We believe in supporting our local artisans and staying connected to our Black Hills community. At a time when the area is growing and expanding, we are striving to keep the flavor of the region alive.
Inspired by the history of this area, both the aesthetics of the building and the diversity of the menu are true to our local roots, something no nation-wide franchise can duplicate. Certainly, there are other steakhouses out there, but none like ours.
From the first design to the actual construction, we have focused on creating a balance between upscale dining and a casual atmosphere-crafting a chic steakhouse where the kids are welcome too.
The rest is easy-buy the very best meat possible and prepare it correctly.

Prime Rib Dinner
Served Nightly. A classic! Our popular Prime rib served with whipped horseradish cream sauce
South Dakota's state fish, herb breaded and served with orange honey sauce
Crispy strips of Dakotah walleye, served with fresh made tartar sauce
My favorite place to eat. Food is good and service is excellent
We were staying at a nearby hotel for a visit to the area, and were pleased to see that the Dakota was nearby. Made reservations for a Thursday evening. We were seated quickly. Our server (Alix) was excellent- efficient, knowledgeable and attentive. The food was also excellent - the buffalo bone entree and prime rib. Both recommended. Not inexpensive but prices probably in- line with similar steakhouses.
Food was amazing. Service from Christi was excellent. She was so nice. I recommend it highly.
This was a last-minute choice this year as our usual place was not serving Thanksgiving dinner. Dakotah Steak House as Rapid City's most exclusive (and high-end) steakhouse, and we've even dined there a time or two for anniversaries, had an outstanding meal, but (understandably) paid a premium for it as well. As it turned out, however, they came through for the Thanksgiving holiday with a wonderful plated traditional meal (which we wanted), superb and very attentive service, an an atmosphere evocative of some of the finest cabins and hunting lodges of the Black Hills. My only comment would be a very tiny one (both turkey and ham were a little dry), but having roasted up my own feasts in year's past, something as minor as this is hard to avoid for a big crowd. Overall, this was a very nice and memorable experience, and we are already making plans to put Dakotah Steak House at the top of our list for NEXT year's Thanksgiving dinner!
We planned a last minute trip to SD over Thanksgiving weekend and this was one of only two places with reservations available on short notice. We were pleased with everything! My son-in-law ordered the bison rib, my daughter the sockeye salmon, and I got the prime rib. They were all great as was the fry bread and the sides (my daughter loved the fried mac and cheese). We also shared the chocolate cake and the fry bread sundae, which were a huge hit with my 5 y.o. granddaughter. The staff was great, especially our waiter Cig, and the space was warm, inviting, and clean. We will definitely stop in again on our next visit.
Always great food. Our server, Marcus, was wonderful. Personable and attentive.
It was Wonderful, we will return!! Cozy atmosphere with amazing food!!
Very tasty lamb chops and mashed potatoes. The wedge salad is a favorite. The sage ice cream can’t be beat. Debra
We were impressed by the presentation of various cuts of beef steaks
The waitress was very nice and I asked for a recommendation for wine with my entree and the bar tender nailed it but we ordered a well done steak and it was medium. We sent it back and it came back seared and tough. It was still medium on one end of the steak. For the price you pay for the steaks, I thought they would be better
Filet Minon was amazing as well as the ribeye, perfectly cooked. Highly recommend the Buffalo scewer appetizers such great flavor!
Love the atmosphere. Walleye was excellent. Love this local restaurant
This is on our annual trip "to do list" when we head West to hunt in Wyoming. We have been enjoying this stop on our way through SD! Looking forward to it again next year!
The entire meal was outstanding, Dakotah Steakhouse never disappoints!
Chateaubriand for 2 was amazing, cooked to perfection at medium rare and melted in my mouth!
Dakota Steakhouse has the best tasting and most tender steaks in Rapid City.
Business meal for 4 of us. Friendly fast service. Food was excellent.
I had two friends visiting from out of town and wanted to take them somewhere nice. This place fit the bill perfectly. The staff was friendly and attentive and the food was great!
I'm in Rapid City quite often and the Dakota Steakhouse is always a must visit. The food and the service has always been great! One of the best steaks I've ever had and the Buffalo filet is awesome.
Service and food is always excellent here. We had our anniversary dinner here and everything was so delish.
The food was excellent and our server Trever was fantastic. It was a great experience.
We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit, and plan to return often.
We did not like where we were, bar area. Service was Very Slow. My wife's prime rib was not cooked properly and her mashed potatoes were Cold.
Delicious Buffalo appetizer sticks with peanut sauce, loved the pheasant poppers, great steaks with mashed potatoes and bacon wrapped asparagus. The wedge salad with blue cheese, bacon and tomatoes is very tasty. Nice selection of craft beer and wine. The Dakotah Sangria was light and fruity. An overall excellent experience.
Wonderful as always
Beautiful building and great service, but food was just ok for the price.
We absolutely loved our server Alex who provided excellent service! The food was great and the ambiance is always enjoyable.
Just OK and not worth the money. Every time we come to Rapid we make a point of taking my parents to Dakotah. For years… this time was disappointing.
Food was good, ambiance was a little funky - Blake it on pandemic. The server was great, drinks were horrible, we were charged $12-13/ drink and thought they might be virgins. My wife’s cosmo’s were like straight cranberry juice…
Just left fir the first time feeling a bit disappointed and not worth the money
We were celebrating our 48th anniversary. The waiter was excellent the meal was excellent as usual.
Food was excellent, service was great. Both the soup of the day and the signature “three sisters” soups sounded good, but I went with the three sisters soup based off my server’s suggestion. It was amazing, thank you Justine! My bacon wrapped bison filet was perfectly medium rare, grilled carrots were delicious as well. If I ever find myself back in Rapid City, I will be back!
Great service, great atmosphere, and great food, especially the Prime Rib!
Excellent. Good food and drink. Excellent. Good food and drink. Excellent. Good food and drink. Excellent. Good food and drink. Excellent. Good food and drink.
We had the Chateaubriand for 2 and it was the best dinner we’ve ever had! Exceptional! We’ll be back!
Very good food. A little on the pricey side but somewhat expected. Service was really good. Server juggled many tables very well. The Creme Brûlée is a must!
Our steaks were great. Some of the best we have had recently. Our only issue was the waitress. She forgot and messed up our order. We wrote that off to her being new. If you are in the area, I would recommend this steakhouse.
Excellent food and service. The walleye was superb
Like many restaurants these days, Dakotah is experiencing a severe shortage of staff. You would not know it from the extra mile that Trevor, our server, and the rest of the staff went to make our entire experience amazing. We enjoyed the Chateaubriand for two and we both thought it was the best steak ever!
Found this place online and was a bit skeptical as I was taking my wife for her birthday dinner; however, turned out great. Everything was phenomenal! Especially enjoyed having Buffalo for the first time…it was excellent. Next time we’re anywhere near Rapid City, SD, we will make a point of returning!
They accommodated us earlier than our reservation of 4:30. Our waitress Brandi was very helpful with our sides and very courteous! It was pretty quiet and they limited reservations to maintain social distancing. The cowboy ribeye was enough for my wife and me. It was cooked according to our request. Very juicy as well. Highly recommend this and we are from out of town. Would go there again if we’re in the area!
Woderful food! Great service! Will definately be back.
Service was good and fast for such a nice place. Food was delicious. Highly recommend!!
