Here on vacation. This was a recommendation from a friend. We loved it!
Service was prompt. Food delicious. Atmosphere great.
We were in town and Coast Bar & Grill was recommended by the staff at the EmbassySuites where we were staying. Definitely a great choice. Walking distance from the hotel. The food was amazing. Crab dip, raw oysters, scallops and swordfish. Presentation was award winning. Our server was on top of everything and so sweet and pleasant.
We stopped by for appetizers Sunday evening. The crab dip was a little warmer than room temperature, but decent. Shrimp cocktail were really good. Big shrimp. The bacon wrapped shrimp was ok. I kinda felt like our server didn’t really tend to us in comparison to other tables. We’d like to go back and order entrees on our next trip, but hope to have better service. The place is very cool and laid back.
Waitress was excellent.wait for food after order was minimal. Food quality as well as portion was good
We love Coast! Food and service was excellent.
Everything was OK. Nothing terrible, nothing wonderful. That was true for both the service and the food.
Coast was able to accommodate our large group well, and did a good job returning reservation messages. They went above and beyond to accommodate our party when a few extra spots were requested at the last minute. The food and service was great, all in a great location. Will be back.
Great place! Bartender went above and beyond, the food was excellent and the atmosphere is perfect.
Coast Bar and Grill is your typical run of the mill, big city restaurant with a menu that tries to please the basic dining patron. There is your typical appetizer choices of cheese sticks, tacos, or fried shrimp. Your choice of a couple of salads and a soup. For your main courses you have your basic chicken dish, beef dish, grilled fish and fried fish dish. For a restaurant that suppose to be geared towards “coast” or “seafood” it missed that mark big time. I had some fried oysters with coleslaw and french fries. My wife ordered a Caesar salad with shrimp. My oysters were fried with a very thick breading, I couldn’t tell if there was oyster meat in the dish. My French fries were clumped together in three groups. The shrimp on my wife’s salad were still translucent. With all the restaurants in Charleston, this is a forgettable place and I don’t see how it can thrive located in an alleyway, in the midst of one of the best food destinations in the nation.
Our entres were forced on us after 10 minutes of receiving appetizers. This explains my very undercooked steak. 36 bucks for a think fatty excuse for a steak. Will not return
Awful experience from start to finish. Hostess rude and clearly overwhelmed: acted like she couldn’t be bothered to deal with us. Restaurant understaffed and only saving grace was the bartender who was heroically trying to wait on people. Took two hours to get food which was overpriced and not appealing. Do NOT go here.
Service was good. Food was ok. Someone suggested it to me so probably expected to much. Probably would not go back.
We really enjoyed our meal. Both had grilled fish. Excellent! Forgot to bring salad, but otherwise very smooth.
Very enjoyable experience would go again good service
Excellent in every manner
The food was horrible. Definitely pick a better place if looking for seafood.
The service at CBG was so poor we threatened to just get up and leave. After ordering wine we waited 40 minutes to be served, appetizers took another 20 minutes, our main course took another 30 minutes. The manager apologized profusely as compensation said he'd comp our meal but didn't. We will not return.
Was not seated at reservation time, had to wait 1 hour.
We had a reservation and arrived 10 minutes early. We were told they would seat us at our reservation time. I totally understand that. However, we then waited 20 minutes *past* our reservation time. Once seated it was close to 10 minutes before we saw our wait staff. It got to the point that I really wanted to leave, but my crew was so hungry that we stayed. The food was okay. Overall we were quite disappointed because The Coast had been a favorite of ours for years, and we used to recommend it to anyone visiting Charleston. Unfortunately I don’t see us returning.
Fun environment! Good good. The live music was great and not too loud. I really enjoyed it!
My wife and I have been coming to Coast for many years. It is usually very good, but this is the second time I have gotten sick from their grilled fish. I should have known better...the swordfish had a strong smell when it was served and seemed to be a little under-cooked in the center. For a $32 entree, it should at least be fresh and properly cooked. We've recommended Coast to others, but probably not again since we'll be looking elsewhere ourselves.
The food was excellent! I had the braised grouper and asked to substitute mashed potatoes in place of the grits. We also ordered some good mixed drinks and the key lime pie was legit!
My braised grouper on cheese grits was fabulous. My friend’s seared tuna was only warm but good.
Arrived right at 5pm when they opened - cool space and friendly, efficient staff. The restaurant filled up quickly and Danielle was still able to take great care of us. The fresh shrimp, enjoyed in different preparations by our family, was amazing! My swordfish was good but paled in comparison to the shrimp. We had a fun, laid-back meal.
So happy to return to Coast! One of our favorite spots in Charleston!
Food was fair, overpriced. My dates steak was a terrible cut for ribeye. Mostly fat and connective tissue. I don’t think I’ve seen that bad of a cut of steak served before. My meal was unremarkable at best. The mussels were good and the cocktails were good. We did not complain to the server. She was really great. Overall nowhere near worth the $120 we spent. Wouldn’t go back.
Our meals were a mixed bag. I ordered the crab soup to start and braised grouper as a main course. My wife ordered a house salad and salmon. The large bowl of crap soup with chunks of crab meet was delicious. The grouper itself tasted good after scraping off the sauce but the sauce was over-whelming. It was far too rich and loaded with garlic and turned my stomach. I left everything but the grouper on my plate. I was surprised our server didn't ask about the meal. My wife's salad was crispy but contained one cherry tomato and one strawberry cut up into many pieces - thought that was a bit cheap. My wife's salmon was cooked medium as ordered and was delicious. Service was pleasant and prompt.
Overall the food was absolutely amazing and super fresh. The seafood was simply amazing.
Great food and atmosphere
Everything thing was excellent! I had the mix grill and my husband had the scallops both where cooked perfectly!
We had a party of four. Two plates were brought out then a minute later, the third. The fourth didn’t come within five minutes so we asked for management. The fourth plate came out a few minutes later (burned scallops that I couldn’t eat) and then a few minutes later, the manager who apologized for the delayed fourth. It had been served to a different table. After the “no eye contact” apology, we suggested a comp to which he said, “Are you demanding to be comped?” Our reply was it should have been offered.
These folks really know how to cook great seafood
Food was late. 45 min waiting for 1/2 dozen oysters. Crab soup was good. Had to ask for bread. Had to remind waitress to take our order for the main course. Grilled grouper was fair, butte blanc was flavorless. Mashed potatoes were lukewarm so I had to ask for some warmer ones. Wife’s Ceviche was so late that we boxed it up and left. Mgmt comped the oysters but overall pricey and disappointing. They were out of the vegetables that came with my fish so I had to get a salad which arrived with the main course.
Service was awesome! Live music was great! Food was fantastic! Definitely stop in here if you are in Charleston!
We had our girls night at the Coast and the food was amazing! From the oysters to the fish, everything was great. The drinks are very good too. Great service ! Very friendly hostesses as well as our server! Will be going back very soon!
loved our server forget his name but he was mainly a bartender w/ a man bun haha but loved him! Tuna special on fridays is the go-to move(:
The raw oysters were excellent. Pass on the fried brussel sprouts.
Jalapeño bacon wrapped shrimp had a good flavor but you couldn’t find the jalapeño.
We sat in the main dining area on the side and it seemed kind of cold and empty.
Great atmosphere. Personally didn’t like the crab dip. Ordered the salmon, cooked perfectly.
We have been going to Coast for more than 10 years and they never disappoint. The seafood is fresh and well-prepared. With covid, this was one of our first dinners since last February. The restaurant had removed several tables so there was lots of space. I felt very comfortable. Our server Riley, was helpful with oyster recommendations. We both had fried oysters. They were delicious: not too much breading and very meaty.
