Double Nickel Steak House
Ribeye Steak - 12 oz or 16 oz
Chopped Beef Steak
Our filet mignon ground fresh and cooked to perfection
Usually really good. Tonight sub-par all around. Long wait for drinks. Sent food back. Wrong order. I never write reviews. Disappointed...
8th year my girlfriend and I celebrated Valentines there. This year late due to the weather. It’s a tradition we both value. Awesome food, service and ambiance.
We drove in to Lubbock for a dinner date without children and had the worst service ever. We had reservations, but still had to wait 20 minutes to be seated in the bar, not even at a regular table. It took us 30 minutes to get our drinks and 45 min to order after I finally caught the waiter’s eye and motioned him over, or who knows how long it would have taken. Our food did not come out for 1 hr 20 min. There were no apologies for any of the delays throughout the entire night, by our waiter or a manager. Even though a man who appeared to be a manager did stand within 10 feet of us laughing with customers in the bar while we would have enjoyed another drink or some more bread. So to finish off the disappointing evening and because it was a special dinner, we each ordered dessert. The waiter proved how unengaged he was again by only bringing us one dessert. We ate it and were happy that the total fail of a nice dining experience was finally over. We had joked about getting up to leave when it took so long to get our drinks, I wish we had done it. The steaks were amazing, but way overpriced. The “creamed corn” was actually canned corn with a sweet starch gravy. The only thing besides the steak worth commenting on was the Spinach. It was delicious, but overpriced at $7.95 and false advertised by calling it Spinach Rockefeller, when it was just a well prepared fresh spinach. Overall, I wish we could have gotten reservations at our regular restaurant and not been so frustrated on what was supposed to be an enjoyable evening without children.
The upside, there was the sweetest off duty waitress from the restaurant, who came in to eat and sat at the bar. She saw that our drinks were sitting waiting to be delivered, so she was the one who brought them to us after 30 min, after only being there a few min. Then she checked on us throughout the evening because she could see that we were being forgotten. I hugged her and tipped her before we left.
My dinner was great, very busy Saturday night with no complaints. Service was slow but that's due to the volume of customers. Will be back again.
We had a reservation last night at 7 but took the waitress 20 min to greet us and to get water. We were told the hostess was sitting everyone that walked in. We were seated in the large room in the back. We were the second table sat and within 20 min they filled the room. Wait staff were overwhelmed. Clearly was a management misstep to seat walk ins when they didn’t have the staff.
While we are a couple that frequents all Lubbock dining options, we have not been to The Double Nickel but a few times. We ventured out for Valentines date night with bad weather and were so happy to have done so.
From our amazing server, great ambiance, and great food we could not have been happier.
We were thoroughly impressed and will be back soon!
I go to Double Nickel for very special occasions and last night it didn’t disappoint. I took my Valentine for a romantic dinner and the atmosphere was perfect. The food came out great and the presentation was superb. We felt cared for by the wait staff. Lisa West’s Double Nickel is the go to restaurant in Lubbock if you want an enjoyable high class meal.
I would have given 5 Stars but the steaks were tough. Great flavor, just didn’t appear to be choice Meat.
We had a wonderful meal on Valentines Day. Unfortunately many people cancelled their reservations due to the weather, but we had great service and the food was terrific as usual. We highly recommend Double Nickel.
It was good food, but maybe a bit over priced. But if you are in Lubbock and want a good steak.
It was wonderful!
Food was excellent and our waiter was very personable. It was a great time for a special occasion-wife’s birthday.
I ordered a Old Fashioned, twice, and both time the drink was filled to the top with water
the drink was watered down, an Old Fashioned should have very little to NO water added to the drink, maybe a splash, but even a splash is too much. but I have found that most "high end" restaurants DO NOT know how to make it correctly, however they sure are charging a premium price. I will keep on going to DN, however I will stick with the wine or tea, not mixed drinks
Amazing and beautiful place to eat! Not to mention fulfilling!
Excellent fine dining experience. Steaks were the best
Wonderful evening at your establishment our meals were prepared beautifully the ambiance and service were all very well done. Thank you
As always, friendly and excellent service and great food.
Great place for dates or business dinners.
Very relaxed environment and excellent food and service.
We traveled from out of town to celebrate our sons (who is a student at Tech) birthday. This restaurant was highly recommended. We were a party of 5. Two in our party ordered the Sea Bass and it was so fishy one order was sent back the other was left on the plate. The steaks were very good. The service was slow and several times we had to flag our waitress down to get drink refills. We were pretty disappointed and won’t be back.
Great service at the bar while I was in from out of town. Good, affordable wine selections that went great with my meal. Really good experience and food. I'll definitely be back.
Steak and sides were all delicious. You can rack up a nice bill fairly quickly once you add alcohol and extras but for special occasions it’s worth it. Service was excellent. Tables are not spaced very far apart so it can get a little loud but overall great experience.
Surprised at how busy they were. Ordered a steak and asked about the side salad, seeing only 3 on the menu (nothing about a dinner salad). The cost to add a salad to an entree was $4.95. I chose the Double Nickel salad which was on the menu at $8.95, mentioning I wanted the side salad with my entree. The waitress never mentioned there was a side salad for the reduced price, not the salad I had chosen. Though it was only an additional $4, I felt the waitress should have pointed it out. My partner’s rib eye was much thinner than expected for the 10 oz. advertised size. Overall, the food was good but certainly not worth the price, even for a special occasion. My reservation asked for special event, I put in 72nd birthday, and they never acknowledged the birthday til checkout when I inquired about anything for birthdays, then was offered a piece of cake. Why did I bother to put it on the reservation? Oh well...
Charming Old World ambiance in Lubbock, Texas – excellent. Cocktails were outstanding. Food was perfectly prepared. My wife asked for medium rare and her steak could not have been better. Wait staff were attentive but not obtrusive. Overall, a delightful dining experience. We will return.
Outastanding food and service, definitely a special night out place.
A positive improvement comment is that it would be a big improvement to serve fresh made salads rather than pre-order prepared salads, because my salad came with wilted lettuce. :-)
This was our second time coming here and again it was outstanding. The food is always cooked to perfection and the service was just amazing. I love the environment the staff doesn't hover and they give you your space and time to be alone. We will definitely revisit in the future.
Brittany was an amazing waitress and helped make our evening a little more special. We enjoyed everything from the amount of crab that was served in our crab cake to the bottle of Prisoner and the amazing Bananas Foster we ended the meal with. Perfect date night restaurant!
We enjoyed our anniversary dinner! Always nice to dine there .... the food is wonderful!
The food was amazing and our waiter, Trevor, was outstanding. He was tentative, polite, and very friendly.
Tried lamb for the first time, it was delicious Also, had ribeye. Food was full of flavor. Best part was there is no blaring music that you need to talk over. China, our waitress, did a wonderful job serving us. We had reservations, so there was no waiting. The service and atmosphere is worth the little extra you pay
Definitely will choose again over the crowd at Texas RH
Always a great dining experience ... We received amazing service by our waitress Marley ...
The food and wine were both exceptional! We enjoyed a lovely NYE dinner as a family!
New Year’s Eve
Double Nickel is one of our favorites. Our food was very good. The service was adequate bu
As usual the food is very good and the service was excellent! We were disappointed in the filets as they were not as tender as we have eaten elsewhere. Everything else was delicious. The sauteed mushrooms were especially good. Our waitress was exceptional and took very good care of us!
Still a good place to go but they struggled with timely service.
Amazing steak! Perfect date night. Thank you so much!
It was our Christmas work dinner. We enjoyed the food and the drinks.
