Best Comfort Food Restaurants in Palo Alto

My friend and I visited The Post on the weekend of the Los Altos Art and Wine Festival. Parking was very difficult but not impossible. We sat inside at a table usually reserved for large parties, but we asked if we could share the table if a large party came and they said yes. It was perfect for us. We were cool inside but close to the window so we could watch the passing festival attendees. The place was packed ad everyone seemed to be having a great time. Veuve Cliquot was much in evidence at the outdoor tables. We had the salmon toast which came with a delicious arugula and apple salad. Thank you, Post! We will be back.

disappointed in our order for chopped salad which was just a regular salad with onions cut too large and mozarella cheese. Rather tasteless compared to what it used to be. And way overpriced. Their chopped sald used to be so delicious. Not any more.

Go to Alhambra Irish House for delicious traditional Irish pub food. Everyone's meal was excellent. The waiter was attentive and made extra effort to support our handicapped guest. The ambiance is very fun. This place is a winner.

MacArthur Park is a quiet, somewhat forgotten gem in the heart of Palo Alto. Probably more popular in its prime, but still full of charm. Firstly, ignore the old reviews. Despite holding an event on a Friday evening, the dining room was peaceful and uncrowded. There was a summer breeze drifting in, which was perfect for a quiet evening night out. Our server was kind, ensuring we had a good time and even made sure we enjoyed every last drop of wine. We started with the onion strings, fried fresh, generously portioned, and only $10 for two. A basket of crusty bread with butter came out on the house, also solid. For mains, the half chicken ($28) was incredibly juicy, bright with zesty flavor, and served with beautifully charred vegetables. I typically never order poultry (almost always dry every-time), but I was glad I did. The prawn salad was also a highlight. The shrimp came skewered, hot off the grill, and full of fresh, smoky flavor. Altogether, dinner for two came out to just $80, a rare value in the center of venture capital-run Palo Alto, where most meals these days feel overpriced. No complaints. Just a quality meal in a lovely setting with an even more lovely fiancee. A solid 10/10. MacArthur Park is worth your time.
