The restaurant has a unique mission; to eat well and do good. Founded in 2007, the mission of EDWINS Leadership and Restaurant Institute is to instill leadership skills in formerly incarcerated men and women through an education in the culinary arts.
Our aim is to change the face of re-entry through food and hospitality.
Ordered the potato encrusted grouper. It was fabulous!!!!!! As was the lobster bisque..... Best lobster bisque in town by a long shot!!!
My husband ordered the venison. He said it was ok.
Love the service and the friendly staff members.
First time diners at this restaurant. Everything was awesome and we definitely will return in the future.
The food was very good. We ordered 3 different appetizers so we could taste that many! Our main courses were very good as well. The wait staff was very attentive. We ordered the table side bananas foster and were not disappointed!
Edwin’s is always a winner. Food is fabulous and the service is professional yet warm and friendly. Can’t go wrong with anything on the menu but I urge you to splurge on the presses duck. Menu says it’s for two but it easily fed four. Sensational!
The food was excellent and the service was fantastic. Absolutely everyone was very friendly. My new favorite restaurant!
First time visitors to Cleveland and our best restaurant experience was introduced to us by our Uber driver, Monique. She explained the background of Edwins which really sparked our interest in a visit. We made reservations for the next night and it didn't disappoint. Our server was very attentive and our food was delicious. It was an obvious local favorite as well as a pleasantly diverse mix of people. Looking forward to our next visit to Cleveland.
We enjoyed our evening at Edwins. The service was great , the food delicious and, and the atmosphere warm and cozy. It's great to find vegan food that is so good that even "meat eaters" would love it!
Service was most attentive I have experienced in a very long time. They anticipated every need and courses were timed perfectly. Dinner was good but dessert was OUTSTANDING! Best beignets I have had outside of New Orleans.
A terrific meal and a wonderful, memorable evening.
Best French food in the CLE area IMO. What a great treasure!
Excellent food, exceptional service, very expensive.
Second time at Edwin’s and will return for a third! Our waiter was exceptionally caring about meeting our needs and especially apologetic when there was a glitch in one of our courses Our salads were well presented and tasty, the soft goat cheese on the arugula a favorite. The shirred egg with mushrooms had a light flavor which allowed one to finish the course without tiring of the taste. The escargot was good but a bit less flavorful than the last time we visited. The rabbit was done to perfection with an exquisite Dijon sauce. The venison was served with interesting red cabbage and spaetzle sides, the plate was only warm when brought to the table so the the meat and sides cooled much quicker than I was able to eat it, a bit disappointing but still it did not prevent me from enjoying it! The beignets were light with a crunchy outside and soft in served with a wonderful caramel. The soufflé took much longer than expected to be prepared but as we were in no hurry, we enjoyed our coffee and it was worth the wait! To tide us over the wait, the chef sent out a sorbet to cleanse our palate and it was a thoughtful gesture not to mention very good with hints of cinnamon and nutmeg that added to the flavor. With a cocktail to start followed by four courses, we enjoyed a lovely evening over a period of 3 hours, we’re never rushed nor felt like we had to vacate our table even though they were quite busy. The leisurely time was appreciated and much more a European dining experience which we prefer.
Fantastic service. Above par. Food was good however i personally felt the execution could have been better.
Service was excellent. Our waitress was a student of the institute, very welcoming and constantly making sure we were taken care of. Water and bread kept coming. Food was very tasty. Atmosphere was warm and elegant. On the pricey end, but worthy experience because of the quality service and food.
Excellent food. Excellent service. Delighted visitors from NYC.
The name Edwins comes from Ed(ucation) Wins, a reference to its mission. Food is comparable to Chez Francois except the dress code is business casual, which we appreciated. The table-side preparations are fun. Staff are friendly. Valet service is available.
Treated my granddaughter’s to a dinner in France including Bananas Foster. First class experience!
Last minute New Year’s Eve decision. Really surprised we got a reservation. We always enjoy not only the food but the staff as well. All other restaurants we visit are compared to Edwins. Can’t wait to visit again!
One of the best New Years Eves I have ever had. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. The food was incredible in every way. The restaurant is very fancy. It was NYE so it was loud; I cannot attest to the volume the rest of the year.
Food and service were excellent. We can't wait to go back!
Edwin's is an oddity as a fine dining restaurant. While I would recommend trying it, I would also recommend first watching the documentary about it called Knife Skills. Doing this will prepare you for some of the struggles you may experience when dining due to the nature of their rehabilitation program and it's students. Overall, the food was very good and on-par with the better restaurants in the Cleveland area. A big plus for them is a well-curated wine list that is unusually affordable. The in-training nature of the service staff causes them challenges, but that's to be expected to some degree with what they are trying to do. It's a cozy space, and can be a rather noisy, especially with music that is a bit too loud. Go in with an open mind, but do go in.
This is the second time we’ve been to Edwins. The meal was fabulous and the service was very attentive. One of our party has severe dietary restrictions and the kitchen accommodated him very well.
Great service, great food. My son had the venison which I thought was out of this world. I also think this is the best cheese tray I've ever seen or tasted, including U.S. and France. The service was perfect. In the past, the servers have been a little too anxious to clear our plates. This night, even being a crowded NYE, the cadence of service was perfect. Thank you for another great experience.
Great all around. Great purpose, great food, greatservice. Seriously worth it for the fromage alone. That cheese cart was a sight for sore eyes.
Edwin's is unique r the quality of its French cuisine and its role in a successful mission to provide a way up for people with prison records. Our experience was uniquely nice in that we had asked for a quiet table to celebrate our 57th wedding anniversary and did get a quiet table, special attention by the staff, and an extra dessert tidbit accompanied by a plate on which was written "Happy Anniversary" in icing. Very special.
A transformative mission providing superb food and service: we love everything about this special place!
What a great place! The food was excellent; everything was prepared perfectly. The service was also fantastic. Highly recommended. Order Le Burger for an old-fashioned table-side performance.
Fabulous food and service. A real gem. The frog legs and salmon were great.
The food at Edwins ranks among the best French food outside of France. Always start with cheese, they have so many hard to get cheeses that will please all. Plenty of options for all diets (omnivore, pescatarian, vegetarian, vegan, etc.) Service is excellent and not overbearing at all. Great cocktails and an excellent wine list. Edwins is not stuffy pr pretentious at all. Jacket and tie not needed, but not out of place either. Noise level was moderate. Classic Stevie Wonder, Sly & the Family Stone, and similar music was playing on my most recent visit. I can't recommend Edwins highly enough. A must if you like classic French food.
A huge thanks for a fantastic family meal. It was a Christmas present to my kids and they loved every bite. My kids are grown. Little kids would not enjoy this spot at all. Edwins is elegant food in a casual upbeat setting. The music playlist was decidley joyous and eclectic- perfect for multi-generational folk. And of course - the service is the best in the world!!!!!
Extraordinary food and service! Always a very special dining experience. Perhaps more mellow music though?
Good ingredients skillfully prepared and properly presented. Wait staff are courteous and attentive.
We go there for special occasions.
The burger prepared table side was a hoot!
Great service and food
We sort of got off to a bad start, hope table messed up our reservation, but they honored it. My husband and I are personal chefs for 25 years, we came with another couple. I order the scallops, my friend order the salmon, and my husband and other friend ordered the grouper. Apparently my husband literally spit in out after the first bite he said it was fishy and had a weird taste to it. The other person who ordered it said it was fine. My husband did not want to make a fuss seeing it was Xmas eve. Service was outstanding all the people that worked there were amazing. I felt bad for him because he left hungry. So when he got home he made a pizza.
We will try your restaurant again, maybe he just got a bad piece of fish.
Excellent food and service. Very generous portions. We especially enjoyed the escargot and bananas foster!
We go to Edwins every Christmas Eve. It's a tradition that gets better every year. This was the first time we had to send back a steak that was not cooked enough, and even with that, it was an amazing experience. Such a beautiful restaurant with a great atmosphere, and the food, is amazing, the service is even better.
I lived in France for several years and found the menu to be pretty faithfully accurate on traditional dishes, and very well prepared. The servers are not classically trained in the menu, but if you read the mission statement you can understand why and I really don’t care about that anyway. What they lacked in experience was more than made up for by a very customer-focused engagement - we had a lot of nice interactions.
The wine list is outstanding - you can get some really nice deals here and the sommelier and owner and both really knowledgeable.
We had a great dining experience.
Edwins is quite possibly one of the best restaurants in Cleveland if not in Northeast Ohio! It is a phenomenal experience. you will not be disappointed.
This was my first visit and I was pleasantly surprised. I agree with most of the reviews that state that the service, ambience and food is great! The service was above and beyond in all aspects, from the reception, the wait staff (excellent service) and the valet. It seems that the restaurant's goal is making sure that the customer is completely satisfied with their experience. Will definitely come back!
