The food was fabulous with wonderful flavors and the service great. We had the squash soup, cauliflower rice dish and apple pear salad. Great location prior to going to a theater production!
The service was absolutely horrendous. I'm not sure if the staff was having an off day or what, but there was no host at the entrance when we arrived, so we were pretty much wandering around for 15 minutes. I confirmed with the host the day before that we were coming for the upside down tea party and when we were finally seated, we were given a dinner menu instead of a tea menu. We waited 38 minutes for a server to finally come over to take our order.
The vibe of the place was excellent, I would definitely come back just to see the place, but I don't think I would come back to eat/drink here.
I like the commons club. It was me and my lady's 1st time there. Our server (I believe his name was Conner) was great! The food portions were pretty small. We were back hungry after about a hour or so. But over all it was good. I will most def be back.
PS - You guys are officially number 4 in my top 10 calamari list.
Amazing food, quiet nice atmosphere, great service
Open table misled us, indicating that they were part of restaurant week, but the restaurant manager said they did not participate in restaurant week. To be courteous, the manager reduced the bill. Ignoring open table, we were pleased with the food and service and will go back.
I was looking forward to the Chinese buffet that Commons Club was offering for Christmas Day. However, I ended up being very disappointed. First off, one of us ordered one of the two cocktails that were on the menu to accompany the dinner, and the server brought the wrong drink. Then she disappeared for a while. We went up to the buffet, and the food looked delicious. Frankly it even tasted delicious, but it was COLD. The fried rice: cold; the white rice: cold; the entrees: cold. The only things on the buffet that were hot were the eggrolls and the crab rangoon. I found an employee, perhaps he was a manager, and told him I was concerned about the temperature of the food. He said that he'd talk to someone and have them do something about it. Later I saw people fiddling with the heating elements, but the food was still cold the next time I got a helping. We heard people at the next table complain to their waitress about the temperature of the food as well. At any rate, we asked that waitress if she could bring the correct drink to the table, so she put in the order. About 15 minutes later our original waitress dropped the drink off at the table and went on her way, not offering us the check or anything. When we asked the other waitress for the check, my dining partner explained the snafu with the cold food and she adjusted the check somehow, so that was good. But the entire experience left me feeling cranky. Oh, and to add insult to injury, we were left with all our dirty dishes on the table, with no one taking them from our table. I'm not going there again and will not recommend it to anyone.
Deloise, I am so disappointed to hear about your experience. This is not the level of service or quality of experience we strive to provide. I would love to be given the chance to rectify your experience and show you a proper dining experience. We value your feedback greatly and only look to improve on quality of food for special events, and especially service and punctuality. Please let us know your email address so we can connect. Thank you, Zachary
Afternoon tea was just meh. Server ignored the one allergy at the table, mint, by serving the first teapot with fresh mint leaves stuffed into the spout. Bites were a bit underwhelming, apart from the biscuits with jam and chocolate truffle which were pretty tasty. Overall; the atmosphere was fun, and festive. Save some money, and pour a splash of whiskey into your own tea at home.
I really like this restaurant, but something was off yesterday. The waiter didn’t pay much attention to my friend and me. My friend’s steak was cold and the replacement steak she received was smaller in portion. We had to flag down various waitstaff to put in our drinks order and to inform about my friend’s steak. It was so odd because the restaurant was practically empty. Also, they were out of the weekday special and didn’t inform us until my friend tried to order it. The manager was sympathetic and comped the whole meal. But I’m not inclined to go back.
Great food, maybe a tad expensive. The Lobster/bacon sandwich is amazing!
We enjoyed a great meal in a very comfortable setting.
the food was delicious the presentation beautifully done. Great place to meet friends for snacks or dinner
Beautiful restaurant, great food... perfect vibe for a date and conversation. Would definitely some back here.
Awful service. Was made to feel like being there was an inconvenience by the server and bartender. Was not greeted in a warm or friendly manner. Waited 10-minutes for a glass of wine after entrees arrived at the table. Miserable dining experience overall. I typically do not write reviews but it was such a bad experience, I felt compelled.
The four of us enjoyed an entirely delightful dinner; ambiance, waiter, manager, chef -- all outstanding!
We had reservations for commons club with tickets to a Madonna party. However, the commons club ended up being bought out for a private party (which we totally understand) however we were not informed until after arrival and were told that the party was moved to make Rickys diner. The Madonna party menu and drinks did not transfer over nor did the party. The waitress had no idea what was going on although she did try to get some information from concierge for us. Had we been informed before hand of the party being canceled then we wouldn’t have gone out of our way to come.
Great ambiance and service, excellent wine selection, good food. A great evening out!
Madonna themed prixe fixe pre show dinner.
Loved the variety of starters. Martinis superb! Wine selection just right (Tempranillo).
Very cool atmosphere. Excellent service and food was delicious. But, the portions are tiny!!!
Afternoon tea was fabulous. The commons club team puts on a lovely tea time. Had a great time w fun cocktails and great food!
Hi SonyaK, thank you for your review!
I came here from a recommendation because it was supposed to be Alice in Wonderland-esque and it just didn't deliver. The food was good, but only had 4 boozy tea selections and 1 one of them was out. Apparently they don't make it custom its all pre-made. Wouldn't really go back.
Hello, We are so sorry to hear about your experience. We have sent a private message to find out more. Best, Pam
Nicely curated menu with enticing flavor combinations. We especially enjoyed a refreshing watermelon salad that had a kick of spice to it. Perfectly cooked salmon topped with microgreens on a bed of corn was accompanied by a sauce and foam that supplemented the flavors without overwhelming. Service was friendly and attentive all around - we got to a nearby performance with plenty of time. Bar area was lively when we visited, while just a bit further back in the space where we were seated was quiet and conversation friendly. We had a great time!
Commons Club in the Virgin Hotel is one of those cool, eclectic places that you can have a real experience at. The Upside Down Tea (or boozy tea as me and my peeps call it) is outstanding!!!
The champagne teas are so good and the tea bites are not your regular tea bites. No cucumber sandwiches on this tea menu. I had the most flavorful pork belly ever and let's not even get started on the biscuit with jam and cream. Sooo good!!!!
The food was delicious and the ambiance was fantastic, not to mention great service. Will definitely come back.
Decided to do the Upside Down Tea Party for my birthday and was not disappointed. The boozy chilled tea was marvelous and the sweet and savory bites were everything!
Amazing to hear! Hope to see you back soon.
The fresh menu for summer was fantastic! The service was friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and completely attentive. We never had to ask for a thing! Bravo!
Hi ShaunD, thanks for stopping in! We hope to see you back soon.
Went there for dinner before a show at Chicago Theater. Generally ok place but there was a dj at the entrance and her music was extremely loud throughout the restaurant (not just bar area). AC was a bit too cold also. Other than that food and service were decent
Thank you for your feedback, we will pass the message along with management.
Went here for afternoon tea on a Saturday in the summer at 2:30pm. Only 2 other couples in the whole place. Claimed that there was a shortage on the tea snacks so we did not have an option in what was served, but they still managed to come up with a great variety of snacks, sweets, and savory items. We would of never even known. Very quiet and clean. Slightly edgier than regular English afternoon tea, not regular cucumber sandwich type of snacks. Honestly enough snacks to really make it a meal. Tea was served very hot and tasty.
Hi Anonymous, thanks for stopping in! We hope to see you soon.
Very unique dishes prepared with playful and unexpected flavors! Will return many times.
Hi Anonymous, Thanks for stopping by!
A very Limited options menu. It was a Monday night and the place was dead. We ordered a few app. Which were very good, the bread service was good but expensive.
Hi Live2eat, Thank you for your feedback. It's important to us that we know what our customers experience. We hope to see you back soon. Best, CC Team
Great food - loved the ability to order combinations - each tastier than the next - well done!
Hi Tortuga, Thank you for your review! We hope to see you soon.
Great. Fun place to pre game...
Hi Anonymous, thanks for your review!
beautifully composed dishes with layered and complex flavors and textures. Clearly the chef loves to create exciting dishes
Hi joshf, thanks for showing us some love! We hope to see you again soon. Cheers!
Get the boozy tea.. upside down afternoon tea.
It was magical.
Hi Caitie, Thanks for showing us some love!
We took a group of 22 and had such an exceptional experience that 4 of us returned three days later. Amazing food and desserts. Will definitely be back.
Cute place inside a cute hotel.. but wasn't that remarkable for the money.
Hi Danny, thank you for your review. We hope to see you again.
Noise was incredibly loud but staff was very accommodating by moving us even though we were a large party. Still hard to hear though. Food was pretty good but some prices seemed high for portion size.
Hi CarrieW, Thank you for sharing your feedback both positive and constructive, I will bring this up to our Exec Chef. I do want to apologize for the noise but am glad to hear that the staff was able to accommodate your party. We hope to see you again soon! Best, Pam
Service was not great. They weren’t rude, just incredibly absent. I had to get up 4 times to get forks, to get a knife, to order dessert, and to ask for our check. All this on a Wednesday night, not even a Saturday.
The food was average, not magnificent, but good. The ambiance is adorable. I really liked the vibe and although my girlfriends were annoyed with the lack of service, we were stoked on the vibe.
Hi Anonymous, We appreciate your feedback and have sent you a private message. Best.
Reservation was not held. Service was never obtained. Left before even getting a menu 20 minutes after arrival.
Great evening, food and service. The chef is creative and portions are value priced right. A perfect place for a weeknight dinner where one needn’t speak loudly over the din to their dinner mates. Only issue was the airflow by windows was chilly for some.
