Diorio's Restaurant and Bar
Real Italian food, not "American" Italian food, carefully prepared and served. I'm a repeat customer.
Unfortunately, the evening started off with dry & unheated rolls being served. When I complained about the bread, all the server did was remove the bread basket permanently. I was expecting him replace our bread with some that had been warmed. A restaurant of the caliber they claim to be, should be serving an appetizing bread not stale rolls. Overall our food was fine but our service sketchy. Perhaps because it was a Monday night, the “B” might have been working. In any event, I don’t think it’s worth the price they’re charging, for the overall dining experience I endured. Loved the ambiance of the place!
Great spot for business lunch or dinners. Food is great.
Even if Waterbury had 20 more restaurants (not a bad idea), Diorio's would STILL be at the top of that longer list! While choices in Waterbury may be limited these days, you can never go wrong to "go back in time" to the comfortable, classic dining experience at Waterbury's still best dining experience at Diorio's! Excellent food offerings, all well prepared, well served, in an atmosphere that can bring you back to the "good old days". Super convenient municipal parking across the street.
Diorio's is a go-to for special occasions for us. We love the food and ambiance, and the service is always top-notch. The live music on Saturday evening was great during this birthday meal, and the dessert was fantastic as usual. Highly recommend!
We have been in the area for an open water swim meet the last 2 years. My daughter wanted to "carbo" load. We literally stumbled upon this place next to our hotel. Love the decor amd staff. The food hit the spot (as did my cocktail).
Another spectacular meal.
Service by Angela was spot on and attentive.
Everything was superb! From the food to the service to the ambiance. We had guests in from Canada and they were impressed with the entire experience.
I have been to this place many times and I NEVER had a bad meal and/or experience. I will continue going back as often as possible.
We waited over 2.5 hours to get our food. Other tables that came in after us got served first. The waitress came out after 2 hours to tell us that two entrees people in our party ordered were no longer available. We weren’t even offered apps to help curb our appetites. And when the entrees finally arrived, the beef was raw and some items were not on our plates. Horrible experience.
It was quite noisy when we first walked in, but once in a booth, the noise was not a problem. Service was great. The scallops with risotto was fantastic. My wife got some pasta that was a little more on the crunchy side than al dente, but the chicken parm on top of it was good.
Went for a college graduation.dinner. The main part of the restaurant is very cool , historical, we ate in a side room due to our large party. Not a neat!
Went for Mother’s Day where there were still reservations— can see why. Appetizers took 30+ minutes.. it was not busy. During that time we were not checked on. I ordered a lobster bisque which was more of a mushy crab meat/fish soup- misleading and a fish bone stuck in my teeth (???)Going on almost an hour are food finally came out. Flavorless and disappointing for how beautiful and historic the location is. My veal Diorio tasted funny I couldn’t finish it. I was correct as I became ill in the evening. How do you mess up Italian food in Waterbury? Especially for the time we waited. Very sad. Next time I will book earlier to one of the better establishments in the area. I usually don’t leave such reviews.. hoping this will give them the opportunity to improve.
Food was good, our server was good. Limited menu. Worst part was to be charged $3.50 for a soda 5 times.... Really? Little ridiculous in my mind. Should not be paying that for refill soda.
I have eaten at Diorio's infrequently for about 30 years. I have never had a bad meal until Friday night . I was used to seeing the place full of customers and I was surprised at how slow it was. The waitress was extremely friendly and attentive everything else sucked. We had calamari under cooked, we asked for it with Gorgonzola and hot peppers which they did but they covered it with grated Parmesan not good.
My entree was Clams and Linguine. The clams were nice but they sat on a tasteless bed of watery linguine. One of my daughters had the special steak dish , she asked for it medium rare, it came medium to well done on the edges. She wanted steak and when we ordered they said that was the last one so it would do no good to send it back. The broccoli on her plate looked like it was of the frozen variety and the mashed potatoes were flavorless paste. My other daughter ordered a pasta dish with marscapone and sausage again the sausage was flavorless. For dessert we had creme brulee the sugar on mine was beaded and burnt. I did not say anything at the time as my daughters were celebrating Mother's Day early. I will be telling anyone who can listen how awful it was and I have always loved it there.
Food and service both excellent!!! Have been and will continue to be a customer.
This was our first visit. Very good service combined with excellent food. It was a good evening. Leave room for desert, they all looked good!
We have been huge fans of Diorios from the first time we ate there several years ago. We find ourselves continually measuring all other dining experiences to what we receive every time we eat there. The food is exceptional, the ambiance and environment are perfect for a date night or celebration and the service has always been top notch.
The food and service were both wonderful. Beautiful building in a good location. We attended an event at the Palace theater and it was short walk. Great experience and we will be back!
Great ambience. Sit in a booth. Food was good, but $23for pasta and tomato sauce is a bit high. If you are going to the theater, allow two hours. Not exactly swift service.
It was a wonderful dining g experience The service was great, and, the food was absolutely outstanding. I had the scallop risotto, and, my husband had the linguini with white clam sauce. Both were high quality and done perfectly. The service was AMAZING and the ambiance was wonderful!!
Went here before a show at the palace, service was great. Loved the atmosphere and old school Italian dishes were awesome. The fruit infused vodka was to die for!
We had dinner here before seeing a show at the Palace Theater (7 minute walk). We were sat right away and had the fried mozzarella special as our appetizer, which was delicious. Our reservation was for 6:15 and our show started at 7:30, we didn't receive our entrees until right after 7 so we had to rush through dinner and didn't get a chance to fully enjoy our entrees.
We came to Diorio's for the first time before a show at the Palace Theater. Unfortunately our meal came out almost an hour after ordering it, and because we were on a time crunch we had only about 10 minutes to eat our meal, leaving no time for dessert. Our waitress was very gracious and apologetic, but the time issue seemed to be within the kitchen. We ordered a filet (which was fair but came with good potatoes and asparagus) and scallop risotto (which was quite bland). The bill with tip came to over $100, which was too expensive for the moderately sized portions. Overall we were disappointed with our visit to Diorio's; we are hopeful that as a restaurant so close to a major theater the kitchen will work on getting food to the table in a timely fashion. Waiting 30 minutes for a simple meal may be reasonable, but waiting nearly an hour is excessive.
Very disappointing. Made a reservation for more than 1 hour before we needed to be at the Palace Theatre. Service was incredibly slow and only concerned when it got close to tip tome. Over an hour to get our two entrees. When the food arrived we had 5 minutes to eat and run. Then the food looked like it was waiting for someone to come get it to bring it to us for a while. And it was just ok. For two entrees and one salad it was close to $100. Will never ever dine there again.
Food was bad and took forever to come out very bland and no taste
Our favorite place to spend on our anniversary. Will be returning soon!
A little pricy for me, but overall good.
Drinks fairly priced
Steak at $40.00 was high!
Dinner for 2 was above $150.00
Ugh.. worse food ever! Open table should not have them on their site. Banquet style food, awful taste, awful presentation, loud...
service was poor, staff never came to check in
Had to flag down for check
I always love open table suggestions but this 🤮🤮
Dinner and a show
Food was fabulous except the NY cheesecake needs some fruit or fruit drizzle for moisture, the chocolate drizzle doesn’t cut it. The brussel sprouts were wonderful!! Service was really taken care of by not only our waitress or two other waitresses as well and I feel they really pick up the slack for each other nicely where the customer is never affected by any other issues going on.
This restaurant provides quality dishes that are not available at most restaurants.
First-time diners here. Service was excellent, food was very good. To me, a little pricey for Waterbury, but a good experience. We'll visit again when we are in the area.
Loved the decor and atmosphere.......felt like we traveled back in time to a 1930's fabulous Italian eatery. Menu is limited & a bit pricey though. Would recommend restaurant as a special experience, nice & intimate booths in bar area for conversation.........our party of four had a great time.
We don’t get to go to Diorio as often anymore, since we’ve moved out of the dirty water, but it never disappoints. The food is simple N. Italian Fare, And is always executed with ruthless quality and attention to detail. Nothing hits the floor out of place.
Food and service was excellent! However, it was pricey.
We had a great dinner. Everything was delicious!
We will definitely be back again!
The setting is classic and nostalgic! The place is immaculate! The bar is a work of art.
