Too often one has to choose between good food and great ambiance. Not here. The waterside patio offered a gorgeous view of the San Diego skyline and the food was delicious. True it's a little pricey and they tack on the additional 3% as a way of demonstrating their increased costs as a result of city minimum wage laws. But for a special occasion it's well worth it. A memorable experience
Good service, food, view.
The calamari appetizer was a bit soagie but I had the main diver scallops and my husband seafood cazuela, both were good.
The food was not near as good as our 2 previous visits. This was noted by all of the guest's. Very loud.
It was my boyfriend’s 37th birthday. Neither of us had been here before and it was great! Tonight was our second time out without our eleven week old twins and we couldn’t have had a better time! Aiden was our server and he took great care of us. Thanks for the great food, views and service!
Three of us had the Lobster/ Bean Burrito.
No Lobster we three agreed. One tiny bit and lots of beans.
Not happy about it!
And two of us got sick afterwards.
Amazing service! We will return again to see Melida! She is the main reason. The food was delicious too!
We went here for a Birthday because we wanted a view and yelper's gave this place great reviews! From the minute we sat done everything was fantastic! The service, the food, the VIEW. Everyone commented on how good the margaritas were. You could tell they were made with fresh ingredients and not just bottled mix. All our food was so flavorful from the fish tacos, torta, Ahi tostada! We will be back again and again!
Love this place. Food service and ambiance
Great experience as always
Birthday, however they did not recognize it.
One of the best restaurants in SD from the food to the service. Reasonable priced and a great view.
One of our favorite spots!
Food is unbelievable, great, unique taste. Margaritas dont really get the bang for your buck but are absoutely delicious. Great poors on the draft beer. Scenery is unreal for a sunset dinner! Overall recommend this place to anyone and everyone. You definitly get your moneys worth in food and taste🙌🏼
I celebrated my birthday dinner with my beloved Family I really enjoy the ambience breathtaking views great service as well Food is Fantastic
Treated my boyfriend to dinner for his 61st birthday who is also new to San Diego! He loved it! We loved it!
The shrimp appetizer was way to sour , we told the server and she got it taken off our ticket . The entree was delicious and the drinks are amazing
Best views of downtown! Food is delicious but menu is limited.
Coconut margaritas and tableside guacamole are to die for. A must visit location.
Enjoyed the lovely city view once we asked for a better table... Chips, salsa and guacamole were superb, our waiter was very good, but I wasn’t crazy for the shredded beef/pork (?) appetizer I ordered, maybe because I was full of guacamole! (Sooo good.) Salads were good. Would return!
Visiting from Texas and ended eating here 3 out of the 5 days we were in town. Pork Shank was amazing.
Beautiful view, great service, fantastic food!! Would highly recommend!
I have dined at this restaurant many times. This last visit the service was extremely poor. It took over an hour for our order to be taken. I think they were hoping we would order more cocktails/wine which we did. Still makes me upset. Hoping next time the service is better as this is one of our favorite local spots.
We were there just last Sunday for the first time and ate outdoors. The view is fabulous as is the ambiance. The food was wonderful, especially the steak with the Mexican mashed potatoes. They don’t skimp on food either! The margaritas are freshly made and the best I’ve ever had. It was a chilly night and there are heaters above. However, they don’t turn them on unless you ask, I’m not sure why they wait. I saw several people get up and move inside not knowing there were heaters. There is a barge that sits in front, it looks like it is for special events. But, at night you don’t see the barge, just the decorations on top. I would ask the restaurant to turn off that huge screen. It’s very distracting and takes away from the ambiance.
I’m glad we went, will go again!
Seafood cazuela and skinny margs were so good! Waiter was really helpful with helping us chose entrees. plus the view of the sky line is enough was incredible.
Even though we scheduled a birthday celebration it was never acknowledged. We all thought the food and drinks were just fair. This is the second time I gavee been to this restaurant and I am not impressed!
Too cold. You cannot reserve inside tables. It was freezing. Had change tables quite often to find one not blasting A/C. Otherwise food and service were fantastic.
Always great time, great service and food is wonderful
It was a very windy evening that is was impossible to enjoy the meal. There was no protection from the winds. The guest didn’t enjoy the evening meal and they said it was an unforgettable experience.
Try the Skinny Margarita, they’re delicious!! And the view....amazing!
Had wanted to try this place since it opened as a replacement for the old Ruben E Lee boat restaurant. Views are great of course. Food is creative, taking off from typical Mex dishes. The Chile relleno I had was good, though didn’t resemble anything traditional. The fish & chips tacos another in our party had were a little weird, in my opinion. The staff were helpful but the atmosphere struck me as trying to be too trendy. Prices for lunch were steep.
Would have said four stars but knocked one off for the idiotic policy of tacking on an extra three percent because of wage laws. Really people, just raise your prices a little and pay staff a living wage.
Food is always excellent
So unfortunate that they built a building in front of the restaurant so it cuts the view in half. It was much more beautiful when it opened. Overall ok but doesn’t have an exclusive feel anymore between the view and just overall crowding. Wouldn’t bother going there again for the price.
Great location with fantastic views! I ordered the fish of the day (unfortunately I cannot remember what they called it), it was a whitefish that was served whole, minus the head and deboned. It was good, but not fabulous and definitely not worth the $38.00 it cost. The service was okay, but a little slow. I would still go back for the ambiance and views, but would probably stick with drinks and appetizers.
One of the best all around restaurants in San Diego
This restaurant had fabulous food, great service, good live music, and a view that can't be beat. The only downfall is that it's quite loud and it was a little difficult to carry on a conversation. Overall it was very good and we had a really nice evening
Main course items were limited, and the ones we chose were awful. More like a truck stop meal than restaurant class food. Huge portions of mediocre beef and pork. We asked the waiter for suggestions and he did not describe dishes or make recommendations except to say not to fill up on chips because we had ordered a lot of food.
The nacho appetizer that was the best part of the meal. Beautiful setting, fair service, poor quality food.
Terrific venue and views. Great service and delicious food.
Coasterra was an excellent place for us to spend our last night in San Diego! We sat outside - the view, the climate, and the environment were all wonderful. Our food was excellent too. I had the tuna tostada and the lobster and black bean flauta. Both were delicious and exactly what I was hoping for. The cocktails were creative and tasty. Our server took good care of us. Highly recommend!
This was my second time at Coasterra. First time i was there for a company event and it was amazing to say the least. The second time which is for this review was for my GFs Birhtday dinner. I reserved a table with a view one day in advance with no problem. The view was amazing and we even got a little fireworks show while eating. I ordered the garlic herb tri-tip i believe and while i asked for medium rare i was informed that it was cooked whole on a loin so the meat would vary. I was not disappointed although it did not come medium rare the meat was tender and very flavorful the chorizo mashed potatoes were spicy but good. (Not for those who are not good with spice) . My GF ordered the Mar y Tierra ( Surf and turf) The lobster did not even need the butter sauce the taste alone was good. The Steak that came with her plate was the same as mine but she did get lucky with some medium rare pieces that were just as good as the medium well Tri-tip that i got. Would love to come back and try the Fish!
We were late due to traffic. When we arrived, we were told all parking next the restaurant was dedicated to valet parking and we would need to park a block away for self parking.
The employees were welcoming and friendly. The service was a little on the slow side. The food and drinks were great. The view from restaurant was spectacular.
