The truth is, you don't become a Louisiana favorite just by putting the word "authentic" on your sign. When you've served Cajun meals as long as we have, you learn the difference between real food and a bland imitation, and our guests know it too. Grilled, fried or on ice-there's time cooked into every dish and time spent on every home cooked recipe, so that every aroma, every bite, every sip and every gathering is memorable. We've spent more than 80 years creating a recipe for something much greater than a place for a lunch break or night out. It's a place to share (or keep the whole plate to yourself), a place where you always have a seat ready at the table and a place where you're always part of the family.

    We were given a rather private booth for our anniversary dinner. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive and the food was delicious. Definitely would recommend for date night.

    Lovely service from Lily and host team. The chicken and andouille gumbo was salty and the hush puppies were sweet. We expected savory puppies. Salad and in house made avocado ranch were good.

    This is my favorite restaurant in Lafayette. I ordered the Crabmeat au Gratin which is a dish I have had often and love. Very little crabmeat and thin and watery, really not cooked properly and skimped on ingredients. Guess they are cutting corners to deal with inflation. Very disappointing!

    The hushpuppies help make up for some misses, like way overcooked fried shrimp, which was a hardly better replacement for a strange seafood platter. The crawfish ettouffee had almost no crawfish in it. Shrimp tacos were great.

    It was Mother's Day so even with reservations we expected to wait. The lobby was full of people which was not a surprise. However, we were seated immediately, no wait at all. Our server was Reagan and she was outstanding. Even with all the tables she was responsible for, she had a smile on her face and gave us a lot of attention. The food was delivered quickly, was hot and fresh and tasted wonderful. Mother's Day can be a little frustrating at restaurants but this was not the case. It was a great experience. We are regulars at Don's and even do a lot of take out. It is always good but under the circumstances, we were more impressed than usual. Already planning our return.
