Coltivare - Ithaca
Open for Dinner nightly Tuesday-Sunday, we offer Happy Hour specials at the bar during the week and a special Sunday Brunch. Our modern, rustic, and inviting atmosphere serves as the perfect backdrop for our farm-to-table mission.
we had a great experience here - we all enjoyed our food and wine and the service was great. no complaints!
Well, my first experience at Coltivare was so good, it was at the Drag Brunch on January 25th 2020. The food was delicious! So good in fact, we decided to do our Valentine's celebration there for brunch the Sunday after Valentines Day. I was sooo disappointed, the food was bland, I got the breakfast burrito and I was excited for it, it sounded delicious, however very very bland and really greasy. My boyfriend got the build your own omelette and that too was really bland, he added some salt and pepper and even then it wasn't very good. I am unsure what the difference between the 2 days were, different chef's? Also, the service was very confusing, we had 2 different waiters, I was unsure of who to ask for when I needed something. The servers didn't do anything wrong, it was just a little weird.
Food was delicious. Wait staff is excellent. Will definitely come back when we are in town.
Menu selection, speed of and quality of service was excellent. Cost was affordable and inline with the quality Of a fine restaurant. The only down side to the entire evening was using the Open Table reservation service that blocked out available setting times two weeks in advance and would not allow a change when others became available and had not been filled two days before the evening of the dinner. The restaurant is paying for this service and losing customers ! Bad investment !.
We really enjoyed our dinner. We had a late seating because it was Valentine's Day, but the place was still very busy at 8:30pm. The chocolate raspberry cosmo was delicious! The starter and "small plate" portions were super generous - plenty for sharing if you like. Knowing that this is a training restaurant for a local culinary school and that everyone is learning as they go - very impressive!
Service was excellent. A good option for a nice meal in Ithaca.
First time visiting and decided we would visit again! Bread and dipping oil was delicious. One of us ordered a chicken dish. Tasty however, a little of the dry side. Burger was good. Short rib pasta had good flavor and short ribs melted in my mouth...but... there was not much short rib pieces ... maybe 4 small pieces. A few more would e been great!
Good prices. Nice atmosphere! Nice first experience.
We were really looking forward to trying this restaurant however it was overall a disappointment. Firstly you cannot get a glass of wine that is not from the finger Lakes. While I appreciate the finger Lakes wine I wanted something Italian and it is only available in bottles. Secondly, The food all sounds very good but was mostly tasteless. I will say that the buffalo cauliflower was excellent. The mushroom bruschetta/veggie burger/and polenta and pear cake Were complete disappointments. The barbecue shrimp was swimming in barbecue sauce which was overpowering. We did like the ambience and may be willing to give the restaurant a second chance by trying Other options.
The appetizer - beet bruschetta was delicious. I had the hamburger - it was perfect. Service was a bit slow - but it looked like they might have been understaffed. All in all - a great night out!
Fantastic food and cocktails. Great service. We come here every time we are in Ithaca. Simply love this restaurant.
Love the food and the music is classic.
The food was very good, the service was truly superb, and the ambiance is welcoming and interesting. Coltivare uses local meat and local produce--and Finger Lakes wines, too. It is a teaching restaurant--students interested in food preparation refine craft there and that, too, adds to the experience. I had a very well prepared salmon dish. My waiter was especially attentive and knowledgeable. All in all, it was an excellent dinner, and I'll return again and again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Coltivare. We had a fantastic waitperson (Helene). Our dinners were delicious and the presentation were amazing. We will be going back again soon.
They also have cooking classes on the second Saturday of each month. We plan on attending the next one.
Helene is a wonderful wait person. Thanks also to Coltivare staff for seating us in a quiet room per my request. My dinner guest was hard of hearing and was, in fact, in town to give a radio interview about hearing loss as an invisible disability and the social isolation that it can create. The Coltivare wine cellar room is a wonderful accomodation for the hard of hearing.
The service was a little slow, we sat down at our reservation time and it took 10 minutes before we got water and out drink order, then we only got visited 4 times throughout our meal, once for order, once to refill water, once for dessert menu, and once for bill. I enjoyed going and will go again.
Our waitress was rude and inattentive . I also have food allergies and she was very impatient with my questions. I also feel as a restaurant that if you put GF on something that is fried it should be done in a separate frier. I was disappointed that there was so many things marked gf that were not due to cross contamination .
We had a wonderful dinner. I love that it's a teaching experience. The students are definitely learning superior customer service and bartending skills. The food was very good, presentation was nice. The New Year's Eve menu was a great deal. The dessert menu looked amazing. I'll be back to try a few of them.
We always enjoy dining here. Great ambiance and easy parking.
Perfect place for graduation family dinner
Lovely time. Great shareable dishes
Excellent choice for food do we had a variety and loved everything. The service was attentive and prompt. Another great time!
I booked Coltivare for my son’s graduation dinner. I had been to Mercado several times (awesome restaurant - 5s across board) - but online ratings for Coltivare were better and I thought I would try something new.
Decor was very nice, new, contemporary with a bit of west-coast/ California feel. Wait staff very attentive, knowledgeable and prompt.
Food: was terrible to the point of creating a mind numbing inability to describe. Both my son and I fought through our meals and only after several trial “how does your food taste” did we both acknowledge our mistake. Ordered local cheese meat platter - giant chunks of three apparently cheddars cut in “business conference cheese cubes” - except for they were not perfect 1” cubes but 1-1/2 to 2” cubes. Seriously? You think we wanted to pay more for giant chunks of average cheddar?
Son had pork bellies with Brussels sprouts . Pork bellies were fatty and flavorless. Brussels sprouts were inedible. Tasted like coconut hair conditioner or dish soap.
I had the grouper but it was oddly deep fried in an overpowering but indistinct batter.
Ordered dessert - again huge disappointment.
Ended up tossing doggy bag in trash on walk to Mercado where we had a cocktail and appetizer and laughed about our mistake. Skip the pain go with Mercado or somewhere else.
Great place. Gorgeous inside and phenomenal food. Went with extended family for dinner and they had no trouble accommodating us. Everyone loved it. Will definitely tell my friends and will definitely be back.
Excellent service and very good food. Our waiter was attentive and timely with requests
Amazing food very well made and great choices. Mac and cheese was the best in town. Salmon and risotto was perfectly cooked. The wait staff was very attentive
Food just ok, overpriced. We were only the second table seated in the whole restaurant. They seated the next party immediately next to us, about 3 feet away, when they could have been seated anywhere giving both parties a bit of privacy.
Nice place with great ambiance but food was lackluster on this visit. My husband ordered a hamburger medium- came out well, well done. My pasta with short ribs was tasty but the pasta was over cooked. Great service!
Service was good. Salmon cake not that good. Bloody bar had bacon and kimchi which was good. My friend barely ate the fried chicken steak with gravy. No one spoke about how good their brunch was.
Awesome experience loved it
Everything was great. Our server could have been a bit friendlier. She wasn’t bad but didnt have any conversation with us or anything. She seemed as if she was just “doing her job” if that makes sense. A good server will check on you, make it personal by conversation etc. food was great though and the atmosphere was beautiful:)
Great food, cozy atmosphere
Excellent. Best meal we have had in a while. Our server was attentive. We like the farm to table aspect.
One of my favorite spots to go on dates and take friends as an introduction to Ithaca and all it has to offer. Awesome drinks, great wine list, amazing food and incredible service. High class dining at a reasonable price.
They seemed to be having an off night when I was there. My Caesar salad had wilted lettuce and flavorless dressing and the croutons tasted like store bought. The fried smashed potatoes that we looked forward to (and was the reason we ordered the autumn chicken) were replaced with fingerlings without explanation—even when we asked about it!! We waited a very long time for a bread refill-so that the delicious shrimp sauce that we wanted to dip into got cold. The cheese flatbread was delicious, but let’s face it, it’s just a pizza. The pork belly was very good and the baratta app glaze was delicious. Hit and miss. Would refer a friend for the beautifully appointed decor.
The wait staff was fantastic but the food took almost 45 minutes to arrive. It was just omlettes and pancakes for 4 people and there were probably 6 tables at the restaurant at the time in total.
The food did not meet expectations. The risotto was tasteless. Burger was tough and tasteless. Fries over cooked. The decor and ambiance were beautiful and I love the idea of farm to table but the food preparation needs a lot of work. I will not return.
What a wonderful dining experience all around! The food was delicious, exquisitely prepared. The three of us did not leave one morsel on our plates. The restaurant is stunning , the decor has a modern feel with rustic vibe, interesting use of materials, texture and space for a visual delight. This place was tastier than Moosewood with a more interesting menu and decor. Better than all of the restaurants we have been to in Ithaca.
The food and atmosphere were top notch with good service. We will return next time we visit Irhaca.
The food was great and portions were good. Was there for brunch and would definitely recommend. Wonderful service....
Took our grandson and his roommate for dinner and we were very happy with the service and food was delicious. One caveat; you only had one steak offered for $45 and although three of us wanted steak, we felt that &45 was too steep so we had to settle for fish, that was disappointing. You should give people more than one option for something like that. Had I known I would have picked a restaurant with more steak options.
On a very rainy night, the restaurant had few patrons. It was warm and comfortable, and the service was excellent. The food, however, was not up to the other positive attributes. The macaroni and cheese with smoked pork was a very heavy meal , and the flavors did not blend well. Even though listed as a small plate, it would easily have fed two people a full meal.
