Established in 1974
EFES is named after Efes or Ephesus, an historical city in Aegean Turkey. Ibrahim Akbas opened Efes restaurant in 1974. He trained and continue to work as a chef, which could go a long way in explaining the consistently high standard of delicious and authentic Turkish cuisine to be found in this restaurant. Many TV personalities can be spotted amongs the regular customers and the restaurant is also very popular with the local community, having a reputation for generous portions and very good value. This reputation does mean that at busy periods customers may find the restaurant crowded but space can always be found in the deceptively cavernous interior which reaches right through from the Great Titchfield Street to Foley Street.

Good local Turkish restaurant - have been many times over 30 years and it always delivers consistently. Nothing fancy but overall a good experience and good value. Music far too loud tonight was only negative.

We selected Efes for a geographically constrained Sunday lunch with a vegetarian in the party. On arrival we were underwhelmed by the ambiance. The few diners were clustered close to the front, but with the door ajar to attract customers this small area our table was cold and we asked to be moved to the cavernous but deserted interior. Sometime later some heaters were switched on and a free more diners arrived to improve the ambiance. Service was attentive but unsophisticated, and the food was tasty and served in satisfying portions. Our vegetarian was well catered for, especially from the starters menu. All in all we had no cause for complaint but the Sunday lunch experience at Efes was short of mind blowing. I suspect that a busy evening with the restaurant fully staffed to service is many tables and a full restaurant might have left a better impression of Efes .

Food and service fine, but music was so loud we could not hear each other speak. Also, a big party of diners on the table next to us were making so much noise.

And I mean the meat sweats in a nice way! I had the lamb cutlets - the portion was huge, the rice was delicious even on its own, the dish itself as a whole was plenty yummy. Wish I could finish the entire portion as it felt so sinful to waste. I had to give some to my friend who had a bigger appetite than me. Starters was great. The hummous was one the best hummous I have ever had. Their bread was nice and fresh. And my friend had a really nice Albanian Lamb liver although it was a tad over-cooked but she still polished off all of it. There was the obligatory belly dance - which felt 'cheesy' but nevertheless entertaining. All in all a good evening!

I went to Efes with a friend for dinner. We have been several times before and always found the restaurant to be consistent, and this time was no different. As there is a wide choice of main courses on the Opentable menu, at at £19.95 it represents very good value for money. The restaurant is pleasant and the service friendly, the only negative is that it can be a bity noisy sometimes. However its still worth going to.

Been going to Efez for around forty years. Had a bit of a hiccup after redecoration and food was less good. But this meal was up to the old standard. Enjoyable. Good service. Reasonable value for W1.

A restaurant that I went to quite regularly 20 years ago - the food hasn't changed - great Turkish food. However, they are clearly scrimping and saving on the staff these days - rubbish service - Not an attitudinal issue; just a combination of language problems and inexperience!

Being going to this restaurant for 25 years. Recently taken over and done up. Menu has changed a bit but fundamently the same. The food is very good and the service is very attentive. Belly dancing added to the Turkish experience. Great for couples and groups as it has large sieating areas. If you enjoy Greek or Turkish food I would highly recommend.
