Emmer & Rye

As always food and service were excellent!!! Definitely one of our favorite Austin restaurants.
Amazing subtle blend of flavors!! We were pleased with everything we ordered!
My friend and I had a girls night out and started at Emmer and Rye. It was easy to get a 530 or 545 reservation the day-of but otherwise you have to make a reservation at least a few days in advance. I wish we would have sat at the chefs table/bar (just bc it’s more fun) but we were seated at a booth which was not as comfortable as most booths). We let the server choose our menu because we were not in a deciding mood. From the menu we had: the shrimp (not good, very fishy), the broccoli (yum), and the spaghetti (triple yum). We also had many things from the dim sum cart (bread with butter and avocado spread were both great and the oysters were delish...the bok Choy salad was not so good). We had some other things but I don’t really remember bc the drinks were also delicious!!! We did the bartender roulette with tequila and we both loved our drinks!!!
Once again does not disappoint with the freshness and creativeness of cuisine, this is still my favorite restaurant!
Great experience as always!
Fantastic service, and amazing flavor combinations. Some of the dishes did feel just slightly overpriced but with the whole dining experience considered everything was perfect.
This is (was?) one of my favorite places in Austin. I think it’s being ruined by its own success.
When it’s very cold, they probably just shouldn’t have outdoor seating. We were inside, near one of the patio doors, and there was a blast of cold air every time a server went out there. My friend and I eventually put our coats on - not sure our server even noticed our discomfort.
The food overall was good, but they messed up my favorite dish. Served cacio e pepe cold, which is unappealing and not, ever, the way this dish is presented. I asked for a *warm* bowl of cacio e pepe and got - another cold bowl. I gave up at that point.
The wines we had were great, and I think the wait staff knows the kitchen is letting customers down.
I’ll be back, but never again on a Friday or Saturday.
This place can’t cope with its own success.
The Johnny Cakes were the most memorable of the dishes I had. Given the size of the plates, I would recommend going with 2 or more people or a big wallet and appetite so you can try more than a few things. Staff is is superb.
Emmer & Rye was recommended by friends who visit Austin often. This was not only the best meal we had in Austin, it’s the best we’ve had in recent memory. Every single dish was a knock out. We were lucky enough to sit at the kitchen bar so we could watch the brigade work. It was like a beautiful ballet: perfectly choreographed and they made it seem effortless. And I commented that I’ve never seen a cleaner commercial kitchen and I’ve seen hundreds. Don’t miss this spot if you’re near Austin.
Reading the menu in advance may not adequately describe how delicious everything is. From the listed menu items to the tasty tapas on the rolling carts, everything is bursting with complex flavors.
Fantastic service from Megan with food to match. We had French-themed Sunday brunch which was perfectly portioned.
Mediocre (at best) over priced food. Great service. ok ambience. Would not bother again....
Best place in Austin. Only one complaint you are a little stingy with wine pour by glass
Food was an excellent experience. Service was great.
Wonderful from start to finish. If you could give a 10 star review you’d get that.
The tasting menu for more or less was a miss. The dishes were not well executed with variability between each guest’s meal. Some came out warm or ice cold (even for the cold first course). Although our waitstaff was nice and provided good service, they would take each dish asking ‘wasn’t that dish incredible? I just love it.’ Odd statements to make when you can see we were pretty mixed about the meal.
Fantastic experience. Amazing food. Great service. Might be one of the best places I’ve ever eaten. A little pricey but that won’t prevent me from going there again. Loved it.
Probably the best meal we had in Austin during Winter Break. Food was well prepared and sauces/textures were on the mark. Service is friendly and low-key. I liked the dim sum cart idea but it needs some refinement. Overall a fantastic meal.
Wow! We were at E & R for the themed brunch—French, and wonderful. Small plates of gulf oysters were fresh and briny—made extra delicious with pickled shallots and Mignonette sauce. The tartare, however, was simply impeccable. Loved the larger plates too, but I’ll be remembering those small plates forever.
My wife and I are on the first stop of our honeymoon. Emmer & Rye was our first dinner stop on a 5 day Austin stop.
The drinks were fantastic. And this is coming from two people who don’t drink much. The Velvet Lechance was possibly the best drink I’ve ever had. The Round Midnight was excellent as well.
Nick was our server and he was excellent. Though it seems to be the normal among the staff, he knows the constantly changing menu down to every last detail. He gave us excellent recommendations and we enjoyed each and every one of them. He also spent 15 minutes at the end of the night helping guide us through a list of other places to dine while in Austin.
The overall experience was wonderful.
It’s hard to get a decent reservation unless you book well in advance. We didn’t get in until 9:45 PM. So book early!
Emmer and Rye is a fantastic date night place. The food was incredible and the service superb. Our server Jacqueline and the “dim sum” purveyors, Brandon and Chandler, were conscious about dietary restrictions and food allergies and described the dishes in a tantalizing way that made you want to order every dish on the menu. The Black Rose cocktail was the blend of mezcal and beet juice (among other things) that I didn’t realize I needed. Of the various dishes we ate, the roasted cauliflower and brined avocado with fresh sourdough were the standouts. I will definitely be recommending this spot to my local friends (I live in DC). 10/10 would recommend!
This place is a gem. The food offerings are diverse and tasty! Super friendly staff.
Our family of 5 loved everything we ordered! Had to ask for a repeat of the cacio e pepe because it was so good. Excellent restaurant!
Outstanding dining experience. Food was absolutely deliciously unique. Our waiter, Alex was so knowledgeable and guided us on our food selection and wine choice Staff is extremely attentive to food allergies and goes out of their way to accommodate everyone. What a special evening. Thank you.
The servers were wonderful. They even gave recommendations about where to go for barbecue. We had not planned to start with a dessert but they came around with a tray of delicious looking goodies and we chose a chocolate tart with pecans under the chocolate. I immediately wished that I had not told my husband I would share with him. It was incredible with very good chocolate and was not to sweet. For brunch, we decided on the Croque Madame which was a deconstructed version and not fried. The eggs were cooked perfectly with a runny yoke but the White was cooked. We had coffee which was delicious. No alcohol because we were babysitting our grandkids that afternoon.
Loved the staff and pretty much everything a out this place!!
The Daikon Radish dish was very salty. The bread and butter was $8.00 - The Dim Sum was pretty good.
This restaurant has unique flavors and ingredients that always come together to make me happy. It's also a fun experience because they have carts come to the table with little bites, a bit like having dim sum in addition to the main entrees. The service has always been top notch.
Pasta was supposed to be a warm plate but was served cold. Pasta was gummy not al dente. Food flavor combinations were not appetizing.
Absolutely amazing menu and our waiter was one of the most wonderful, informative and attentive people I’ve ever had the pleasure of dining with. Thank you. A
Highly recommend. Great cooking, service, place. Will definitely return.
Loved Emmer and Rye, amazing food and impeccable service. Will definitely be coming back the next time I’m in Austin.
Great meal with a wide range of options. Very good drinks and shareable plates.
I think our servers name was Hilary, she was lovely. Knew everything about the menu and explained it great, was fun to talk to and seems like a great, fun person. Food was killer, not a single thing I didn’t like. Very unique dining experience and unique food. I’m coming back very soon!
Good quality food and unique creations. Our server was fantastic and made excellent suggestions (at our request) of what courses to put together for a fabulous meal along with drink pairings.
The new French Bistro weekend menu was not to our liking. Too much bread, not enough substance. Flavors were average.
Excellent service and really unique and delicious dishes
Our waiter Alexandre L was so knowledgeable and passionate about the food and wine and stands behind the whole concept of this restaurant. It was hard to decide which was better the meal or the service!
Super creative food, unique flavors, weird but in a good way. Loved the dim sum cart concept. Made the meal fun and interactive. Great service and a happening spot.
Loved our experience--everyone who served us was very friendly and thoughtful and respectful and personal. The food and drinks were just phenomenal from start to finish, and were priced well too. Could not recommend this spot more strongly, especially for a special occasion.
