Barely passable recommendation "to a friend." Service was sketchy and the waitress seemed like she was "putting in her time." She disappeared for long periods of time, and was not anywhere present in the dining area.
I was served a glass of wine where the glass reeked of dishwasher fluid. The waitress didn't notice. . . could not find her to change it out. . . finally flagged down a manager who wasn't terribly apologetic (although he changed to a new glass, and did come by later to see if it was OK).
He didn't seem surprised at the problem. . . and did not comp the glass.
Maybe I should change my "vote" to NOT RECOMMEND ????
My "waitress" was the hostess and she did a GREAT job. . .
What was VERY irritating was that ANOTHER WAITER (according to the hostess) took MY food for THEIR table. . . thus, I needed to wait another 20-plus minutes to eat. . . when I had a conference call. . . . So. . . I wolfed down my dinner-- when I had clearly should have had plenty of time to eat.
Good food, great service, comfortable decor, casual atmosphere. Popular with travelers and locals.
Nice menu selection, I had the Oriental salad and my partner the Beer-battered prawns. Both meals well prepared, fresh, crisp ingredients, and both large servings. Nice wine and beverage list to complement your meal. Server there when needed without hovering. Having eaten at C.R. Gibbs on several ocassions passing through town and always having consistently good to great food and service. Always worth the stop.
I made a reservation through open table but when we arrived, they didn't have us down. (party of 6 on Mother's Day). Fortunately, the hostess seated us right away even though the lobby was full of people waiting for a table. Good job to C.R. Gibbs hostess for fixing the mistake.
The restaurant was very crowded and noisy, the food was plentiful. The hostess was polite and attentive. I wish there would have been a little more structure, lines were long and very slow.
Have been there a number of times but not for brunch. I think I'll stick to dinner.
This was my first time rating at C.R.Gibbs and I didnt hate it. I ordered the green beans for an appetizer with the jalpeno ginger sauce and it was very tasty. I ordered the Cajun burger and for 16$ I expected to be wowed by this burger and I wasnt. I think I shoulda ordered the fish and chips. Overall not a bad experience but not a great one either.
I wanted some place nice for a 'girls night' out to celebrate birthdays for a friend and myself. I made my reservations online, which was very convenient. At that time I submitted a request for the $10 birthday gift card I haven't received yet. Maybe it will come BEFORE my birthday next year.
The atmosphere, seating, service and food experience at CR Gibbs has always been right on. However, it was so noisy this time, we could hardly hear each other's conversations. I feel like I missed a lot I was anticipating experiencing with my family and friends. Next time I will ask for a more intimate area to be seated, if possible. Also, the parking is always overlooked until I arrive and then I remember, it's not very good. My guest had to park far away - in the rain. The parking issue and coming to CR Gibbs next time might be a factor for consideration.
Overall, CR Gibbs is one of the nicer places to eat out in Redding.
We are prior patrons over 15 years, and have found CRG to be a good draw for business lunches, small intimate dinners, and also a good bar crowd. We have found the menu with good choices and mix for adults and children.
At our last dining experience, we found that the Poached Salmon order was undercooked in the middle and her vegetables were drowned in a sauce. Try poaching well and then drain off excess fluids. Place the fish on a bed of wild rice mix with a vegetable, (Preferably steamed asparagus) on the side of plate, ...not a bowl. This will be more presentable than seeing floating food. Thank you.
always enjoy the food ..the fried green beans & the scallops as appetizer are addicting ...stay away from the tuna appetizer ..it was extremely salty could not finsh even 1 bite & they did not take off bill. They eallu need to remove from menu! The pizzas are excellent too!
Our reservation time was graciously changed to work with changes in our travel schedule. Meg is a great server, and the rest of the staff were equally friendly and helpful. The Thai Curry calamari wasn't in curry and did not have any curry seasoning that we noted. The sweet chili cocktail sauce was light on the sweet chili. This is not a dish for someone looking for strong Thai flavoring. It was done well and did taste good; the lime dipping sauce was a nice change in condiment for fried calamari. The filet mignon and the asiago burger were cooked to order and tasty. The french fries were perfectly cooked. The wine list has good variety and reasonable prices, and isn't so large as to make a decision difficult. The room is very open with a high ceiling, so was noisy when we arrived. As people left, it naturally quieted down at the end of the night. The bench in our booth was well-used and could benefit from some new foam. In spite of these two last things, we had a wonderful meal and time. The location near a few hotels on Hilltop makes it a great place for people passing through Redding.
We stopped for lunch here, half-way through our six hour drive. It was a great place to stretch our legs. They have a good menu selection and are amenable to special requests. We had their cheeseburger and turkey panini. Both were good. We appreciated the friendly and attentive service.
We are here for lunch often but avoid the place on Sundays due to the church and brunch crowd. Service suffers on Sunday. Our dinner on this evening was less than steller. Our guests had a fish
and vegetable skewer that they really liked. My wife had a steak salad as she had done previously to her satisfaction but this time the steak was mostly gristle. I had the pecan encrusted halibut with an apricot sauce. The latter consisted of a little color only, maybe 1/4 of a teaspoon. The fish, having been frozen, was dry and hard. Having said this, we will still come back often. We love our lunch waitress, Valerie, who always helps us get the best selections and it's fun to see her.
Generally, I don't expect much from a restaurant in a Best Western hotel, but this was truly wonderful. The house Cabernet was terrific. The Asian salad was perfect, served like an upscale restaurant. The Fish tacos were gourmet. The food was fresh, hot, with a professional presentation. The server was trained like a pro. This was a completely unexpected treasure!
We always enjoy going to C. R. Gibbs. The food is always very good and usually the service is very good also. We ordered our dessert to go and were a little surprised when we were charged 50 cents for the to go box. It is not the price, but we had eaten our meal there and didn't take a doggie bag with left overs, so, why charge for a togo box just for our dessert. We will go back just think it is a weird practice.
The food was fine...no complaints there. The service was good esp. considering how busy they were. The sad part was that this reservation was for a special occasion date and the atmosphere was CRAZY loud....and not just from the number of people, but from the bar area, which we weren't even seated near. People were screaming and whooping it up to the point that neither of us could carry on any kind of conversation. We went at 6:30 on a Saturday evening so it's possible other nights would be quieter. I went here for my graduation dinner with my parents six years ago and I remember the environment being much nicer then.
