    Incredible lunch with outstanding recommendations! Came here for my son’s 17th birthday since it was recommended by a local (we are from Dallas). Loved everything! Get the Queso Fundido!!!

    It’s unclear what space you are booking if you book patio or terrace. Standard wasn’t an option so booked patio & it was quite bright & warm (it was in the sun) where we were seated. Long stretches w/o a waiter showing up & really disappointed we didn’t do more than one drink pp:( As always, food was tasty.

    As local San Diegans we have been to the Old Town area many times, but somehow missed this gem of a restaurant, perhaps because it is upstairs and a little off from the historic Old Town part of town. However, the food was noteworthy with unique offerings that were all so tasty. We ordered the El Agave Chile Rellano, which I will 100% be ordering again next time. The flavor combination was to die for. We also ordered the Short Rib Poblano, which was tender and fabulous flavor in the risotto.

    We sat outdoors towards the front of the building. Traffic noise along with loud customers and tight quarters made this unenjoyable. Chairs are very uncomfortable also. Service was ok but my meal was cold upon arrival and one person had to wait for her food. Margaritas for $20 with little tequila, so this was a let down. We have dined here for more than 20 years. The overall quality has been declining the past several years.

    I had my favorite dish, the Nopal Salad - fresh and crispy ingredients. After the salad I had the grilled "Pulpo" plate (octopus). It was also delicious. The octopus was cooked just right - not overcooked or charred. The only opportunity for improvement for El Agave is the parking situation. They have a small parking lot (about a dozen spaces). The rest of the spaces in the lot are reserved for a liquor store. Perhaps it's time for El Agave to grow into a new location. They no longer need to be in Old Town area - customers will follow them wherever they move to!

    Enjoyed a tequila tasting and delicious dinner. The staff were particularly friendly and knowledgeable about tequilas and introduced us to new favorites.

    This was one of the best meals I’ve had in San Diego. The poblano risotto and the chalupas. Wow!

    Always a favorite when we visit San Diego. This restaurant is the BEST gourmet Mexican and Mexican seafood is San Diego. I first discovered El Agave after my SDSU Graduation and was fortunate enough to celebrate here after commencement. Delicious delicious, you can go wrong get the crema de la poblano and the moles are amazing.
