 60% of the plate. I actually Googled rib eye steak images during the meal to be certain that my expectations were reasonable.
When I expressed my disappointment to the waiter, he acknowledged that it did contain a lot of fat. Well, if he knew that, why did he serve it? (Obviously because he’s likely a Duke student putting in his time and taking orders from the kitchen pros.). There was no offer to compensate me for this $44 disappointment.
It was my wife’s birthday and my son and his girlfriend were with us, so I did not make a big deal about the situation. There was no offer to compensate me for this $44 disappointment. And yes, I tipped nicely because I can afford to and because restaurant personnel are far from overpaid. And since the tips are split, I saw point in hurting everyone because one person made a bad decision to serve this piece if meat, fat and gristle.
Overall just not worth the price. You can get far better food at a much lower price at other places in Durham
While the food was good, the service was very slow. This was surprising given that there were very few people there.
Beautiful outdoor table perfect place to celebrate a graduation with a party of 8 people and lots of champagne!
Quiet and relaxed fine dining. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Order the pimento cheese appetizer, salmon entree and don't miss the peach tart with ice cream for dessert. You'll be happy you did.
WE had the best meal we've had in months. The Diver Scallops were huge. The entire dish was just fantastic. I wish I could still ave that wonderful taste in my mouth. Outside on the patio for a perfect evening
Varied menu for all diets. Excellent service. Food exceptional.
Daniel was excellent! Sweet tea is always on point.
Had late (9pm) reservation and they’d run out of chicken, so ordered steak. Asked for medium well but got very rare steak. salad was excellent. My guest’s caesar salad included a big anchovy with its eyes still in tact. Service was good snd atmosphere is very nice.
Wonderful dining experience. Great service and delicious food.
Gorgeous setting outside with attentive wait staff and good food. The only negative was a noisy table behind us.
This was our first time here. I'm always leery of restaurants inside hotels, because the food and service isn't usually very good, but we decided to give it a try. I have to say were pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere was very elegant and quiet. Our waitress was prompt and attentive. My wife got a garden salad and baked chicken with mushrooms and potatoes. I got the potato soup and the salmon with a pea risotto. The food was seasoned well and the portions were big enough we had to take our food home. Then we had an extra surprise, we were treated to live piano music towards the end of our meal which made the evening a little more special. Our hats go off to the staff and chef for breaking the mold on a hotel restaurant, we are glad we took the chance and tried it out.
Upscale, refined with excellent service. Reasonable lunch value.
A unique and elegant dining experience. Great especially for those that are looking to hold conversations as the noise level is so low - it is could be mistaken for a library.
The staff is accommodating and fantastic. Our requests made for my special guest, was handled perfectly. Simply put one of the most memorable evenings in my life thanks to this wonderful venue, food and staff.
The menu has been expanded to provide something for almost anyone. The same care of presentation and taste are still quite evident. Our dinner of roast chicken was delicious as usual. The only disappointment was the cheese rolls, which did not match or memory of past meals.
We’ve never been disappointed with our dining experience at the Fairview! Their service is impeccable and their food is always done with perfection. Nice atmosphere for a romantic meal, as we were celebrating our 38th Anniversary.
Limited food choice but the sulerb service and ambience compensates that. Menu is moderately priced for the experience. Desserts are nice too.
Incredible dinner experience.
Both Bryan (restaurant manager) and Candace (server) were delightful.
Food was beautifully prepared and served. Recommended wine was superb.
Tried one of their featured cocktails and it was crazy good. The little cheese biscuits that are served prior to the meal simply melted in our mouths. Heavenly!
First time there, we will definitely come back when in town.
Went at noon on a Sunday and miss so much the dessert table that used to be there for brunch. Please consider offering a dessert sample platter for the table. We used to love the small portions of the desserts and could enjoy more than one.
Beautiful setting, varied menu, attentive service. A treat!
lovely setting, very well-prepared, interesting food, gave us as a gift a desert for our special occasion
The Fairview is coming back to life after jogging in place through Covid. Good was uniformly good from old staples to the specials. Drinks were well mixed and potent too Service was on point and pleasant
Looking forward to even better as the menu gets more adventurous and changes week to week
We had an excellent meal at Fairview. The steaks were cooked to perfection and the crab cakes have returned to their past glory! Wonderful night with friends. The service was friendly and attentive.
Excellent dinner and service. Quiet and relaxing. The lamb and filet were excellent. We tried grits for the first time and their take on them was wonderful. Enjoyed the pimento cheese appetizer as well. Would recommend for a special occasion.
The quality of the food, the ambiance and the service were all very good.
We were staying at the Washington Duke Inn and decided to eat here for convenience, and we’re so glad we did! The food was delicious, the drinks were spot on, and the wait staff was excellent. We highly recommend!
