Populairste Izakaya in Playa del Rey

It was the most authentic and delicious Yakitori/Japanese cuisine place I’ve visited in SoCal. They’re absolutely on par with the best Yakitori places in Tokyo, where I lived and worked for over 20 years. Their Yakitori skewers were expertly grilled, karaage fried to perfection, dashimaki tamago fluffy and full of flavor. Their attention to detail goes beyond the food. The plates they use, the food presentation, even the hot towel oshibori scented with a hinoki scent and the service of all their staff were such a delight. I live in San Diego but I will surely be back.

Hello, I’m not big on writing reviews partly because I normally talk about the experience but what a great first impression. Everything was delicious and the recommendations was both adventurous and still amazing. I’m for sure coming back for the unagi strawberry which you would think is not even supposed to work. But now I definitely have a new craving for. Everything was clean and welcoming. The lighting let me see what I was eating and the food came out quick but everything felt thoughtful and not rushed which was so nice since I came in super last minute. Shout out to my server who was accommodating and adding a nice touch with her notes on each dish.

All I can say is this local grilled yardbird joint is the absolute best I’ve experienced and that includes my hanging out in Tokyo, Osaka and Fukuoka plus Honolulu since childbirth!! All the skewers are professionally and expertly prepped and presented. Side and rice dishes are deliciously authentic and truly complement all the hard work and time put in by the back of the house. And service is always very Japanese!!

Formerly Wadamitsu. Now a sole owner. Food,service, & atmosphere still as wonderful as ever. Shared the fried oyster meal, tuna-hamachi-salmon (subbed salmon for 1/2 & 1/2 tuna-hamachi) bowl, tofu chicken jellyfish salad & yellowtail sashimi appetizer. The fish was generous & fresh. Will return soon.
