Roy Yamaguchi opens The Eating House 1849
at The Shops at Kukui'ula. Named after one of the first restaurants constructed in Hawai'i, by a Portuguese businessman named Peter Fernandez, Eating House pays homage to the popular casual eateries of the mid 19th century that incorporated a medley of flavors from the Island's growing and diverse communities.

Please call the restaurant to make reservations for parties of 5 or more. For parties of 5 or more we require credit card information to hold the reservation, and follow a 48 hour cancellation/no show policy; any cancellations withing 48 hours of your reservation date, or not showing up to a reservation will result in a charge of $20 per person. Significant changes in party size may also result in a charge of $20 per person.

    Food service was very slow. The food was mostly tasty. The Caesar salad with the Hawaiian bread croutons were really good. The sizzling wagyu & potstickers were just ok. The Rib Eye steak was great!

    The best dinner I’ve had on Kauai two years in a row. Their Ahi is prepared like no one else. Perfectly done with delicious sauce and veggies. Roy’s ribs are a long time favorite. The appetizer portion may be enough for most folks as a main course. Chocolate molten dessert also phenomenal.

    Service and location were pretty good. Food was actually very good but overpriced for casual restaurant. At least that’s the feel and vibe I got. People were in shorts and t shirts. We were over dressed.

    We visited for our 25th anniversary. They made it incredibly special! Delicious food, too. I had the ramen bowl, hubs the burger and we shared flash fried Brussels and Cauliflower. Yum! Perfect balcony view. Wonderful, pristine service! And, of course, spectacular view.

    Roys never disappoints! I normally go for the butterfish, amazing, but I got the ramen this time and it was so good. I even had some left over for lunch and it was just as good on day 2. The wait staff was great and we got our table right away. Make reservations! I wish I had more money and time to try more items on the menu.

    Very average. The dishes were well prepared, but certainly not worth the prices - even factoring island prices. And the service was definitely sub-par. Having dined at many restaurants on the island over two weeks, this restaurant was the biggest disappointment.

    We enjoyed a fabulous meal starting with the delicious pot stickers and cocktails. Our entrees of hibachi salmon and Paella were amazing and the pineapple upside down cake was the perfect finisher to a fabulous meal! Thank you to Corey & staff for good service including a visit from the manager.
