   Slightly limited menu choices but so well prepared dishes that you don't mind. Excellent complimentary tastes along side your main dish truly bring out the flavors of the dish's star attraction. Very well done food.

   Food was perfect as it has always been at any of Roy’s establishments. Our server was excellent! Manager and food runners were excellent. Only suggestion would be that the hostesses were “grumpy” and the busser was way to hurried to move on. Overall a wonderful experience!

   We have eaten at the Eating House several times over the years. Our meal yesterday, Spicy Ramen, has become very mediocre in flavor. The menu needs an updating and newer more flavorful dishes. Baby back ribs, ramen and chicken are not specialty dishes. The restaurant had 60% vacant tables and we waited 30 minutes for a bowl of ramen. Roy’s was such a better restaurant!

   Excellent experience overall! The open floor layout and wide windows create a stress free, laid back vibe which still maintains an aura of excellence. The free sesame edamame is a great starter. For the main dish, I went with the raman. The pork was mouth wateringly tender. My only critique is that I would add some more kick to the dish. My wife went with the short rib which was excellent. Service was awesome! Would for sure come back

    Food was really fantastic. Service started off great. We ordered apps and cocktails, but then it seems like we were forgotten about. It was our last night in town and we were trying to go wild, but we lost steam after having bad service and decided to go somewhere else.

    Even though the restaurant is on lists of recommended restaurants for vegan - and I made a note on our reservation that I was vegan and did not eat avocado, there were hardly any options and what was offered was frankly boring, lacking in taste and poorly presented. When I raised this with the waiter. He basically said “too bad”. The only saving grace was that another staff person heard this and offered me some hot sauce and another sauce to make the super boring vegetables and rice have at least some flavor. My husband enjoyed his ahi - but, we would never have made the booking if we had realized that even the restaurant’s claim of being ok for a vegan was not really true.

    Best dinner on Kauai…pricey but well worth it…my husband had the ahi and said it was delicious. I had the butterfish. He tasted it and said it was even better than the ahi. Salads can be shared, and they will divide them for you. We shared the pineapple upside down cake and it too was memorable!

    Our past experiences for service was basic and somewhat disappointing. This visit was better. Food consistently tasty. We always order the same entree’s, Miso butterfish and Ramen. Yummy!

    We loved our time at 1849. The host gave us a beautiful table on the back side with a view to the sunset. The manager came and opened the shades as it was a rainy night, and we could see the beautiful view. The food was excellent, and also I think less pretentious than some of the restaurants on the island. We felt the pricing was entirely fair. Will definitely go there again. It would be great for every day, dining, a date, a special occasion, or a business meal. Ambience was casual but beautiful.

    First rate food, presentation, service and ambiance! We made reservations about 6 weeks ahead of time and were treated to a table by the open air window looking across the land to the ocean, and eventually a lovely sunset. A screen blocked the sun's glare but still allowed us to enjoy the view as we enjoyed an excellent sashimi appetizer, followed by melt in your mouth sautéed butterfish and veggies for me, and perfectly prepared blackened seared ahi with wasabi mashed potatoes for my wife. Dessert, something we usually avoid, was even better. The Apple Volcano tart, topped with vanilla ice cream was amazing, and the Fudge soufflé, with hot fudge inside topped with vanilla ice cream was the climax of a perfect evening! Thank you Chef Roy Yamaguchi and your amazing staff!

    Having been here many times in the past seven years, we always come for a special meal and a great sunset. The staff were friendly although our server was clearly working too many tables. The menu hasn’t changed since Covid and they got rid of their fried chicken, which was really well seasoned. The prices are in line for what you’d pay at a fine restaurant and the portions are generous. The issue this time was the flavor. Normally, the crispy brussel sprouts and cauliflower are a go-to appetizer however the dish was out of balance; there was too much white balsamic vinegar. The hapa burger meat tasted odd, with no hint of Portuguese sausage inside. It fell apart the moment I tried to eat it. The mess it created made it difficult to drink the wine I brought with me to celebrate. The spicy aioli was not spicy at all. The menu said onions three ways but I only saw grilled on the patty and fried along with French fries that aren’t mentioned on the menu. The gochuchang hot pot was ok, but no mention of the mushrooms that were included. My partner can’t eat mushrooms so that was a surprise. It’s still a good restaurant but not worthy of Roy’s affiliation based on the lack of innovation or even evolution of the menu. Perhaps they could update their menu post-Covid, offering some of the same dishes they offer on O’ahu, while giving their hard-working chefs in the kitchen something to be proud of. They seemed very disinterested; one was even texting in the kitchen while making dishes. The only reason I know is because we sat next to the huge plate glass windows and watched them make our dinner.

    We arrived super early for our reservation and waited at the bar where we ordered a round of drinks. The hostess came to find us when our table was ready. We ordered a few tapas and a dessert to share, and another round of drinks. Everything was very tasty and came out quickly. I am glad we ate here and would definitely recommend it!

    We couldn't be happier with our meal at Eating House 1849. The location is beautiful, with huge windows that open up to a gorgeous view. We ordered the ribs as an appetizer - very good, highly recommend. Then for entrees, my husband got the Blackened Ahi and I got the Rice Put with Drunken Gochujang Chicken. Both were generous portions, fresh and very flavorful. For dessert, not only did they provide a special birthday dessert of Chocolate Decadence Cake, we also ordered the Apple Volcano, and weren't sorry about it. The Apple Volcano is fantastic. Service was very attentive, professional and very friendly. We would definitely come back, best meal on the island this far.

    The prices reflect views and service - food was fine, not outstanding. We got the brussels to start (these were a good choice). For mains, my dining partner got the burger which he could only eat half of. I got the hot rice pot with chicken - chicken was a bit rubbery and flavors were unimpressive (they basically flavor it by pouring teriyaki sauce on top). Service was quite attentive, but based on mediocre food would not go back.

    The Eating House always does a great job! Food is tasty, portions more than adequate, table service friendly and efficient, and the view was beautiful. 1849 is always on our list of places to dine! The pot stickers were very tasty, crispy on the bottom. The short ribs really terrific, and the potatoes were a hit with me.

    Anniversary dinner which I had indicated in my reservation. We were led to a table next to the open kitchen. Unfortunately the table is under full neon light with little ambiance. Asked to switch tables. Service was okay, food was very good for one dish and so so for the other. Definitely had expected more.

    Typically our favorite restaurant on Kauai. We always have our first dinner on the island here the night we arrive, and then typically our last dinner before we head home. The food is always top notch, and the service fantastic. However, everything seemed just a bit less than on previous visits. My martini was less than half full, many favorites were no longer on the menu, the service while still good was a bit slower, just little things that added up from this visit only getting 4 starts vs 5.

    It was my husbands birthday. We ordered one cocktail each and shared a salad of tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, pine nuts and kale. It was very good. My husband ordered the ribeye and I had a ramen dish. The noodles were very nicely done and the broth was delicious. The ramen also had shrimp and pork in it. My ramen was excellent. The ribeye was a bit fatty but had great beefy taste. The service was attentive. All in all a wonderful dining experience.

    We have been eating here since they opened and were regular patrons of Roy’s other location in Kauai for many years before that. The food is excellent! Our favorites are the short ribs and of course their chocolate soufflé. The service has always been top notch and we will continue to go back. We would recommend that if you are going to be visiting Kauai, make sure to make a reservation for a great evening.
