I went here twice and it was great, really friendly service, good food & pleasant athmosphere! I’ll come back when I return to Kauai
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary there and the staff including our waiter Jake really made us feel welcome . I've always loved the macadamia crusted local fish and was not disappointed this time. Beautiful evening!!
While the food was excellent the thing that impressed me the most was the terrific staff. They really know how to treat guests and are knowledgeable about both the food offerings and the local community.
Duke's never disappoints, consistently excellent food and the perfect atmosphere for a fine meal in Hawaii.
Outstanding view which is what you’re paying for. The meal was very good, not excellent. The highly promoted/reviewed salad bar was decent, not great. (I eat a lot of raw food. I expected more selection on the raw ingredients. There were more cooked foods - potato salad, macaroni salad, Sweet rolls & breads - than raw vegetables.) Skant selection of vegetables for a salad bar. Unimpressive salad dressing selection, too. No vinaigrette. The menu selection was not outstanding in any way, meaning, same local fish with Duke’s signature slant on the preparation. All good but nothing genius. As for the hula pie, it was basically vanilla ice cream with macadamia nuts incorporated in it topped with a little fudge. If a generous serving is your primary focus than this is the dessert for you. The portion was grand, however, the taste was not. We didn’t eat much of it nor would order it again. Nonetheless, it was a solid, satisfying meal with very decent service. The view & company satisfied the most. Would I go again? Yes, however, I wouldn’t save myself all day for it. It was not a highlight but a nice time. It’s a special setting for a meal in that it’s ocean front & you can watch surfers & paddleboarders frolick in the ocean below while you dine. The food was very good, just not excellent. I wouldn’t rate it 5 Stars. I’d rate it 3.5. I write all this bc many of the reviews I read puffed this place up so high that the delivery fell a bit flat. Perhaps I’ve been too spoiled with excellent meals? My discretion is a bit discerning I suspect. That said, Duke’s leans slightly more towards an unhealthy menu than healthy, FYI. Duke’s obviously uses fresh ingredients, however, the fresh ingredients are all cooked, fried, deep fried, breaded and/or sautéed. Even the salad bar had more processed foods than whole foods. Not what I expected at a high class place in paradise.
We stayed at the Marriott Beach Club so I visited the bar at Dukes 3 times. I found my cocktails not to be consistently great. It depended on the bartender. The same went for service. The happy hour food was well priced. Taco Tuesday was well worth it! The crab cakes and coconut shrimp on another occasion were also delicious. I just wish the martinis were consistently up to par. Great Oceanside spot for a bite. Live music at happy hour.
The food was excellent especially the coconut shrimp. I would go back over & over just for that.
Of course the Hula pie was also great.
The food, service, and atmosphere were all top notch. If we ever get back to Kauai, Duke’s will be on the agenda.
Excellent service, accommodating and understanding, incredible views, attentive table service and well prepared food we have come to expect from Malibu and San Diego. Once again only the great staff with smiles outshine the diverse and delicious food. With historic surfing memories honoring the legends on the water. There is much to see at Dukes in Kauai.
Great experience in an iconic location. Food was great and the service was friendly and attentive. Loved it!!
Ambiance was good and our sever was great with friendly attitude. But food was just okay.
We went to Duke's twice while in Kauai. Both times were around trips from and to the airport. They get very busy so I suggest making reservations. They have an upstairs restaurant that's open for dinner and a Barefoot Bar downstairs that's open for lunch and dinner. Both are very good. On our last visit three of us had the salad bar which is the best on the Island (also one of the only), one steak with fries instead of the potatoes (no problem for the change), one had chicken and two Ahi's. The Ahi's are always a favorite of ours and wasn't a disappointment. Our server Josh was friendly and efficient without being obtrusive. I would definitely go back on our next trip, not only for the convenience but also for the food.
Great food all the time. Always a wonderful meal at this location.
Server named Michael was great, friendly and knowledgeable in helping us with menu choices. Food was excellent.
The food was excellent, our server, Frank, was perfectly attentive and personable. The atmosphere was wonderful. I would highly recommend dining here!
Love Duke's. Every time we dine there we enjoy it. The service, food and ambiance is always top knot h.
Dukes was just what we remember, great food, fun atmosphere, Blaise, our waitress did an excellent job of providing us with our special requests. The signature salad bar didn’t disappoint, the Caesar Salad is delicious. We went two times and both times exceeded our expectations. Always a pleasure and memorable experience.
Food and service were excellent. I had the shrimp linguine and my husband had the steak and both were cooked to our liking.
We were extremely disappointed, we thought it was supposed to be one of the best on the island, far from it. Start with difficult parking (wasn’t aware of valet until we were leaving), very busy and noisy. The food was way over seasoned, the Ahi that I had had been killed twice, once by the fisherman and once by the chef. The seasonings and spices must have been put on with a paint roller, no subtlety and wasted a perfectly beautiful piece of tuna. My wife asked for her Ono grilled plain, and it came heavy in salt and pepper. Would not recommend.
Wonderful view and friendly staff
A perfect place to celebrate a special birthday!
Disappointing... Family loved Duke's on Maui so we tried this one; driving 25 minutes from Koloa. What a waste; food was mediocre at best. There's a salad bar with not the freshest stuff; like you're eating at a Marie Calendar's; and that's about the level of quality. The whole place seemed tired looking. Everyone including the kids walked away bummed.
Great food great view great service
Had a great birthday dinner for my husband at Dukes, complete with a hula pie! The location is beautiful, the food is delicious and the staff are wonderful. The calamari strips and drinks at the bar first were great too. I’d highly recommend Dukes in Kalapaki.
Excellent service, great food, beautiful view! They have a super salad bar, a nice drink menu and the fish is fresh! The views are superb and we had excellent service. We can't wait to return!
We ate at Dukes our first night on Kauai because we had heard it was great. It did not disappoint. We were seated out on the lanai and a very pleasant waiter greeted us immediately. The Dukes mai tai was a hit. Not too sweet and made with a great combination of local rum and ingredients. The salad bar was vast and if eating local seafood hadn't been my goal, I could have made a meal out of it. My opah was prepared perfectly and my husband's fish was perfect as well. We might have to make one more trip to Dukes during our short stay because it was that good. Highly recommended.
We had such a nice small family get together. live music downstairs was very good. Our waiter was so nice and funny. Food was very good.
Noah is an engaging waiter!
Fantastic seared ahi with mouth watering hula pie to finish!
From the the hostess to the server everyone was very nice.
Service was very slow. The atmosphere is very nice. The charge for the salad bar was $18 which was ridiculous. They advertised Duke’s salad bar as being so great but it was very small and very limited items for such a high price!!!
Great food and nice view of the beach and ocean.
Great restaurant right in front of the beach. Food was excellent most especially the hula pie dessert.
The waiter was very attentive and the food was spectacular!
We loved the atmosphere & service. Food was delish too. Going back our last day to enjoy again.
We greatly enjoyed our visit to Dukes! We reserved a table rather than wait for the "first come first served" barefoot bar section. Service was extraordinary, absolutely the best we've ever enjoyed!
One of our party ordered prime rib special that was not quite at the temperature ordered (medium) but that, and a limited wine list with extraordinary markups from store retail, were the only disappointment to an otherwise stellar evening. Their specialty cocktails absolutely rock!
We strongly recommend giving your server your preferences and letting them suggest your meal.
Location, location, location. Duke's has probably one of the best restaurant locations on the entire island of Kauai. Most high-end restaurants on Kauai are not ocean front / don't even have ocean views. Duke's sits right on the beach. Yes, the decor feels like Disneyland, but it is well done / doesn't look cheezy.
Service was attentive. Food was a mixed bag and just OK. Not terrible, but not memorable either.
Would I go back? For that view - you bet...
The valet area is congested and can be very challenging getting in and out.
We went to Duke’s in Oahu three days ago, amazing! The waitress was spot on and food was fantastic as well as hot!.....the place was packed!
Had a 5pm reservation at Dukes in Kauai.....
Worst service, food tough, cold and waitress was too busy with a table of 10 to concern herself with us, table of two. After refusing a box for my entire meal it was comp’d and we left very unhappy to say the least. $32 dollars for dry, cold, fish and dry cold ribs at on $17...never going back!
Go to dukes bar below the restaurant, NOT the restaurant. We went to dukes bar and ordered the dinner menu downstairs with some yummy cocktails. There was live music, amazing service with a great view. Two nights later we made reservations at the restaurant upstairs for our last hurray on the island and that was a huge mistake. We got a great table next to the rail but that’s where the nice stopped... After being seated it took our waitress 15+ mins to greet us, by that time we were ready to order. She took our drink order and dinner order at the same time. I was able to visit the salad bar twice before our drinks appeared. We were never offered another round the whole dinner. Our prime rib and steak came out hot but we were unable to eat them as we didn’t have any steak knifes and our waitress was no where to be found. We had to get up and walk over to a busser who was cleaning a table and ask for proper untensils. As soon as the knives appeared so did our waitress asked how everything was even though we had not taking one bite of our food yet. She said she would be back and never came back except to drop the check at the end. She clearly didn’t want us there. Wish we would of gone downstairs where the cocktail waitresses kept our drinks full and the food coming.
