Eating House 1849 - Kauai
at The Shops at Kukui"ula. Named after one of the first restaurants constructed in HawaI'I, by a Portuguese businessman named Peter Fernandez, Eating house plays homage to the popular casual eateries of the mid 19th century that incorporated a medley of flavors from the Island's growing and diverse communities.
Good and drink were fabulous. Restaurant and view are gorgeous. Service was meh. Not bad, just kind of flat. We’ll be back though!!
Best dining experience in Kauai thus far. Definitely would recommend! Great service and food quality was excellent!
One of our favorite dining experiences in Kaua’i. The kids meals were awesome & their donut dessert was amazing. My kids are still talking about how good they were. Will definitely eat there again next time we are in Kaua’i.
Great meal with family on vacation. Lively atmosphere but not too loud. Superb food at a good price. Returned a second time in the same vacation week!
We had the butterfish and ahi and both were fantastic. Two good choices to share. Service was outstanding and the second floor ambiance was enjoyable.
Our server was fantastic. We have two daughters with severe nut allergies and she was on top of it for everything they ordered making sure it was safe for them to eat.
We had a wonderful meal with an amazing view!
This is the one. If you’re looking for the best food in Poipu come here. Free valet right in front, creative dishes, experienced servers, no freezing air conditioning or too loud live music. We wish our reservation at Eating House 1849 had been our first night instead of our last or we would have tried to come every night! Bar seating too. Call if there aren’t online reservations available.
Food was outstanding and my server was excellent. Made my dining alone experience fantastic!
We like Eating House. This trip was not quite up to previous experiences at this place. It's hard to pinpoint. Different wait staff? Flavor just a bit off? Maybe we were just not as hungry as previous times. Anyway, it still remains one of our favorites until we give it another chance. One very positive comment...the front desk staff was very welcoming (Jamie particularly) and many wait staff greeted us along the walk to our table with a smile and an "Aloha.".
We loved our meal here and can’t wait to come back
Always amazing and super accommodating of food allergies or choices... you absolutely wont be disappointed in the staff the menu or your food!! Get the butter fish and the brussel sprouts they are the best!!!
The food was excellent and our server was extremely attentive. I had the ramen bowl which had a perfect mix of flavors and textures. The fried chicken was super tasty!
Great place to have an excellent dinner.
Great atmosphere, view and food. Would definitely go back. The whole shopping and restaurant area is very nice. We spent a lot of time there.
Excellent sunset dinner from drinks through dessert. Highly recommend when you are in the area. Everything we ordered was a sensory delight!
Food and service could not have been better. The only issue I had, and it was a rather irritating one, was we were bombarded with flies when the meal arrived as we were sitting up against the railing closest to the kitchen and the outside. We almost asked to be moved in the middle of our meal as it did not appear anyone else was struggling with what our problem was. Chose to just stay put and wave white napkins Of surrender for about 15 minutes to keep them away
Enjoyed the complimentary edamame at beginning of meal. Service was on par with my expectations - slightly slower than a typical restaurant, but friendly enough. Ordered the potstickers and cauliflower/Brussels sprouts for appetizers. Both were underwhelming to say the least. Tasted like the potstickers has a brick of meat in the interior, not pleasant and flavor tasted as if it may have come from a Pei Wei fast food joint. Short ribs for main course - very bland. Texture was great, but lacking salt - lots of it. The goat cheese mash was quite tasty and probably the high point of the entire meal. Disappointed with the experience.
It was absolutely delicious. The service and ambiance were wonderful.
Great view, excellent service and the best food we had on Kauai.
Amanda is the best waitress ever! We are locals and enjoy supporting the Eating House. The kids and adults always leave feeling satisfied and happy! Mahalo! We will be back!
Good service and great food like always
Busy. Super casual. Poor quality alcohol. Food was meh. Service was pretty bad. Would not recommend or consider ever returning.
Anniversary. Our server was very sweet, 1 of the 4 meals ordered was very good... others not the best we have had! The manager was awesome & took care of the situation!
This was my first time dining at Eating House 1849. The hostess was very friendly and showed us to a nice table by an open window. There was also a view into the kitchen. Jullynn was our fantastic waitress. She was attentive and enhanced our dining experience. The food was incredible.
Absolutely spectacular! Amazing service and INCREDIBLE food. The blackened ahi tuna was top 5 best meals I’ve ever had!
Roy's has always been hit or miss for us since the 1849 Eating house opened. Last time a hit in January, this time a miss. Reservation and seating were fine as desired and expected, as was the server and the busers. Kitchen was the miss. Appetizers weren't inexpensive and not the quality of Merriman's, La Spieza, or Tidepools. Cocktails were the standard expensive, but very light on the alcohol, seemed watered down, so skipped a second round. 2 of the entrees came out in very hot cast iron skillets which took the medium ordered salmon to well done before it hit the table, and the chicken order came out well done/dried out, lacking the nearly all of the advertised sauce. A third entry came (was a noodle bowl) with unidentifiable BB sized black charcoal bits (not edible). 4th entree was a rather dry Paella, but I made it thru without sending back. The Salmon and Chicken entrees were sent back for redo. Don't think the hot skillets are a great idea on a hot island unless people order well done. Re-do orders came out as order and advertised.. but had to be eaten quickly before the hit well done again! Insult to injury was the check, did not expect orders compted for being poorly prepared as it was $60 for the pair, we got charged twice for them (and server did not bring itemized bill with CC card, we had to ask), then asked to have bill corrected. Menu could use a refresh, we do enjoy the Original Roy's in Oahu, could bring a few menu items to this location, and if they want the "old time esthetics" of the cast iron skillets, bring them warm, not cooking temperature (for already cooked food!) Won't return for a while, as there are many good alternatives here on the South Shore/Koloa, and in Lihue.
We love coming for special occasions from birthdays, to anniversaries, to being breast cancer free!! Always get awesome service and we love that we get treated the same way as tourists would be! Natural Lee and staff was amazing! Thank you for treating us with REAL LOVE & ALOHA!!! Definitely one of our top places to dine here on Kaua’i!!!!
Wait staff was extremely rude, messed up food order and acted like it was our fault. Food was delivered 20 minutes later than other food and no really true apology offered. Usually everyone meal should arrive close to same time.
Food is very creative and most of them were good. Some dishes were however a bit salty for me. The cocktail was kind of meh. But overall is a good experience.
Must go try excellent food and service and great value for the price I would recommend everyone to go try
Great food. Great drinks. Beautiful views. Lovely service. Tad expensive
Eating House 1849 was an incredible experience. The servers were quick and attentive, the food was tasty, even accommodated some dietary restrictions. It was incredibly kid friendly, but would also make a great date night. We will definitely be back!
Great food and great service!
The wait staff were friendly and efficient. Noise level was fine at 5:30p. Detailed Seating area that i suggested for our anniversary was followed. Food excellent!
Great! We absolutely loved it!
We have eaten here several times before and the food was great. On this visit, the food was just average. We had the seared Ahi, poke, and calamari appetizer. The calamari was excellent. The ahi was seasoned with - what seemed like a Cajun dust... left the dish lacking from the more traditional “blackened” with pepper and perhaps sesame seed crust. The noodle bed seemed to clash with the ahi flavors leaving the pickled garnish the most flavorful part of the plate. Was ok, but not for “market price” of 44.00. The poke was ok. Poke could have had more flavor. Also had several bones in the poke and some very tough “stick” like garnish in the dish. Perhaps our expectation was high from previous experiences here and at the Roy’s restaurants. Certainly disappointing for the price tag and reputation.
The lettuce wasn’t chilled.I got a cold rib.The food didn’t stand out.The service was wonderful.
