It was a good little place. The food was alright except for the fact that they served moldy grapes and the lettuce in the salad was less than desirable. Maybe a bad time to try on account of the road construction and detours. Was expecting a better "wow" for the price.
My sister and I went for lunch which was delicious. We both had the Tomato/Basil soup with Grilled cheese sandwich. She had ice cream and I had the apricot crumb cake for dessert. Both were excellent. We will be going back.
Our second drive out to Forney specifically to visit Crumbzz and again the food was fantastic. Love the atmosphere and was happy the owner dropped by to explain the unusual coffee cups. Don't come if you're in a hurry; they're not. And it's fine!
I made reservations at 9:30 am. My husband and myself was the first one in the restaurant and only one with reservations. We sat on the patio. We ordered within 5 minutes of being there. An hour and 10 minutes later and still was not served our meal. Went inside to talk to the manager and noticed everyone inside was eating or finished. I told the manager we did not received our food and we were the first ones in the restaurant and he told us to come back when it wasn't busy. I told him we were here first and he just ignored us.
The food here is absolutely amazing, but be prepared for a long, leisurely meal! They are sometimes understaffed so it can take a while. But the food is worth the wait when you aren't in a rush!
This was our second time to try Crumbzz. Both times the service was slow. The food is made to order, which explains why it takes so long. The food is worth the wait.
My complaint is concerning drinks and attention. Both times we had to wait for coffee to be brewed, which equated to 15 mins of sitting without my drink. The place is small, yet refills take a while to get. Both visits we waited for coffee to be brewed for a refill. (Made me think they try and limit refills...but hopefully not.)
We go to Crumbzz for a date brunch, so spending time talking while we are waiting for food is nice. This is in comparison to noisy restaurants that rush you through your meal.
Crumbzz is a nice, relaxing place to visit. Just know you will wait for food, so table of 11 seated next to us... don't complain loudly the whole time! Also, please read the description of the food before you order it. It's not IHOP and you don't want to wait for your order, just to realize that your eggs are over easy on the sandwich. #eggsbenedict #jamaicanfrenchtoast #texaspecancoffee
The food was amazing! The service was very attentive and friendly. The owner came out and greeted us. It was a wonderful experience.
We have now been to Crumbzz 4 times and love this little bistro in the heart of downtown Forney. We are surprised it's here! Food is really good (even for those who are looking for a heart conscience diet) and the environment is great. The Sunday morning we went, it was very quiet (only 3 other tables) and the service was excellent.
Booked for Mother's Day, party of 5. Got a call the day prior. They asked if we would move outside. I said no. It was supposed to rain. Sure enough, it did.
Good: Food is excellent. Fresh orange juice and coffee is excellent. Prices are very good for the quality of food. We've been there before and will go again.
Bad: It took an hour to get our order from the time we placed the order. I had to ask multiple times for a coffee refill, which only came once. Service was terribly slow. The owner did stop by the table and apologized. I felt badly for him as he was short-staffed on a very busy Sunday.
Next time, I'll book a table for just us and not take others. I was embarrassed. My parents were not impressed after I had given Crumbzz glowing reviews.
I really adore this restaurant. The food is wonderful and the ingredients are second to none. The soufflés are perfect and the ultimate is their signature crumb cake. I love the little single-serving cakes you get to take home. And the owner and staff are terrific folks!
What a find in old downtown Forney! A small, unique bistro with a limited but unique menu. This is a wonderful place to meet friends for breakfast, brunch or lunch. The food was exceptional and the service was great. Leave the kids at home; they wouldn't appreciate it and they don't have a kids menu. The waffles were to die for; the pancakes were lovely also. The coffee and iced tea were exceptional. We had to get a slice of crumb cake to go to enjoy later and although a bit pricey, it was well worth it. We will definitely be back.
It's a treat for us to visit Crumbzz as we live in Plano and Forney is not "down the street"! That being said, it's worth the travel. It models itself as a European bistro: small, local art, open kitchen, and unique meals made with artisan ingredients. My husband had the french toast made with bananas, Jamaican rum and challah--I have no words for how delicious and tasty it was. I had the egg souffle with a small salad. The souffle was light and filling, tasty with a cheese sauce and oh so perfect!
The reason we really love Crumbzz is for its namesake family-recipe crumb cake--delicious enough to satisfy the pickiest New Yorker! The cake is dense, but light, and is topped with the most delicious crumb topping (they even offer an ice cream dessert topped with just the crumbs). We shared a slice of the plain, and brought home a whole cake, a raspberry cake, and a small chocolate one. By the way, these cakes may be ordered online!
We can't wait to return!
A truly delightful surprise Crumbzz , in the heart of downtown Forney, is amazing. A European Bistro, anchored by a skilled chef with an inventive menu, an attentive wait staff, alluring piano music floating, in the background and lighting that appears to be artistic as well as functional. Crumbzz may seem to be located in an old forgotten small town, but once inside, one is whisked away to never never land. Try it you will like it.
The ambience was low key and very "small town" bistro. Loved it. Pleasantly surprised to find a gem in the middle of downtown Forney. The owner stopped by to see how I liked my food... which I loved. Had the waffles with fruit and ham on the side. Very tasty. The cinnamon butter set it off (no syrup). Not your typical American fluffy waffles... these had substance. Awesome.
This was an Open Table recommendation and I couldn't be more pleased to have visited. The food was hand made to order as if it were being made at home by mom. Only the best ingredients and just delicious all around. It is the ideal mom-and-pop type of neighborhood find that you count your lucky stars when you find it. Highly recommended.
We enjoyed a late Mother's Day brunch at Crumbzz. It was my first visit there. The music playing in the background, art on the walls and decor were comfortable and soothing. Our waitress could have smiled a bit and that would have been nice, maybe she was having a bad day. (She kept our water glasses full though)
Drinks were served in a timely fashion although the food took a while to prepare. Don't mind that, if the food is fresh and tasty.
My $9 slice of quiche looked done on the outside and the crust was brown but when I cut into it is was so runny and NOT done. I choked it down (hoping my pregnant belly would hold it in) but really should have said something to our waitress. My mom's eggs Benedict over crab cakes was divine and my sister's egg and ham sandwich looked tasty too.
At the end of our visit we shared a slice of crumb cake... not what we expected. It was so sweet and dense. Guess we thought it would be lighter, like a coffee cake of sorts.
I hope to return with a friend one day, I will just be selective on what I order.
Overall it was a nice lunch. The menu had a wide variety to choose from so everyone in our party seemed pleased with their choice. The only complaints on the food was the New York chocolate soda. It could stand a big improvement and the onion soup was not up to par. Maybe the wine in it took away some of the Texas style onion soup.
I loved the food, and our server Chelsea was outstanding! It's really different from any other breakfast place we've been to, and in this case that's a really good thing! My only qualm is that the tables are very close together, but we also had a toddler with a high chair, do that could very well be why we felt this way. Other than space, it was amazing. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a new place to go for a nice breakfast.
Great little cafe - they take pride in making their food from scratch and creating a welcoming atmosphere.
We ordered the quiche, French onion soup, tomato basil soup, and Tuscan garden sandwich for Subday lunch and it was all delish. Of course, you can't pass up at least splitting a piece of the crumb cake, so save a little room!
Quaint little cafe with great food!!! Travel thru Forney and never knew this was there and now so glad I found it!!!!
Crumbzz is a foodie oasis in the suburb of Forney. Urban, artsy décor, and flambéed oatmeal. What's not to love?
Love the place but we waited an hour for our food to arrive after ordering. :(
Just go. Great architecture, great ambience, stellar food. It's like going through a wormhole and finding yourself in Greenwich Village.
We went for the first visit with my Mom on Mother's Day and really enjoyed ourselves. I prefer the smaller, privately-owned restaurants to the chains and found Crumbzz to be a nice find. Menu was interesting and we want to return to try some of the other dishes. Being from NY, we were intrigued by the crumbcake, which turned out to be delicious. Lots of crumb topping, which is of course what makes it! Although just a bit different from the topping we used to eat in NY bakeries (which included white, powdered sugar), it was well worth every penny! We will definately return, alhough I didn't realize how far Forney was. Oh, and it was nice to meet the owner-chef, Mr Sadler, who stopped by to chat with us. Thank you!
