Great steak and extensive wine list. Had a very good experience for my wife’s birthday.
Wonderful staff...excellent dinner.
Always my very favorite AUSTIN dining place and never better.
The food was not good at any price, much less the price tag they put on their food here. Very disappointed.
The service and food were outstanding. The maitre d was very unfriendly - gave us a table near what were going to be 2 large parties - I asked for a different table - he wanted to know what was wrong with the first table. I explained - he then tried to give us another awkwardly stationed table - I said why can’t we have one of the nice empty tables by the windows - away from noise, etc.. he said they needed to save those? For what? When I asked about the 4th or 5th time for a table that was in a quieter area - he had to confer with someone..! The place was almost empty. He was very rude in my opinion and a very poor representative for the hotel/restaurant.
Food was amazing and our server was great! Wonderful first dining experience
We had heard such great things and were so disappointed! The service was so awkward and not what fine dinning should be . The cocktails and atmosphere were great but the rest of the dinner came out cold and no flavor . Ordered the cheesecake for dessert and it was the size of a quarter. So odd!!!
With so many restaurant options in Austin, I was disappointed in the Driskill Grill overall. While we love the traditional quiet atmosphere and somewhat straight-forward menu, the room was awkwardly bright and so quiet that I was afraid the other tables were having to hear our entire conversation. The food and service were fine, but nothing to write home about. The "crabcakes" were described to be what they were, but they were underwhelming. Mussels, meh. Mac was great and entrees were fine, just uninspired. I appreciated the professionalism of the service, just not impressed as a whole.
Just another boring restaurant. I was expecting a classic, white tablecloth, great service, great food experience. Every single possible thing disappointed. Down to the fake Flowers.
Great venue for a bday celebration. We enjoyed it.
Surprised by the service (or lack thereof?) on Valentine’s Day 2019. I wouldn’t call it necessarily bad, just very inattentive. The restaurant was full but not particularly busy. The food was good, came as ordered, no issues. Our server just didn’t check-in, offer suggestions, or do anything but take our order really.
Guess that’s what you get with a built in service charge. I certainly wouldn’t have tipped the 20% that was built into the check based on the service received.
Dinner at the Driskill for our anniversary/ Valentine seemed like a great idea since we had dined there many times before and always enjoyed the experience. When we arrived we noticed an immediate difference in the ambience in that the classy white table cloths had been replaced by what appeared to be French bistro tables- a distinct clash with the rich wood in the room. We ordered filets- med. rare- that arrived so over-cooked that the server noticed it before we did. We sent it back and waited 20 mins. for the next one. By then we had finished an entire bottle of wine, all the side dishes were cold, and any sense of celebration had long evaporated. There were very few patrons dining when we arrived, so this was not a case of the kitchen being overwhelmed, it was a case of poor management and poor performance by the kitchen. We also found the menu not that creative, not that broad, and not that enticing. Overall, it was the worst. I would love to think the Driskill could be fixed, but I'm not sure I would risk the money again to find out. Anyway, I think you get my drift.
Coincidentally, we bumped into a lady the next day that was planning on dinner at the Driskill with her husband until she heard our story. You have now lost at least two tables with one bad experience.
We had the tasting menu and everything was delicious. The wine pairings were really good with it, too. Definitely a treat yourself type of place, but for a once a year thing totally worth it.
Finally, a good restaurant where you can hear yourself and your companion.
Really enjoyed a fine dinner and fine wine. The service was excellent. Brought back fond memories from long ago.
It was our first time dining. We loved the food and its farm-to-table prep. The service was great. Wine list was solid. The ambiance was like being in Washington (without the pretentiousness). We really enjoyed it all and will be back!
The steaks were FABULOUS, but the service and the ambiance were not in keeping with the prices being charged. I would have received better service and better side dishes at Outback Steakhouse and payed a fraction of what the evening cost.
It was the last night of our honeymoon and the staff at Driskill Grille went above and beyond to make it such a special night!! The food was absolutely delicious starting with the sourdough bread followed by the crab cake, steak, creamed spinach, risotto and chicken! Somehow we even from room for a chocolate cake. A must visit while in Austin!
Very enjoyable evening
It was a really nice place. Very quiet, food was pretty good. Was there on a Thursday night and almost has the restaurant to ourselves.
The AC was too cold and the Restaurant claimed the bar was too hot. Laughable for the amount of money we spent on dinner not to have a handle on your air conditioning and heating. My wife had to ask for a blanket from the hotel it was that cold. Everyone in the Restaurant had their coats and jackets on. We wont waste our money on this Restaurant again!
Beautiful hotel! Delicious farm to table food. Amazing service. An Austin local favorite.
Dinner was excellent and the dining room is very lovely. Our server Roy was excellent, very attentive and knowledgeable. The only comment I would have would be that our tenderloin was undercooked ( it was taken back to kitchen and brought back very quickly, temperature perfect). Thanks for a lovely Christmas
Dinner for us, very nice not to dine alone and have to prepare dinner .
We have in the past enjoyed the bar food, however Christmas dinner was a total disappointment. At $130/person we expected delicious food, not even close.
We went there for Christmas dinner. It was a fixed menu and had an ample amount of food. The first course was a Pumpkin Soup. It was a bit bland but it did start the meal off right. The second course we got was scallops and a Caesar Salad. Both were delicious. I enjoyed the scallops as they were wrapped with bacon. For the main course, it came with Beef Tenderloin, Scottish Salmon, deviled eggs, creamed spinach, potatoes, vegetables, and spaghetti squash. It was served family style and you could get more if you had room after the first offering. Finally there was desert. It had items from Bread Pudding to cheesecakes to tarts and many other things. Let's say that we left full and happy. A good place to eat on the holidays.
After several times of dining here for Christmas Day and Thanksgiving Day...this was a terrible disappointment. Doubt we will go back unless they get a new chef. And staff.
For what they charge, the food isn't much. We went for one of their fixed price holiday meals, but it had strangely questionable choices for food. A pumpkin soup with granola in it, a salad, then a filet and salmon served family style with creamed spinach and spaghetti squash for sides. The redeeming feature was the desert bar, which had a great selection (but the bread pudding was strangely bitter). Not worth $130 per person plus the service fees and included gratuity that comes with a hotel. To boot, we had a kid who was a vegetarian, and we were informed by the waiter that they didn't have a special kids' menu, but they sold the fixed price at a reduced children's price. So I paid $65 for my child to eat deserts and bread. When I walked out, I saw all the other families with children had been allowed to order off the bar menu, and they were eating pizza and sliders. What a waste of money. If you want to pay less and have good food, go to Eddie V's or the Roaring Fork, or really anywhere else but here.
Great ambience. Service was a tad slow, but very attentive. Food was excellent. Valet parking a bit pricy. 4 out of 5 stars.
Christmas brunch @ $130 per person was way overpriced. And a 20% automatic uplift for the tip for a party of four was a bit too much. The quality and assortment of the food was ok but we have had better for much less. The ambience is terrific and very traditionally Texan.
Drinks were good but Food was terrible and extremely over priced. Will not be going back for dinner
We loved the atmosphere and the food was incredible! Perfect portions with impeccable flavor!
The Grill at The Driskill offers a time gone by ambiance when people dressed for dinner and looked forward to a special meal “out”. Both of us ordered the French Onion Soup, which we found to be very satisfying. Our steak and lamb chops were cooked to perfection! The Brussel sprouts were tasty; though we prefer them roasted instead of pan-seared. Desserts - creme brûlée and hazelnut torte - were the perfect ending. Service was excellent. A very enjoyable evening.
Favorite Christmas season tradition. The bar was packed very loud but still fun. The restaurant was very nice and quiet. Highly recommend reservations.
Food quality and flavor is horrid to almost inedible for the high dollar prices on menu. Food portions are small for the high dollar prices. One can get a better meal and for a lot less money at a good diner or at Dennys. This place is hanging onto the coat tails of the beautiful and famous Driskill Hotel. It would never last if it was in a location by itsellf. Lots of fake 4 and 5 star ratings online more likely posted by employees, managers, or other people connected to the Driskill. Do Not Eat here or take friends to eat here unless you want to embarrass yourself, get ripped off, and leave hungry after spending $200 + dollars.
Everything was wonderful - we really enjoyed our Thanksgiving meal there!
WILL NEVER RETURN! EVER! Made reservations for Thanksgiving because it was advertised as $105 per person. However, we were charged a $40 "large party fee" (there were 2 of us). When I contacted them I was told that I should have read the "fine print " (where would I find this?). VERY deceptive! Turkey was dry, prime rib good, sides were ok, desserts were average. Was very busy, but service was exceptionally slow, so dinner dragged on. Was seated on a bench on seam of 2 cushions and was very uncomfortable. My husband faced the window looking over the overflowing trash bins. At least close the shutters! An additional $12 (without tip) for parking because there was no street parking. SO many other choices for dining - Why go there? NOPE!
Service and food was terrible! The wait staff was not professional and appeared they weren’t sure what they were doing. Busboy’s picked up coffee cup on table and split coffee on the table and said, “Sorry”. But never returned back to the table with a rag and the clean up the mess he made.
Also, we had to ask for everything and it wasn’t busy. Soup and food was either cold and over-heated in warming ovens. The dressing was so dry and hard, it required a knife to cut. A sharp steak knife in fact.
Highly over priced. $350 for two people! Charged $25 pp. and just to hold a reserve in advance. Where did those funds get applied to my ticket. Then get hit for $46 and for a service charge on the bill! Absolutely, ridiculous and for a dry over cooked dinner. In fact, we didn’t even eat the salad upon arrival to the table. It appeared to have zero salad dressing on it.
WE WILL NEVER RETURN! In fact, we have been going to “Capital Grill” for Thanksgiving giving for years and plan to return back there.
In addition, and regarding the desert buffet the waitress mentioned they had been cooking this items all week. We could tell, either they were dry or have no flavor. Lastly, and upon arrival at the desert bar, there was no utensil to serve the bread pudding. One of the hostess could find a true spoon or serving utensil so she gave up and handed me a coffee spoon and walked off!
It’s apparent, you shouldn’t be serving Thanksgiving dinner until to have sufficient and truly trained staff....
I will be placing there comments on yelp as well. As you can tell, we are extending unhappy with today’s experience!!!!
Food for Thanksgiving was terrible, very disappointing and over priced for $300 for 2 people.
Took a party of 6 including some distinguished out of town visitors. Had just a terrible experience. Very slow, inattentive service. I had the rack of lamb and it was served cold--my wife said the chicken dish was the worst she has ever had--dry and tough was her description. Sides were cold--the grits had actually congealed--and the spinach was not even room temp it seemed. We had a drink before and after dinner--we were there 3:15 according to the Valet--he added a $4.00 surcharge to the parking bill since we were there more than 3 hours--I guess they do not want folks to have that after dinner drink--really chintzy gouging after the size of the dinner bill I paid. We took these folks there to "show off" what we thought would be an elegant dining experience--we could not have been more wrong. The chocolate cake was extremely good--the rest of the food and the service were just poorly accomplished and then the insult of the surcharge at the valet...This will be our Last Meal at the Driskill Grill.
Great food and atmosphere!
Excellent food. Excellent service. Very romantic and colonial.
