Between Curiosity and Closure: A Sunset, A High Tea, and the Quiet Romance of Being Seen To sit alone at Shai Salon in the Four Seasons Dubai is to be both participant and observer—drawn into an experience that’s far more than tea and confections. It is a meditation on memory, a quiet indulgence in curiosity, and, if you’re open to it, an invitation to reflect on how we feel when we are fully present—whether alone or with someone who knows how to listen without words. Romance, I’ve come to believe, isn’t a candlelit dinner or an anniversary marked on a calendar. It’s something more elemental. It’s the ability to say, “Did you feel that too?”—not about the event itself, but about the subtle sensation it stirs in you. A tart that tastes like a memory you didn’t know you missed. A fragrance of jasmine that makes you look up. A silence that becomes shared, not awkward. That is romance—the doubling of awe, the echo of emotion. But what happens when that echo never returns? When the moment stretches out and you find yourself alone in your astonishment? Is it still romance? Or has it crossed over into loneliness? Can you truly experience a flavor fully if there’s no one to witness your reaction? Who do we become when no one is watching us taste, react, feel? And is it possible that solitude, too, can be a kind of love story—between you and yourself, between what you’ve lost and what you’re still searching for? At Shai, these questions are not spoken, but they’re felt in the design of the experience. The tea menu, crafted by a pastry chef known for turning minimalism into elegance, offers more than flavors—it offers stories. A crisp bite of wild mushroom folded into something soft. Citrus balanced on the edge of spice. A mousse that tastes like restraint. Everything is designed to awaken your tastebuds—and I believe tastebuds are the soul’s longest memory. They recall not just flavors but feelings: the innocence of childhood, the intensity of heartbreak, the surprise of

Online communication with the restaurant is awful. They never read messages and never reply. Hence , any special requests won't be communicated. They weren't even aware that we booked a table. We were lucky the restaurant wasn't too busy and managed to get a table.

Really good food. Music is too louder and e-music sounds “out of context”. Service great and slowfood.
