- MMaryNew York City •2 reviews4.0Dined on Apr 9, 2025My husband and I had an overall fantastic dining experience here to celebrate our anniversary. The food, ambiance, and service were all excellent - the only critique we had was the occasional noise level/rowdiness of children guests at the restaurant. Food: The cuisine at Codex was a fine dining take on classic Mexican dishes with exciting uses of traditional ingredients such as huitlacoche and huauzontle. We ordered the Tiradito, Huitlacoche enchilada, the steak, the soft shell crab, and the chocolate tamal for dessert. All the dishes were delicious and plated beautifully. Though definitely expensive by Mexican standards, we live in Los Angeles and weren't shocked by the prices as the meal felt comparable to or even better to many fine dining restaurants in LA. There is definitely a significant up charge being a hotel restaurant, and similar dining experiences such as Tintoque in Puerto Vallarta are cheaper. However, part of the cost also factors in the lovely view and ambiance... Service: Our waiter Martin was very attentive and made great menu suggestions. The restaurant also provided a complimentary dessert with a congratulatory note for our anniversary which was a nice touch. Ambiance: The restaurant is part of the Conrad resort, though tucked away hidden in trees as to feel separate. We could not hear people splashing in the pool or resort activity noises, and could believe we had left the resort entirely. We ate between 6pm-8pm, a perfect time to watch the sunset along the beach throughout our meal. Unfortunately being a hotel restaurant, there were families also dining at the restaurant with children running around and yelling the entire meal. I think as this is marketed as a fine dining experience the restaurant should not allow young children to enhance the experience for the majority of guests. Overall I would recommend if you aren't bothered by children disrupting the ambiance.More infoCodex at Conrad Punta de MitaPrice: Very Expensive• International• Punta de Mita•4.7
