Great atmosphere and service. So many choices on the menu that I would go back and try.
El Agave always puts on a solid performance and is a family favorite whenever we visit San Diego. The moles are delicious and my daughter loved the carnitas tacos. I found the meat tasty but a little under seasoned. The staff are helpful, friendly, and very knowledgeable.
Went to lunch with a friend and picked El Agave because of its great menu, not the average "Mexican-American" food but more Mexican. Our waiter was very pleasant and attentive. The chips and salsas/bean dip were excellent and both our main courses were delicious. My steak was cooked perfectly. Will go back again when I can have one of their yummy margaritas!
Absolutely amazing! The chili relleno was recommended and was absolutely fantastic! Definitely worth the trip!
We had a lovely slow dinner with a group of 9, the food was excellent and well plated.
Even though we live over 30 miles away, we love dining at El Agave. Their food is top notch and consistent.
Food was delicious and service was excellent - we had the pork belly sliders, short rib poblano and three moles. Great atmosphere! Highly recommend!
We love this restaurant but I notice they tend to overcook the fish entrées and so they are dry. We have eaten here at least 20times.
Food was delicious.
Mole poblano very strong flavors not sweet at all. Agave rice was very good. Another favorite was surf and turf of Perfectly cooked Filet Mignon and Huge Shrimp. Risotto also good very cheesy. Poblano soup was good. Literally all the flavors of a Chile relleno in soup form. Quesadilla was very good too. Although more of an empanada than a quesadilla. Overall a great experience everyone enjoyed their food.
The duck burrito was very delicious and creative.
The atmosphere is quite nice, and the food was good, just not enough for the price. Expected to pay a bit more, which was fine if portions were of normal size, but instead they were very small. The entrees were well made and presentation appealing…just not enough.
The sea bass is by far my favorite dish. My boyfriend said the filet was like no
Other that’s her has ever had before. Delicious
The food was really bad from beginning to end the entire experience was like the had a cook who had no idea what they were doing playing around with high end ingredients and completely missing the make on all of them. The only thing worse than the food at this restaurant was the service. It was all truly awful and considering the fact that there are other restaurants nearby that in a similar style with food that is half the price and tastes a million times better. Plus they had better service overall I'd pass and not go back to this restaurant
Good and service were fine. We had the shrimp tacos and fish taco which were nondescript and somewhat lacking in flavor although cooked perfectly. Cadillac margaritas were very good although $14 price tag a little steep. The cucumber margarita was interesting with good flavors. Overall it was fine, but there are other restaurants nearby that overshadow El Agave.
The food, presentation, service and ambience is fantastic!
Service was great. The Filet Mignonette was excellent.
They offer an authentic Mexican food experience, away from the crowds of Old Town, with good parking and quick access to the freeway .
Birthday dinner and it was lovely!
Portions are large but food is great and tequila and mezcal options are endless.
Every aspect of the experience was amazing, from the seating, the meal, to the atmosphere. I must also speak quite highly of the waitstaff. They were attentive and mindful of when to step in and hold back.
To put it mildly, we were Wowed!!! This place is probably the best Gem of San Diego, I kid you not. We had the most delicious ceviche we've ever had and some of the best tequila and mescal flights you can get. The service was exceptional and staff are some of the most friendly and personable people we've enjoyed.
Excellent Sea Bass with incredible sauce! Would go back!
Always love this place. Best octopus in town! Our server was very knowledgeable and friendly. Highly recommend
We had the Seared octopus appetizer and it was fabulous. The Mole poblano (chicken) is our favorite dish there! Margaritas (Cadillac) are delicious.
true Mexican food of the highest quality. My fish was perfectly cooked.
Celebrated a birthday and had a great dinner. Service was spot on, the drinks great and everyone loved their dinner
Very good experience. Ordered two appetizers and the mole chicken. Mole was very complex and plentiful. Shrimp appetizer was full of shrimp. Plenty for 2. Great salsas and chips. Margaritas were large as well as tasty. We’ve eaten here twice snd will be back.
Food portion sizes were generous but bland. Lots of tequila choices but popular choices missing. Wait staff was busy was accommodating. Drinks were average at best.
The places food was super authentic and on point. Takes a while but totally worth it. The tacos are good quality as are the margaritas 🍹. I will definatly be going there again..thank you
Looks better than it actually is, menu is small and so are portions. Definitely not worth the prices. Drinks were good
The food wasn’t great. Mediocre at best. The mole was too sweet and the rice was bland. Server was great and everyone was friendly. May come back for a drink but I wouldn’t get dinner.
Not your everyday tacos with rice and beans. Truly unique and regionally-authentic dishes.
Amazing dining experience all-around. Our server, Gerard, was absolutely wonderful - very attentive without being overbearing, knew the menu and tequilas and made perfect recommendations. I had the Don Jose mole over pork and it was hands-down one of the best dishes I've had for a very long time (and I live in San Diego County so I've had my share of Mexican food). We had the Extra Añejo flight, passionfruit/guava margaritas and a Monterrey craft beer. - all very good. Oh, and flan made with a touch of goat's milk for desert. Intimate ambiance and excellent staff. Highly recommend!
El Agave is always at the top of my list of places to eat when I am in San Diego. The food is first rate and not tourist fare, and with over 2000 different types of tequila, the drinks are the best in town!
Oh my! The food was outstanding. Fresh and simply delicious
Loved the food. Loved the waiter and loved the tequila. Perfect night.
I took my family here when we vacationed in San Diego. The food was wonderful, high-end Mexican, and the service was excellent. The dining area is small and intimate, but not too loud. Tequila bottles decorate the walls. The variety of salsas and mole sauces was particularly memorable. This would be a great place for a date or a special occasion.
The food is delicious and a good a mount for the price, its located in Old Town, SD. I had two drinks that were just okay. The service was great. Very beautiful restaurant.
I honestly didn’t like the location it was hard to find parking .We ate our food
Great food, great service and the selection of Tequila's was excellent.
