lightly fried calamari and zucchini served with arrabiata sauce & aioli
chicken, limoncello, sicilian cappers
hearts of romaine, croutons, parmigiano reggiano
food was mediocre. There was nothing special to the food.
It was a fantastic evening, the food was great, the server knowledgeable, and ambiance wonderful. The gluten free pasta was awesome! And they even provided pistachio ice cream to celebrate for dessert
The vegan lasagna was good. I wouldn’t recommend caprese or pink raviolis.
Everything was delish! Service was fantastic 😊 plan to get there early to find parking or valet
My husband and I had a date night here and we were so impressed! Wonderful food, lovely atmosphere, great service. This will definitely be a place we visit again!
Overall experience excellent! I was showing my aunt and uncle around town and they both enjoyed the scratch-made pasta that Civico 1845 is well known for. Our waiter was outstanding but there was one other patron who had some long-winded complaint that held up our ability to get our check by about 15 minutes. Maybe it was too polite to indulge him? That’s a hard call but a very minor issue in the context of a wonderful evening and dinner.
It was my boyfriend’s birthday and our 15 years anniversary. Only the host acknowledged this once, our waitress and other staff did not. This is strange because I wrote in the reservation notes and I thought the restaurants would help us celebrate these events. I was wrong, there was nothing. The host seated us outside, in a corner, and I was blinded by the sun and heat for 30 mins. I asked to be reseated inside but I was told there were no seats open. I looked inside and there were at least 2-3 tables open. Ok, fine. I’ll believe that. We were offered water, however there was a dead fruit fly floating on top. Nice! I wanted to show the staff but my boyfriend did not want to start the evening off with issues, so he pour it out. The appetizer came and it was good. However, as they were clearing the dish, they took my silverware. So when my entree came, I had nothing to eat with. This evening is going great! No, not really. It was dinner time, I understand. It’s busy but by the time I got new silverware, my food was barely warm. Other tables were offered bread and pesto sauce, we were not. Only when I saw our sever drop off the paper bag to a table across the way, only then she promptly drop a bag off for our table. We were about 75% done with our entree. Thank you for thinking of us only after I noticed every table was getting this bag like 45 minutes ago. Overall this was my first and probably last time eating here. I was hoping for a special evening, since we were celebrating two happy occasions. This did not happen. The food was good but I am in little Italy, I’m sure if we had gone somewhere else the food would have been just as good but with better service. So come here for regular dinners, sure but don’t come here if you want to celebrate your birthdays or anniversary.
Food was amazing. Waitress treated experience like it was chili’s. Dropped off food and ran. Had wrong drink delivered and it took until half way through dinner to have the replaced drink that was ordered upon sitting Was hoping for more on our Anniversary. We made reservations and noted it was our anniversary and it was ignored. She never ask if we wanted another drink or anything.
Both the hostess and waiter did a great job to accommodate our reservation change requests.
Place had great reviews. Service was slow. Food portions were very small, even just basic pasta that they add to the plate is enough only for a child, not an adult. Will not be back.
Hubby is an omnivore and I'm vegan. We love that civico has a great selection for both of us. The food and service are both consistently very good.
Note: there are two locations. Each has a slightly different menu. Both are excellent.
Not what I was expecting from an Italian restaurant, my food was ok. My families salmone was good. Our waiter was great, but the receptionist was not. He claimed my reservation was not valid. When I showed him my reservation with the address to that location he said, “go to the one at banker hills” I told him it specifically read to that location. He wanted us to do an hour wait. Finally he went to go ask and said, “okay, we do have you.” I don’t think I will be back.
Amazing vegan menu, great wine, brilliant service. Loved it!
Great service! Food was carefully prepared. Very fresh and flavorful!
Love this place! Great for dinner or for drinks/apps.
amazing place, delicious vegan options, super nice people!
Food was Mediocre and service poor. Will not go again.
The food was good not great. Service was scattered and not attentive. Our first two wine choices were unavailable. Zucchini blossom starter was excellent.
Food was bland, restaurant needed a good sweep. Went to the bathroom and it also needed a cleaning.
Food didn't take too long to be served but was just warm and small portioned.
Great service and amazing vibes!! We loved the vegan options and wine list.
After a flavorful appetizer of heirloom tomato soup and stuffed eggplant, we were disappointed by the main courses. The meat in the ragu was over-cooked and rubbery, and the pasta was overdone. The vegan spinach ravioli were way too sweet.
The attendant who sat us was unfriendly and not accommodating 6/3 at 5 pm for the record.
They had 1 waiter for all 20 of indoor tables! Terribly slow service. Didn’t tip. 😞
This is always the first place we reserve when in San Diego. Excellent pasta dishes that melt in your mouth. Wonderful service.
Can't say enough about the wonderful, fresh, authentic Italian dishes. A must restaurant to visit when in town.
i think the waiter we had is the loml. also the food was good love the vegan options 💕💕
Good classic Italian with great Vegan options. I prefer the non-vegan, but tried my friends and I would actually order the Vegan Lasagna next time over non-vegan. Go figure.
Loved it. Good authentic food and right atmosphere. Was happy to talk with some fellow native Italians.
We really wanted to like Civico 1845 but this restaurant was such a disappointment. The good: home made pasta, fresh (but low grade)ingredients. The bad: spotty service, rushed preparation (undrained pasta stuck in a clump at the bottom?!) makes pasta bland and watery, no layering of flavor, just simple basic tomato sauce with no flair or love. The worst: They pressure you to tip, the server brings the computer with 3 choices and stares at you while you choose, 25%,20% or 18%. That’s it! Not cool! Also worst, the food runner literally forced our food onto the table, no where near the middle without looking at us and ran! before I could ask for a spoon. The server also forgot to put our drinks order in so we had to wait but stuff happens I guess. I would suggest a better place as many exist that are better in SD.
Everyone loved the dishes that our waiter (Marcello) recommended. It was fun sitting outside on the street. Reminded my wife and I of Italy. We would definitely go back!
Civico is always a wonderful experience. It is consistently an excellent meal with friendly service. One of the best restaurants in Little Italy!
Everything we had was delicious including the vegan gnocchi and tiramisu.
Overall disappointed with the experience. Very poor service.
Our visit at Civico was great! The service was very friendly and the food was delicious. It was very busy for the holiday weekend, but we had a fantastic time overall. The drinks were also amazing. Would 100% recommend everything that we ordered:
Negroni Al Rabarbaro
Linguine Alla Pescatora
We have dined here many times over the years but this visit was disappointing. They must of been incredibly short staffed because we were there almost 2 1/2 hours and it wasn't because be wanted to be! Everything from getting water, bread, wine, entrees and the check took at least 15 minutes. Our waiter was very nice and clearly doing his best but he paid far more attention to other tables and that was frustrating. Food was warm, not hot and even the drink my friend had-the ice was melted it must of stayed on the bar so long waiting to be sent to a table. And the sad thing was we had a friend in town and I raved about the restaurant and he footed the bill.
Found this place from a blog post had high hopes. It was disappointing. Service was excellent, but we will not be back. The pasta was terrible.
Have been to many little Italy restaurants in San Diego but this was one of the best! Ordered Calamari and Caesar salad both which were very good although, was expecting it to be a little better from such a highly rated restaurant. I got the gargenllli pasta with sausage and mushrooms and my fiancé got the pasta with prawns. The prawn dish was delicious and the pasta was fresh! My pasta was delicious as well although, the sauce was a bit rich for my taste. Overall, would recommend! :)
Food was great. Location was ideal. Gets a little busy and crowded, both in the restaurant and outside which I’m sure why service was slow. Took a long time to be greeted by our server, get drinks, order additional food. The homemade bread and pesto olive oil dip is delicious. Cocktails are excellent. The zucchini blossoms are good, and I’m not sure that they need the side of marinara. The ribeye and arugula were great. Pappardelle with short rib ragu was delicious as anticipated. Croquette was a bit I’ve cooked. Cannoli was excellent: the filling, the shell were perfect. The chocolate mouse was wonderful.
Great food and reasonably priced! My husband and I were happy with our dishes. It’s a must try in the area to add to your list!
Really really loud! The food was good but not enough options.
Great vegan options. Great food and ambience is fun and easy. Strongly recommend.
