Celebrated our anniversary here. Fabulous city and bay views. Enjoyed the restaurant week menu. Service was attentive but not intrusive and the food was outstanding. We really enjoyed our visit.
Location is outstanding! My boyfriend and I went for a date night and got a table overseeing the San Diego skyline. Our waitress was very attentive and willing to help with any questions we had regarding the menu. My only disappointment was the food availability. I was really looking forward to trying the San Diego Restaurant Week menu, but it seems like minutes before we arrived they ran out of the Rainbow Trout a la Plancha and instead I had to get Cauliflower Al Pastor since I don't eat poultry or red meat. Nonetheless, the Cauliflower was delicious, it was well seasoned and a sizable portion.
Other than that, I highly recommend the Mussels & Clams, my boyfriend loved it! Very well flavored, the chorizo paired very well with the broth from the clams and mussels. For dessert, we had the the churros with cajeta and spiced dark chocolate, I highly recommend it. The churros were soft and well seasoned and the dip was delicious!
We made the mistake of going Saturday night during Restaurant Week. We had a reservation at 6:45 pm, and waited over 20 minutes to be seated. Once seated, the service was very very slow. I even politely commented to our server that it was not good. I then apologized to our out of town guests. Unfortunately, no one from the restaurant did, or took any steps to make it right. We ordered from the regular menu, so we got no advantage from the Restaurant Week menu. All together a less than satisfactory night.
My family and I got dinner reservations on a Saturday towards the end of Restaurant Week. When we arrived, we could see that the restaurant was hopping and the host asked if we preferred inside or outside seating; the presumption being that inside meant a wait and outside mean being seated immediately. We chose the latter, with the promise that there were heaters above (which there were) and were escorted out beyond the main seating area to what can best be described as outdoor overflow seating, probably more often used for special events. The tables were nice, but obviously special event collapsible rounds, and the chairs, while fine, were certainly not as nice as those that we saw in the "inside" space. The view, not so great; downtown was partially obscured. All three of us ordered from the special prix fixe Restaurant Week menu, an appetizer, entree, and a dessert. We added the table side guacamole and my wife ordered a margarita. The tortilla soup appetizer that we all chose was good, not great, but I was struck by the fact that it was served in plastic bowls. The tableside guacamole was indeed made tableside, as a separate staff member wheeled a special cart over to us and prepared the concoction in a large stone mocajete. The guac? Top notch! One of the top two guacs that I have ever tasted! At $16 though, I wished for a bit more if I am honest. For our entrees, our daughter and I both ordered the carne asada plate, which was fabulous. My wife ordered the trout and enjoyed it very much. For dessert, we each ordered one of the three special Restaurant Week options: pineapple buttercake, brownines tres leches, and churros. The buttercake, my choice, was fantastic, as were the churros, my wife's selection. The brownies, which appeared more like a dessert trifle, was a bit too bitter for our daughter, so she traded for churros from her mom and was very happy. My wife then finished the brownies and liked it very, very much.
Food was good. Drinks were good....Both were a little pricey. Service was not so good.
Ordered a medium plus steak and the waitress kept saying medium continuously corrected my order with her and when the steak arrived it was medium sent it back and was still not correct.
I have been to Coasterra many times with stellar results. This trip, the Ahi tostada was wet and sloppy, the yellowfin tuna was overcooked and the carne asada tough. Not one win!
Great service and food. Food is expensive but you can taste the quality and portions are large.
Restaurant Week delicious. Gorgeous views. Alot of food. Will be back.
Fantastic food and ambiance!
Food was average, prices were high for the quality. There are other restaurants I would recommend before Coasterra. Our table was broken, it swayed back and forth anytime someone leaned on it.
Incredible atmosphere. Amazing views. Awesome Guacamole. Food was good not great.
The desserts were amazing! And the fresh made guacamole is delicious
We had an awesome time! Food was amazing!
We totally enjoyed the whole fresh snapper, the ceviche and the octopus. A feast for four.
We decided to try Coasterra during restaurant week, because we both think they will put their best foot forward... We were not disappointed! Food was excellent...presentation was excellent and the atmosphere was outstanding... Patio dining on a clear night, no on shore flow or fog, with heaters above was the perfect date night ... We will take friends and family back to dine!!!
Wife and I
Overall, it was a nice experience. The view is amazing at night, and it didn’t seem like there was a bad table to be had, but outside is alway a good choice. The food was good, nothing spectacular nor anything to complain about. However, the one thing that both of us noticed were the cocktails, which definitely did not seem to be up to par; after starting with some classic margaritas, we didn’t go much further since they were already leaving much to be desired.
We got a great table at the edge for the best view. Problem was slow food service and inattentive waiter. Took way too long between starter and entree. Waiter was not checking with us or what was taking the kitchen so long so he could provide us an update.
Excellent service. Make sure to order the guac they make at your table.
Great food. Need more variety tacos. Burritos, queso (cheese dip alone), service was good, apps were good. 15 mins from convention center
Great ambiance and our server Aldo was very professional and dedicated.
Cons: restaurant week menu does not include GF options, consider making an addition. Our server offered sherbett instead which we appreciated.
Great view, okay service.. slow and didn't feel like a priority to staff. For a high end restaurant the service was poor
Ambience was awesome. View was beautiful. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Great view, great Mexican food, oysters, ceviche.
Excellent food and service. Thanks!!!
We love Cohen restaurants, but this was a flop. Very poor service and weak drinks.
We love this restaurant! Anytime we are in the San Diego area we plan our trip around us eating there! We live in North County and wish they were up here also. Great food, nice wait staff and spectacular water views!
Restaurant was not very crowded at lunch and the music was too loud. Made conversation difficult
Great waitress, very friendly and helpful with menu.
Beautiful view, incredible food, valet parking at $8USD. What more could you ask? Great wait staff who really know the food, the wine pairings and the area. Yes, you pay more but what were you looking for? Chuckle Cheese? Save up, go here and enjoy the San Diego life. My meal: $80 with tip .
Server was awesome he recommended the best dishes on the menu overall great experience we will be going back for Valentine’s Day.
View was spectacular! Good and service mediocre. Wasn't really worth the money
The most beautiful view of all of San Diego day. How could a meal possibly not be enjoyed in this glorious setting?
We attended Coasterra to celebrate my father's birthday. The food was delicious, service was phenomenal, and the view was breath taking. Overall, my father and guests had a fantastic first time experience. Thanks Coasterra! :-)
The whole birthday experience was incredible. We had a party of 16 people for brunch on Sunday the 12 and everything was exactly what I was hoping for. Especially the waitress. And all of her assistants. Excellent service, the cocktails and food. Thank you all for making it such a special 50th for my husband.
All was great. Would like to see more main entrees offered, but food was top notch.
Beautiful view, best in San Diego. Food is "meh" and service ok.
Such great times at Coasterra. We started with libations at the bar and Scott who was as funny as he was hot. When we moved into the dining room we were waited on by a delightful young man by the name of Dan. Great views, better service.
