The Chequers Inn is at the centre of the community in Lamberhurst and we warmly welcome everyone through our doors to enjoy the ambience of one of the oldest pubs in Kent. Believed to date back to the 17th century the Horse & Groom was originally used to house local farmer workers, with the increase in horse drawn traffic using the old Hastings Road the property was utilised to offer weary travellers a place to rest and stable their horse ready for their onward journey. It then, and has to this date, become known as the Horse and Groom . Free of tie, the pub now offers the traditional country pub fair, set in the glorious surroundings of Rushlake Green, with its picturesque village properties encircling the village green, centre of the villages attraction and host to many winter and summer events. The pub with it’s large private gardens offers a friendly and secure environment for families to enjoy beautiful views over the adjoining rolling Sussex countryside.
