Connie's Pizza in Gold Coast - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Our first time dining at Connie's Gold Coast. Order was delayed because of oven failure, but Connie's management more than made up for it by offering double digit discount. The ambiance was relaxing so we did not mind the wait, and when the pizza did arrive (deep dish, pepperoni-mushroom-green pepper), it was delicious!
Connie's is always comfortable! No matter if it is date night or a big family group, one always feels at home. The servers are especially friendly and the food always predictably delicious. They run various promotions such as buy one pizza, get one free or half-price wine so check those out too.
A family-friendly affordable restaurant of course with great pizza. We live in the Gold Coast and not all restaurants are affordable. Whenever life becomes so busy and I haven't had time to grocery shop or cook, this is our new "go-to" for a casual, affordable evening out!
But seemed to have challenges along the way with service. It was a slow Sunday afternoon but attention to detail and service was questionable.
Brought out four water glasses for the table-- big glasses-- including for my 5 and 2 year old.
Ordered the kids meal for them and asked the their meal to come out with my salad and my salad came out first.
Needed to ask for their milk as part of the kids meal to come. Twice.
Service just seemed off.
Food is great.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Connie's Friday. Our hostess, Kacie, made sure our evening was special. Please send her our regards! Our booth was dressed with fine linens and the service was exceptional. Many of the staff stopped by separately to congratulate us and ask "if there was something else they could do". The food was delightful, huge portions and beautiful presentation. The restaurant can accommodate large groups as well as private dining. We will visit again and bring the kids along. It was so refreshing to receive that level of service! Thanks Connie's Gold Coast!!!!
I've been going to Connie's for maybe 20 years! This was my first time at this location. It was very pretty and the quality of the food was exactly what I was expecting. It had a beautiful view of a garden, and I just loved the ambiance and decor of the place. Also, I loved that it was wheelchair accessible. I use a wheelchair, and I always feel insulted when a restaurant is not accessible, to me that feels like they do not care about their customers. This location had TWO wheelchair lifts to make sure we can enter, and I know how expensive those lifts are, so big points to Connie's for doing that!!
I reserved a table via OpenTable the night before. In the notes, I mentioned that I would be on a date and would like a quiet place to talk with my guest. The hostess delightfully honored our request and had a excited smirk on her face because she was obviously aware or our romantic occassion. Our server, Johnny Lopez was excellent. I could tell he was also aware of our occassion. He was not present too often, but was right there when we needed something. He respected our space and monitored us from a distance. As an employee for Hilton Hotels in Chicago, he was nice enough to give us an industry discount. He also went out of his way to surprise us with an extra tasting course of fresh Prosciutto di Parma. My date and I loved everything about Connie's Pizza. Although they specialize in wood burning oven pizza, the calamari was also great. Perfectly cooked. Not chewy at all. Lightly battered so the flavor of the calamari could speak for itself instead of heavily breaded seafood that masks the flavor of the main ingredient. Go to Connie's on your second or third date when you are comfortable enough with each other to throw some shorts on and enjoy some great food in the middle of Gold Coast's restaurant and bar district. KUDOS to Johnny, the hostess and the rest of the back of the house kitchen staff that often times gets overlooked for their labor and long hours of prepping. I am going back soon. -Antonio Q.
While the name suggests a pizza parlor, Connie's menu includes much more: a variety of pasta/sauces, entrées such as Chicken Marsala, sausage and peppers, and several entrée salads. Desserts were excellent -- a plate of mini cannoli, in particular. Service was very attentive. Indoor parking in the 1000 N. State St. Garage is validated so the actual parking charge is reasonable though the garage itself was somewhat challenging due to a current construction project. Tucked inside the lobby of the apartment building, Connie's is worth looking for: A very enjoyable evening.
Connies isn't as well know as the Gino's East or Lou's, but give it a try and you will not be sorry. I recommend the pan crust - it's thick and crispy and the cheese is to die for - so delicious! They've been around for over 50 years and this is their north side location - original is in Bridgeport near Sox Park. Love this place! Great for groups - they also have a huge party room available. Nice bartenders. Good place to hang during the week or weekend.
Ordered two large original pan pizzas (One sausage and one pepperoni). Both had lots of meat and cheese. The original is not a deep dish pie but has a thicker outer crust which was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Our server was very attentive and our food came out quick. We'll definitely go back.
The wood fire pizza is very good! I love Connie's pizza, and the wood fire is a great addition to their menu! I would recommend everyone head to the Gold Coast location to try it. I also had the roasted goat cheese in a tomato sauce appetizer. I could eat that with every meal.
Went into Connie's to have dinner before a show since it was across from bus route 36 to get to show on cold Chicago night. Staff was very friendly and professional. We start with a wood fired pizza as an appetizer and it was excellent. Both my wife and I had pasta dishes for the main meal and both were very good. Service was excellent and our waitress was a real gem...wish I could remember her name for the review to give her a shout out for great service. Overall a wonderful experience and would go to Connie's Gold Coast again.
It's been a long time since I had Connie's, and I am happy I am back. Very nice restaurant, great pizza, and solid drink menu. We had 2 bottles of wine which were very reasonable. Service...could be better, but not bad. I think maybe just a little newer to being a server. Still, I recommend. This place is very kid friendly which is hard to find in this area. Also, it won't break the bank.
- Delicious pizza!
- Very courteous owner/Manager. Made us feel like home
- Service. We had 2-3 servers at the table, sometimes at the same time. Felt like we were at a store buying perfume
- Service. Beer came after fries.
- Service. Our "main" server didn't come back to ask if we wanted something else (dessert, more drinks!)
- Go there for the pizza, it might just make you forget about the misses
We came early for our reservation and the woman didn't ask for my name although I told her I had a reservation. We sat in the bar and the bartender Johnny was great. The pizza and salad was delicious. The only thing I didn't like was he brought me another drink before I finished my first and I didn't order or want another. I felt obligated to drink it. Any way small complaint. There was live music which was okay but there wasn't any playing after he left.
While the restaurant has a slightly corporate feel, the staff couldn't be nicer and seemed genuinely invested in our experience. The deep dish pizza is delicious and the pastas we tried were good, too (the meatballs tasted home made). Also the fact that they take reservations is a huge advantage over all the other Chicago pizza houses - that made them a lifesaver for our tired family! Definitely recommended.
Have know about Connie's pizza for years (although I live in Texas) because I am a DieHard Cubs Fan & see Connie's add in the Vineline magazine for years! Knew we would have to give it a try! Had a piece of pizza at the Taste of Chicago this week and knew even more than I would have to make the walk to have an entire pizza there! Simply OUTSTANDING! Best in Chicago!
Connie's Pizza has pretty standard offerings, however our fabulous server, Shelby, made us feel like we were in a 5-Star Restaurant. She handled our rambunctious group flawlessly, and all food came out timely. The BBQ Chicken Pizza was a hit - we will be back.
