Very good food and service. Stopped by based upon recommendation. A little bit overpriced, but overall nice experience on Main Street.
The place was pretty busy and our server did a great job. The food was what you would expect for the price. Nice atmosphere and great friendly service we would go back
Fantastic steaks and the truffle fries are amazing!! Our favorite restaurant, have been back 3 times since December.
Went w one of my sons before the graham Nash concert. We had such a great time. The dining experience was outstanding! Warm and friendly. The food was delicious. Thank you for a wonderful “ date” nite.
We had lovely table and outstanding service!! The menu is varied enough to satisfy all tastes and accommodate all dietary needs. Service was efficient yet distant and we had plenty of time to dine before the show we were going to.
Known for its steaks and well deserved. Their apps are good but heavy in the seafood, minimal non-seafood options. Seafood on menu is not as vast and would stay away from Salmon..Small portion and dry..A we bit pricey for cville (Dinner for 8 was 650.00). Fortunately we had 4 non-drinkers otherwise bill could have hit 800..
Excellent in total!
Best steak in Charlottesville
Always have had great dinners at the Downtown Grille. Must have been an off night, entrees came out lukewarm. It was busy, rainy and many people trying to get tables without reservations. Waiter was great , gave us recommendations for the discontinued wine list which was an excellent pick! We will return. One of our favorite restaurants in C'ville.
Reserved on OpenTable and we were seated at the BEST table in the house in the front corner! Our waiter, Jason, was very accommodating, knowledgeable, and friendly! Amazing service! We ordered the signature salad with a wonderful homemade fig vinaigrette dressing, wagyu steak with pan seared scallops and roasted asparagus, a side of sauteed spinach, and caramel vanilla crunch cake! Every single dish was PHENOMENAL! We will go back and highly recommend this restaurant!
An unfortunate UGH on Valentine's Day. This is a better restaurant than our experience that night since we have been there before. Our waiter was on top of it, but the kitchen did not respond. The GM took care of it in the end, and we will go back because we love the wine list and the food on any other night - and the GM's willingness to make it right.
Wine list is one of the best we have seen and is reasonably priced.
Overall everything was amazing but $65 dollars for a dozen of roses was ridiculous. That's the only negative thing I have to say. I'll definitely come back. 5 stars
First time. Easy access to restaurant. Food, service was incredible. Will definitely dine there again.
Excellent food. Truffle fries are a must. Can’t wait to go back.
This is one of our favorite restaurants in Charlottesville. We always hit the bar for dinner and drinks before any show we might attend on the downtown mall. And in the event of a special occasion...birthdays, anniversaries, anything that requires a celebration...this is where we go. The service is always impeccable and the food is incredible. This past Friday was no exception. It was my best friend’s birthday. She and her husband are true foodies and, oh my goodness, were they ever impressed. Looking forward to our next trip to Charlottesville and the Downtown Grille!
First time dining during restaurant week. Was a great experience. Service was excellent and the food was delicious. My husband had mahi mahi and I had filet. We shared veggies and mashed potatoes. And I had cheesecake for dessert. We will definitely be back.
Server was great, steaks were cooked perfectly, and overall the experience was pleasant.
Disappointing. Went there for Restaurant Week, and did not make us want to come back.
The noise level was higher because the restaurant was PACKED! We go there for the perfectly-grilled steaks, the seafood, the napery and linens, the sparklingly perfect glassware, and the friendly but classy waiters. The filet was magical! It is a gem to enjoy as often as one can.
The overall restaurant was wonderful and the service was great. The food while good and nicely prepared was lacking in seasoning and flavors. Portion was good but I would have liked something more favorable.
We have not been to Downtown Grille for a few years but tried it for Restaurant Week (they offered two courses instead of the usual three for $35 RW). The service was very good, nice to see servers/managers from the past. But it didn't seem as though they put their best foot forward. The caesar salad was pedestrian and the romaine lettuce bitter (I have the same problem at home). The second course, a 6 oz filet was very good, about 3/4 inch thick so not a usual filet mignon. Served with a vegetable medley that was warm not hot and frankly tasted like something my mother used to make us eat back in the 1970s. Mashed potatoes with no sauce pretty unsatisfying. On the up side, they offer several decent white wines starting at $6 a glass, which is other people's Happy Hour price. If you're going to get people back in for RW, perhaps put your best foot forward and up the food quality and more choice on sides.
Steak was great, shrimp and grits small (only 4 shrimp), burger was very dry (requested medium - seemed overcooked), vegetables all good. Service was excellent.
Great place for dinner with friends. Great food. Good wine. Excellent service. Pricey, but worth it.
Went for restaurant week. The filet was excellent, but the mashed potatoes served as a side were definitely instant potatoes. Also had steamed veggies as a side which I'm pretty sure were out of a microwave steam bag from Kroger. Have eaten here before and did not have this experience, but am definitely hesitant to go back now.
Wait staff and hostess very friendly and attentive. Meat was cooked as ordered. Vegetables very bland and the mashed potatoes were stiff and uninteresting (instant?). Wine list was good but overpriced.
Wonderful date night dinner. Excellent value thanks to restaurant week, can’t wait to come back!
Went for restaurant week.
Appetizers we had were calamari and salmon cakes. Salmon cakes were delicious but calamari were was kinda boring. Mains ordered were filet mignon with blue cheese butter and salmon with buerre blanc. Filet was outstanding!! Cooked perfectly and cut like butter. Salmon was served cold, but the person who ordered it didn't mention that until it was over half gone so we didn't bother to say anything. Dinner was served with family style mashed potatoes (yum) and vegetable medley (boring). Desserts were amazing--key lime pie and chocolate torte. Our server was pleasant and attentive. Overall felt the experience was average to good
They know how to deliver a perfect steak.
Our steaks were undercooked and when we sent them back, they came back in the same state as they were when they'd left the table. No offer to fix the situation was made. Biggest waste of $200 ever.
Dinner for Restaurant Week was uninspired. My husbands steak was tough. The vegetables were cold. Will not return.
Service and food are always consistently great! My go to local restaurant for a quality steak dinner. Perfectly seasoned and perfectly prepared. Good wine list that isn’t too overwhelming and hits on all price points.
On our most recent visit, it was during restaurant week. Noise level was a bit more elevated than normal, but still acceptable.
Looking forward in returning soon!
Another exceptional visit to the Downtown Grille for this year's Restaurant Week. Filet was perfectly cooked and the au povire was the final element that made the steak superb. Salmon cakes for appetizer - done well. Desserts were rich and decadent. Well-worth the price.
Outstanding fine food restaurant! Excellent drinks, appetizers, entrees and desserts. This is the place for fine dining. Do yourself a favor and visit.
Great place for dinner. If it is a special occasion, no place better in Charlottesville.
This is our favorite restaurant for drinks and apps before or after a movie/play downtown. A great selection and the bartender makes the best martini in town. Friendly and efficient staff. We like to sit in the bar area which is casual and fun, and serves the same great food as the more traditional dining area.
The Downtown Grille has maintained the great food and quality service we’ve come to enjoy in the ten years we’ve lived in Charlottesville. It is our favorite place to go to celebrate special occasions or to invite visiting friends and relatives. The place never disappoints.
Nice family dinner with everyone at the holiday. Only problems were wine service, which was cumbersome.
Each moment and interaction with the maitre'd, waitress, somalier and the manager was stellar. Our meals were superb and we felt taken care of, listened to and delighted to be at the Downtown Grill for Christmas Eve dinner.
Great spot for Christmas Eve dinner. There were lots of people; atmosphere was great and very lovely; food was delicious.
LOTS OF MISSTEPS HERE. PRETTY MUCH WITH EVERY COURSE SOMETHING WAS WRONG. ORDERED TONIC WATER, GOT SELTZER WATER. ASKED FOR EXTRA DRESSING, DIDN'T COME WITH IT. GOT THE WRONG STEAK. ONION STRINGS WEREN'T FRESH. THEY TOOK THINGS OFF THE CHECK AFTER WE TOLD THEM WE DIDN'T WANT DESSERT, BUT STILL. THIS WAS A $300+ BILL. WE WON'T GO BACK.
