We picked this place because of comments we had read online about this restaurant and were expecting music, and a livelier atmosphere and we were a bit disappointed by that. I ordered the Masitas de Puerco and the meat was a bit dry. My husband ordered the Gaucho and barely touched his plate. The white rice and black beans tasted really good, though. The appetizers were on point. While the overall experience was a 4, I doubt we'll make the drive into town to eat here again although we'd be more inclined to revisit for a drink or two and some appetizers if we were in the general area.More infoBuena Vista Cuban CafePrice: Moderate• Cuban• Washington Avenue Coalition / Memorial Park•4.4

- NNatalieVIPHouston •2 reviews5.0Dined on Jul 6, 2025I celebrated my birthday here this past weekend and it was all in all a great experience! The vibe was great, not uptight at all, but also not ratchet! I would say the crowd was 30+. I booked a table for 14, the food was excellent and the drinks were flowing! Rene is a one-of-a-kind bartender! Only one of my friend’s order was wrong. He ordered a medium rare steak, initially it came out well done, then with a cold red center the 2nd time. About half of the group ordered steaks, the rest were cooked as requested. I had the oxtail, truffle fries and a sushi roll, all fabulous and I’m a die hard foodie. They even gave 2 bottles of champagne on the house for my birthday! What an amazing surprise! The bottles were delivered with lights and signs and a shout out from the DJ! The speakeasy had great drinks too. We closed out our table, then mingled at the bar, danced a bit, moved to the speakeasy in the back, and then headed out when the crowd fizzled out around 12a. If the restaurant had a bigger crowd, we definitely would’ve ended the night there dancing. A+ experience overall and we look forward to our next outing at Mamajuana!More infoMamajuana Cafe HoustonPrice: Expensive• Latin American• Downtown•4.3
