Roy Yamaguchi opens The Eating House 1849
at The Shops at Kukui'ula. Named after one of the first restaurants constructed in Hawai'i, by a Portuguese businessman named Peter Fernandez, Eating House pays homage to the popular casual eateries of the mid 19th century that incorporated a medley of flavors from the Island's growing and diverse communities.

Please call the restaurant to make reservations for parties of 5 or more. For parties of 5 or more we require credit card information to hold the reservation, and follow a 48 hour cancellation/no show policy; any cancellations withing 48 hours of your reservation date, or not showing up to a reservation will result in a charge of $20 per person. Significant changes in party size may also result in a charge of $20 per person.

    Mikey is AMAZING as always! He really took care of us. Ask for him! Jake is an amazing bartender who went out of his way to make us feel welcome! And, the VIEW!

    Food was excellent and all of the staff was very knowledgeable and described each dish. We just went with their tapas options and everything was delicious. Where we did have an issue was the dessert took an hour. Literally. The pineapple cake is supposed to take 20 minutes- no worry, but at 45 minutes they came out to apologize and bring another dessert. The one we ordered didn’t arrive until an hour after we ordered it. They apologized and gave it to us free, but the dessert was certainly not worth an hour and I would say it wasn’t even really worth 20 minutes. But we’d go again and just skip that dessert.

    Incredible evening with outstanding service, food and overall perfection. The butter fish bowl is fantastic with wonderful flavor. The pupu lemon grass garlic shrimp is addictive with unique sauce. Our server, Ashley, was attentive, friendly and professional with knowledge of the menu. It was nice that the manager, Apolinario, visited the table with a smile and was interested in our food preparation. My wife and enjoyed the evening at 1849 celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary.

    Service was great - Dante was excellent as our waiter along with the wait staff - Food was perfect - and we tried a few new things this trip. Table for 4 gave us a view of the sunset. Definitely will go back again.

    Staff was very helpful the moment we arrived. We had reservations and we definitely recommend reservations or else you’ll have a lovely experience at the bar if you find seating. We were sat and our awesome waiter Dante took good care of us. You must have the tuna tar tar. MUST. I would go back every time only for this. It melted in our mouths. Very flavorful. We ordered the short ribs and Cesar salad. Portions are large to share if you want to do that. Desert, pineapple upside down cake. Another must. The customer service and staff attentiveness is amazing. If you’re traveling, please stop and try this gem.
