We booked a table based on reviews on line and arrived early for drinks in the bar. The staff were really helpful letting us know when our table was ready and we have a really relaxing enjoyable meal. The bar staff also booked a cab for us as we had no wifi. We’d definitely go back.

Fantastic meal and top wine, great atmosphere and a lovely venue, great advert for the food scene in Melbourne, we were recommended the European before we travelled from England and it didn’t disappoint 10/10

My partner and I were in Switzerland at this time last year, and feeling nostalgic for the wonderful times we had there on our travels, we decided to come here for his birthday: what a fantastic decison that was. The restaurant is housed within the Swiss Club in Flinders Lane in Melbourne, and according to owner and chef, Mark, has existed in some form as a restaurant/bistro for over 40 years on site. And it was on point. The decor was reminiscent of some of those traditional Swiss restaurants without being gimmicky or ostentatious. Yes there were cow bells, but the decor was refined and tasteful. The food was absolutely wonderful, and we were transported straight back to some excellent dining experiences in Switzerland. The service was outstanding, and the waiters were attentive, knowledgable and helpful. The beers were German, served in steins, and the wine list was very good. Plus they had schanpps! And in a fabulous old world touch, chef Mark came out after service and went to every table and introduced himself: we loved this. Plus he was wearing the traditional tall chef's hat, a toque blanche! This restaurant deserves patronage, for anyone who wants some old world Swiss European charm with modern overtones, who yearns for some hearty European cuisine, and anyone who wants to celebrate and relive their Swiss experience in Melbourne. Congratulations Chef Mark on a wonderful venture, and good luck with Edelwyss.

Brilliant decor, building music and ambience. Outstanding service - thorough but sensitive. Food was absolutely superb - marinated peppers to start, and the iconic steak frites with peppercorn sauce and a side salad of butter lettuce and vinaigrette. Wine list by the class was also excellent and made choice hard. Local and international staples, well matched to the menu. Can't wait to go back and try some of the other dishes. For French bistro cuisine, the prices were very balanced.
