We believe in supporting our local artisans and staying connected to our Black Hills community. At a time when the area is growing and expanding, we are striving to keep the flavor of the region alive.
Inspired by the history of this area, both the aesthetics of the building and the diversity of the menu are true to our local roots, something no nation-wide franchise can duplicate. Certainly, there are other steakhouses out there, but none like ours.
From the first design to the actual construction, we have focused on creating a balance between upscale dining and a casual atmosphere-crafting a chic steakhouse where the kids are welcome too.
The rest is easy-buy the very best meat possible and prepare it correctly.

Prime Rib Dinner
Served Nightly. A classic! Our popular Prime rib served with whipped horseradish cream sauce
South Dakota's state fish, herb breaded and served with orange honey sauce
Crispy strips of Dakotah walleye, served with fresh made tartar sauce
We enjoyed our visit yesterday evening, and our adult kids were very impressed with the beautiful ambience and decor. They loved their meal as well did we. We definitely recommend Dakota Steakhouse to our family and friends.
We can't say enough about how great everything was from the service and our food. We definitely will be back. A very nice Steak House
It was better than expected. Perfect portion size. We were happy.
Amazing service. Food was ok, and they could do a world of good if they shut off the damn flood lights, and keep the fireplace and the ambient lights on!
Our meal was absolutely delicious. The salad was fresh and the steaks were done perfectly! Our waitress was attentive but didn't over due it. Sometimes they interrupt your conversations and she never did. She was funny and caring, just right. The dessert was wonderful, I love creame brulee!!!!
Excellent service, good food. No issues about anything.
Always amazing food and good service. Always recommend Dakotah for a good steak!
Great food… great service… great location… highly recommend!
Had a wonderful dinner and the service was great! Very enjoyable evening.
Food was good. Hubby had lamb; he didn’t like the glaze but said the lamb itself was cooked well and good. I had the braised& bbq bison. It was good but I didn’t care for the BBQ sauce. The bison was very tender, it pulled apart easily.
Prices were higher than I’d remembered ($30-40) for most entrees, some higher or lower. Wait staff was attentive but not overly so.
Overall a good experience!
Comfortable, eligant place to take friends for an excellant social evening with a well prepared meal.
The food was amazing!! Service was wonderful. Highly recommend
Great service from Kristie.
Steak was amazing. Shrimp was not hot. It was cold in the building.
Good like always.
First time visitors. We will return for special celebration.
Delicious food. Thought it would be more romantic in there, but a nice place for a special occasion.
Great service, wonderful food, will definitely go again!
Steak was ordered medium
It was rare at best. Both of our kids orders came out cold. Sides were like warm. Service was slow and she did the bare minimum.
A quiet evening of myself, my daughters & spouses, plus my 87 year old mom. Our first Christmas without my husband, their dad— since his death in September.
It was perfect—- except for missing him.
We eat here at Dakota Steakhouse all the time. We love the food, the people, the atmosphere and the selection. We would recommend it every time.
This was our first time eating there and for our anniversary. They sat us by the fireplace which was perfect and the food was amazing! The wide selection of wild game and dishes make it a place we can’t wait to try again!
Sat by the fireplace which was nice. Server was attentive but a bit slow. Dinner was fine but after-dinner coffee was not decaf as we requested.
We had chateaubriand for two. Was delicious. Steak melted in your mouth it was so tender. Their chocolate Bailey's cream dessert drink was the perfect ending to a great evening.
Poor service. Waitress forgot an appetizer and held our food until it came. They had our food under a heat lamp the whole time. Fish was mush and the “cuts like butter” steak was cold and tough and was not a $52 steak. Very disappointed!
The food and service is amazing! We will definitely be back.
The food was okay but a bit overpriced. The ambiance was a bit like Denny’s and did not seem to match the $50 steak.
Alix was great, attentive, friendly!
My favorite place to eat. Food is good and service is excellent
We were staying at a nearby hotel for a visit to the area, and were pleased to see that the Dakota was nearby. Made reservations for a Thursday evening. We were seated quickly. Our server (Alix) was excellent- efficient, knowledgeable and attentive. The food was also excellent - the buffalo bone entree and prime rib. Both recommended. Not inexpensive but prices probably in- line with similar steakhouses.
Food was amazing. Service from Christi was excellent. She was so nice. I recommend it highly.
This was a last-minute choice this year as our usual place was not serving Thanksgiving dinner. Dakotah Steak House as Rapid City's most exclusive (and high-end) steakhouse, and we've even dined there a time or two for anniversaries, had an outstanding meal, but (understandably) paid a premium for it as well. As it turned out, however, they came through for the Thanksgiving holiday with a wonderful plated traditional meal (which we wanted), superb and very attentive service, an an atmosphere evocative of some of the finest cabins and hunting lodges of the Black Hills. My only comment would be a very tiny one (both turkey and ham were a little dry), but having roasted up my own feasts in year's past, something as minor as this is hard to avoid for a big crowd. Overall, this was a very nice and memorable experience, and we are already making plans to put Dakotah Steak House at the top of our list for NEXT year's Thanksgiving dinner!
We planned a last minute trip to SD over Thanksgiving weekend and this was one of only two places with reservations available on short notice. We were pleased with everything! My son-in-law ordered the bison rib, my daughter the sockeye salmon, and I got the prime rib. They were all great as was the fry bread and the sides (my daughter loved the fried mac and cheese). We also shared the chocolate cake and the fry bread sundae, which were a huge hit with my 5 y.o. granddaughter. The staff was great, especially our waiter Cig, and the space was warm, inviting, and clean. We will definitely stop in again on our next visit.
Always great food. Our server, Marcus, was wonderful. Personable and attentive.
It was Wonderful, we will return!! Cozy atmosphere with amazing food!!
Very tasty lamb chops and mashed potatoes. The wedge salad is a favorite. The sage ice cream can’t be beat. Debra
We were impressed by the presentation of various cuts of beef steaks
The waitress was very nice and I asked for a recommendation for wine with my entree and the bar tender nailed it but we ordered a well done steak and it was medium. We sent it back and it came back seared and tough. It was still medium on one end of the steak. For the price you pay for the steaks, I thought they would be better
Filet Minon was amazing as well as the ribeye, perfectly cooked. Highly recommend the Buffalo scewer appetizers such great flavor!
Love the atmosphere. Walleye was excellent. Love this local restaurant
This is on our annual trip "to do list" when we head West to hunt in Wyoming. We have been enjoying this stop on our way through SD! Looking forward to it again next year!
