Double Nickel Steak House
Skewered with filet mignon, green & red pepper, onion and drizzled with our red wine reduction sauce
I was really excited to try this place for our anniversary. I have herd it’s fantastic and worth the money.
Our food definitely wasn’t worth $50 per plate. Appetizer was not great at all. We probably won’t go back. $200 for a night out was a splurge for us and the food didn’t live up to the hype.
Always amazing!! Service and food were impeccable.
The Double Nickel is the epitome of perfection and consistency. We are regular customers that drive 2 hours from Midland, Texas to Lubbock for the sole reason to eat at the Double Nickel. The Manager is among the best in the business and the food is always spot on. We share our experience with friends and business associates back in Midland. An average of 2-3 folks a month take our advice and travel to Lubbock to eat at the Double Nickel.. We have yet to have someone come back with any complaints whatsoever. In fact, they too make it a regular visit on their list of restaurants each month from then on. This is a “bucket list” steak house, spoil yourself and make the trip to the Double Nickel.
Hands down this is our Favorite place to celebrate any occasion .. when I say we tell everybody. We tell EVERYBODY ! We celebrated 17yrs of marriage with one of our favorite couples to be around .... food was excellent as always no complaints there what so ever.
They never disappoint in that area ... our server was just little off that night and I get we all have Bad days. It just must have been one for him we sat and watched several customers who came in way after us get there stuff before us ... appetizers drinks pretty much everything ... even watched another table get up and complain ... again we understand the young man must have been having a bad evening. So we choose not to.... we will defiantly be back no doubt about it it’s still our #1 choice
I ordered a small ribeye. A filet was brought out. I offered to keep it instead of them having to cook another steak. Manager came over apologized. When I got my bill I was charged for a large filet. I thought I did them a favor in not wasting a steak. I consider that poor customer service.
Good steak but otherwise limited menu. Service could use some help. Cheaper than Las Brisas, but we prefer Las Brisas due to their better menu selection, comparable steaks, and better service.
While traveling through west Texas, my husband and I specifically looked for a steakhouse thinking that being in the heart of Texas cattle country we would find a delicious steak. The atmosphere was nice - consistent with what you would expect for classic Texas ranch style. The meat, however, came from Idaho which was a bit disappointing but would have been fine had it been good. My husband had a filet and I had a ribeye and we were VERy disappointed. My ribeye was one of the most chewy pieces of meat I have had in any restaurant, let alone a relatively expensive Texas steakhouse. My husband’s filet was ok but again not worth the money.
Double Nickel is definitely a special occasion place. There are other places with food, ambiance and service just as good, but the price alone sets it in a class of it's own.
Best steak house in Lubbock. Fantastic Service, Fantastic Food!
Lovely atmosphere, delicious food, excellent service!
The server was nice, but had to be reminded several times for drink reorders or missing items. The 2 of our 3 steaks were great. My daughters steak was slightly over cooked. The biggest let down we had was that my husbands steak was delivered to the wrong table so he sat through our entire meal without his food. He had to eat his whole meal after we were completely done. The manager did come over and discuss it with us and his offering was to comp the $3.75 beer my husband was drinking. While we didn’t expect the steak comped, maybe comping one of my $14 glasses of wine would have been a more meaningful gesture. I think for what we paid, the experience/service should have been much better than what we got. Not sure if we will return.
It took one and half hours to get our food after we ordered. We were not allowed to see the wine list due to Covid restrictions, totally ridiculous. We ordered a bottle of wine based on the server's recommendation. Terrible service throughout.
Steaks were juicy, tasty, tender and perfectly cooked. Could use some smaller cuts for ribeyes and strips.
Our waiter was awesome as all of the waiters are there and we had such a good meal with the filet kabob and the lobster bisque
May be back next Monday for date night
Great experience! Took the wife here for our 7th anniversary because we had always wanted to go. Very nice atmosphere and great food. It is pricey, but I felt it was worth it. Service was terrific too, and it was nice and quiet so we could enjoy our conversation.
We had a great Anniversary dinner at Double Nickel. The food was wonderful and Avery did a great job taking care of us. He’s a very knowledgeable waiter.
It was amazing that things have changed as they have due to the pandemic. The food and service were as they always have been. The starkness of the Restraunt was a shock but done well. I think they are dealing with all of this in the best way possible and the food quality has not suffered.
Had our date night/ anniversary here and the service was great and the food was amazing; it had so much flavor!
This is a must if your in lubbock and love steak and a great ambience! The staff is incredible and the food is amazing!!
Our experience was great as usual! We travel an hour and half to get there and it is well worth it!
Third time we’ve eaten here in 3 years. Always for our anniversary.
Outstanding every time!!!
Worth every penny!!!!
We had a wonderful time with great food and service! The steaks were delicious as well as the bacon-wrapped shrimp. The lemon drop martinis are to die for, so make sure you order one!
Took our grandson out to celebrate before he leaves for college next week. His first experience here! The food was amazing, the service above such a nice atmosphere. See you again soon!
It was great and we enjoyed it!
Great place to go for a special occasion. The food is great-The 20oz bone in ribeye is really good. The service was great as well.
Absolutely outstanding! We are foodies and blessed to be able to eat at the finest steakhouses in the country on a regular basis. The Double Nickel doesn't take a back seat to any of them from coast to coast. From the appetizer through the dessert, all items are created in the kitchen from scratch and are simply outstanding. The steak is equal to, or better than a Del Frisco's, Morton's, Pappas Bros., Kirbys or Bob's Chop House. That's a bold statement I know but, trust this review, Double Nickel competes, start to finish, with all of those. The cleanliness of the restaurant is over the top. There is no doubt that the owner has OCD because there are no spots on the dinnerware and the bathrooms are spotless and the entire staff is adhering to the new rules plus adding a few of their own. The Manager will make at least two visits to your table, first visit after you sit down and another as you are eating. He is genuinely concerned about the customers and wants everything to be perfect. The servers are spot on, knowledgeable about the wine and food selection and will leave you impressed every time. Finally, we are Midland residents and we drive to Lubbock at least every other week for the sole purpose of dining at the Double Nickel and go straight back to the house in Midland. The Double Nickel is a gem sitting right out in the middle of West Texas, don't let this one slip out of your bucket list of places to dine.
I would have preferred to have had more space between our table and the other guests. Food tasty; not a generous portion and not for a clientele with a modest budget.
Wonderful night, great food and excellent service
My wife and I celebrated our 20th anniversary at Double Nickel. The atmosphere, service and food was great.
Spot on food and service as always. Double Nickel never fails to deliver!
Was put in a side room that was very hot and didn't have the low light romantic feel of the main room. Sat us right next to the only other occupied table in the room, and it was so quiet that it was awkward to talk above a whisper. Waitress didn't know wine selections.
Just an overall bad and very pricey experience.
Very well-run and serviceable steakhouse in Lubbock. You're not going to have a bad experience here.
Great service, excellent food, nice atmosphere. A tad expensive, but you generally get what you pay for... Would definitely dine here again.
Service and food were great! Our waiter did an outstanding job.
Love Double Nick, great food, drinks, and service. Consistent and never disappoints. Can’t wait to go back.
Good social distancing plan. Andy was both personable and attentive.
We are long-time customers and have always loved Double Nickel. We had a nice waiter, but the service was extremely slow. The steaks that were ordered were not cooked consistently. The shrimp tasted old and had somewhat of a smell. The salmon and salads, however, were very good.
Our evening was fantastic starting with the service, the music and the meal! Our waiter was also very pleasant. We plan to return again soon.
The service was great and our server made sure we had everything we needed to the best of her ability.
There was no wine list due to Covid-19 restrictions the restaurant had in place, so the server gave us basically three recommended Cabernets. I would suggest putting the wine list on an iPAD or printing them like other fine steak houses are doing. Not having a wine list at an expensive steak house seems cheap to me and sets a tone for the rest of the meal if you are a wine enthusiast.
My wife ordered lobster bisque which appeared more like a lobster broth. There was no lobster meat chunks in this very small $9.00 cup.
I had the lobster tail which probably explains why there were no chunks in the bisque. They needed all they could muster for the little sliver of $50+ lobster tail I was given. The vegetables accompanying the lobster were broccoli and potatoes, good but I think a high end called restaurant could do better.
My wife and son had the filet mignon. My son's was cooked medium rare as ordered and he approved of the meal. My wife's steak was cooked medium and sent back with the explanation she ordered her steak medium rare. After the steak was returned it was cooked well and returned once again. Her final steak, which she ate alone, was good to her liking.
The manager was apologetic and gave us a free dessert, which by taste of the stale chocolate cake should be free anyway. Nothing to brag about chocolate cake slice which we did not finish. My son had the strawberry shortcake which looked like a better option. He stated it was really good.
Overall, I feel this steakhouse is over priced and certainly does not live up to the bar of most other steakhouses. I would say they are a better option than Texas Road House but a far cry from Capital Grill.
