Student run and we have had good meals there before. Service was disorganized and inattentive. Manager? at the end told us the students were going back to class and we told her we could not leave until someone brought us the bill we were waiting for. Never got any drink refills over 1.5 hours. They kept forgetting.
Food was Mexican. The ceviche appetizer was nice but tiny and the big spoons were difficult to use in the tiny cups provided. The main dish we chose were 3 tacos but they totally fell apart and we had to eat the insides with a fork. Needed some acid like a lime wedge to spark the flavor. Rice pretty bland and over cooked and we left it. Dessert was a very pretty fresh fruit tart and tasted very good
Note the menus were given to us without explanation and after we made our decisions the waitress told us the alcohol shown was not available and the main dish we wanted was not available. Maybe they should have explained this upfront or changed the menus?
The atmosphere is great but I cancelled my reservation for the next meal and will wait until later in the semester to try them again and see if improved. So I would not recommend currently but it could change.
We truly enjoyed our experience at the Courses facility
So great supporting the culinary programs at IVY TECH!
Very good experience at this restaurant. We will go again.
Great view, wonderful food and very attentive service!
A perfect place for an intimate lunch or a group lunch where you want to talk to your neighbors. The student staff is excellent and since they have only a few tables there is a chance to talk to them. Three course lunch with tea or coffee is $16 with tax and I always add a great gratuity. Relaxing and delicious. I had the French onion soup, beef burgundy with a potato/parsnip mash and the coffee mousse dessert. Friend had the arugula salad with mushroom risotto with asparagus and the same dessert. Perfectly seasoned and beautifully plated.
Hospitality students in the front and back of the house! Amazing food. Glorious views! And where else can you get a three course dinner (appetizer, entree, and dessert) for $25.00! (Lunch is also three courses and costs $15.00.) Full bar and a nice range of beer and wine are available for lunch and dinner.
Though the times that this restaurant is open for business is limited by the class schedule for the community college culinary arts/hospitality program, it is 100% worth it. Stalk their Facebook page so that you can find menus and serving dates and times. The service and food is all college student based. The menus range from the classes studied: classical cuisine and international foods. They have a full bar and extremely reasonable bottles of wine. The view from the top of a building just 2 miles from the center of Indianapolis is amazing! $15 for lunch and $25 for dinner (three courses) is so inexpensive for linen table cloths, fresh flowers, great food, and providing practice for students entering the hospitality industry! Bravo to the instructors!
We had the corner round table which seated 7 of us comfortably. Awesomest view! A/c was too cold. My mother had to leave her coat on. Many of us were disappointed that the sea bass entre was not available. So only 3 items left on menu. The escargot (snails) in puff pastry were fabulous! ( see photo). My duck was good but better a previous meal. (OK - this is a cooking school). The cauliflower steak was presented like a tree. Spiced creatively. The asparagus bread pudding side was delicious. The desserts as always totally creative. The table next to us had a sumptuous looking chocolate birthday cake that was prepared by Ivy Tech bakery on premises. Good to know we can order those! We had a memorable lunch and are always thrilled to dine there and support the school.
Treated a friend to lunch and am so glad I did. Requested a window seat and got it! Our server was personable and helpful in explaining and recommending dishes. The entrees (steak, sea bass) were wonderful and the desserts were exceptional! Charcuterie dish was very below par. Such a pleasant adventure (and so affordable!). Will definitely come again!!!
Superb. Best view in Indy. Great to be supporting a cooking/hospitality school. Ambiance is lovely, with mahogany wood, and table cloths. We had an exquisite lunch and were wowed by the creativity of the dishes, the presentation and the taste. The carmelized onion tart was one of the best appetizers Ive ever had. And it looked like a flower, encircled with home made chips. The shrimp topped crepes in lobster sauce were delicious and the dessert - an assortment of berries, beet souffle, pot au creme, meringue, was a creative collage that was stunning - a masterpiece. See photos below.
Courses was fantastic! The view was amazing! The students did a great job. My husband had a birthday and they even gave him a birthday card! Can’t wait to go back. Oh, the Chef introduced himself to us and asked questions.
Enjoyed the Celebrating Spring luncheon. The tables were beautifully set with colorful napkins and fresh flowers, the students were attentive, and the food was delicious and wonderfully plated. Always one of my favorite places for a great meal with the best view of the city.
First but not time going. Students of the culinary arts doing fantastic things
Great hide away restaurant with a beautiful view of the city. Recommend to all
This is a great place to allow students the opportunity to learn about the restaurant world. The restaurant itself needs some serious updating. The windows and view are beautiful but the carpet, tables and chairs need updated. The room was also FREEZING. I don't know if a new HVAC system is needed as well. The server was very nice but I noticed a lot of servers / students just kind of standing around chatting in the hallway and bar area. It appears as if they need more things to do.
Courses provides learning while doing! The students in Ivy Tech's Hospitality program provide the front and back of the house. A full bar (with a specialty cocktail each week and a great wine and beer list), amazing food, and a view of the city that could only be rivaled at the Eagles Nest. Service is limited based on the college's class schedule. Friend Courses on Facebook and you will be aware of schedules and menus! A must if you are a foodie, a fan of Indianapolis, and believe in helping our citizens prepare for work in the hospitality industry! (Be sure the ask your server(s) for their story!
Excellent as always! African Buffet was delicious, nice variations , all very tasty.
This restaurant is supported by Ivy Tech’s hospitality programs. Students run the front and back of the house. The food is always amazing and it is great to support students and give them real life experience.
This is the best opportunity for amazing food at a great price. AND you get to help student's in the hospitality and culinary arts program at Ivy Tech Community College perfect their skills!
The menu was superb. Best duck I have ever eaten, even in China. The service was
flawless and attentive. Hands down, its the best view in Indianapolis - 360 degree
view in all directions. I can't wait to go back.
Wonderful ambiance and inspiring youthful energy—love the concept that the students get to participate both in kitchen and on floor service—to have that overall sense of a restaurants flow adds tremendously to the possiblity of a great dining experience—Lauren, who served us, shows great potential as she was eager to please and was attentive and helpful in ensuring that our luncheon was successful—would definitely return and thank you for providing such a valuable service
Courses is a culinary arts school restaurant. The menu has about three or four choices each of appetizers, entree, and desert. However, each course has many components, almost like getting a sampler. Excellent food and presentation. Price is $15 to 30, depending on menu. Wine, beer, other drinks available. Hours are limited, plan ahead. Worth a visit!
Excellent dinner, the food was so fresh and flavorful, beautifully presented. We had the choice of salad appetizer or soup. Then a choice of entrees. The duck breast was beautifully presented, cooked to perfection. It can be tricky to cook lamb but it was perfect along with the roasted brussel sprouts. How did they get such flavor in those potatoes? Desserts were very upscale, beautiful and tasted great.
It was a little slow but with the nice environment and beautiful view of Indianapolis I would have been disappointed to not be given the time to enjoy it. The service was very good she checked on us regularly. We had a second server for beverages who also told us the story of the restaurant and the trip to Paris it helps to fund. I wish I could post pictures.
Wow - what a fantastic experience. We recently dined at Courses , where French cuisine was featured. Outstanding food, personable wait staff and a new director. While this is a student-centered venture (both in food prep and servers), it rivals any restaurant in the city.
Great views. Nice wine list good food
As a former student and program graduate, I like to support the students and the college.
Great view of the heart of Indy. The food is well prepared and beautifully presented from a theme region that changes regularly. The music also seemed to match the theme. The atmosphere is simultaneously romantic and casual, allowing for a pleasing meal regardless of the occasion. Reservations are easy to make through Open Table.
The African buffet was amazing. The students did an excellent job with service - kept my diet coke filled! Very attentive and knowledgeable about the food.
We have been regular diners at Courses, and until this past week, have been totally impressed with the student servers, chefs, and overall guest experience. However, on our most recent visit, the service was sub-par, with a clear lack of direction from the director/instructor to the wait staff -- we waited nearly 25 minutes to have our drink order taken; one of our diners was served an entree that wasn't hot, and the desert (of which there was only one option), was nearly frozen. This time, the director/instructor didn't even bother to stop at our table. This is a great program, has always been fun to talk with students about their aspirations and goals, has a terrific view of the city, and consistently tasty dishes. I am hoping that this was an isolated incident; we'll give it another try next semester.
We like going to Courses and supporting the Ivy Tech and IUPUI Culinary students. The meals were very good. The views from the restaurant are amazing.
This is a great dining option. Best kept secret. Food is deliciously prepared and elegantly served. Wait staff outstanding
Stunningly good 3 course nouvelle French lunch, appropriate quantities for lunch served with elegance in plating, in an unknown gem of a location with one of the best views of Indianapolis.
Best view of downtown Indianapolis from the penthouse of a former hotel and restaurant. This restaurant reminded me of fine dining in Paris, but much cheaper. We loved watching the students cooking through observation windows and seeing them being supervised by their professors, like how to pour wine with the label on top, etc. Salad ingredients are growing in a garden by the parking lot and used to tastefully enhance the soups and entrees.
Truly a delightful experience. I wish they were open on weekends and holidays.
A truly hidden gem. A must try for lunch or dinner if you have the opportunity. Wonderful meals prepared and served by the students of Ivy Tech and IUPUI. It is seasonal, in that lunch and dinner are only provided when classes are in session. The menu changes weekly. There is a bar. The view from the Penthouse where the restaurant is located is spectacular. Looking at Downtown Indianapolis and beyond. It is truly worth a visit.
What a great place to enjoy lunch or dinner it's a shame if you haven't tried this place
Really fantastic! Too bad they are not open more often
Enjoyed atmosphere for luncheon....was not rushed. Good food and great variety. Prompt and attentive service. Look forward to coming back again next month.
This is a restaurant featuring food prepared and served by Culinary Arts/Hospitality students at Ivy Tech. The food is generally very good to outstanding. The menu is limited to what is being taught that day (or limited by whatever the theme of the day is) and is not customizable. I consider this not much of a disadvantage, as it encourages experimentation with unfamiliar foods. Service is spotty, as many of these students are very young and/or have no experience. The sights from this place (the penthouse of a repurposed hotel) are excellent, and the decor is understated and pleasant. I have been there several times, and always enjoy the experience.
Courses was recommended by a unfamiliar couple I met from another engagement. My expectations were over whelming exceeded, the service outstanding, the food was middle eastern which was fabulous for my Lebanese wife. She said the food wa better than her grandmother's. I used Waze to find the IVY Tech restaurant and parked in a recommended lot. Parking is available at site, and no walking is necessary. Quality dining at a very affordable price. Yes, I, a German, am going back week for German food.
