Great setup in the igloo. Unique, fun experience. The staff was great and fun to be with.
We did a 2 1/2 hour reservation in the IGLOOs outside on the river. So very fun - what a great time. Food and drink were outstanding. Charcuterie, pate, bread and salt, grilled cheese...all fabulous! Will be going back!
Alex was an amazing server & the experience was perfect on a cold winter day
We reserved a Dome for a leisurely lunch and day drinking. Our waiter Alex and assistant "Sharky" had a great sense of humor and were very attentive. Their food suggestions were fantastic! We didn't expect to spend the full 2 1/2 hrs. but it was relaxing and delicious, with a great city and river view, so time slipped away. The food was fresh and excellent!!! I highly recommend the dome experience.
Special experience in the river walk bubble. Enjoyed small bites and good wine with some guests from out of town. Stayed very warm as the temp dropped outside. Highly recommend.
We booked a dome, and had a blast! It was cold outside, but the inside of the dome was toasty warm. There were blankets if needed, but we had our coats off inside and felt comfortable. Our service was awesome -our server checked in frequently but not an overwhelming amount. They had a speaker that we were able to hook up to our phone and play our own music. The food was one step above bar food - good, but certainly not a big meal. Wine and drinks were very good - we were welcomed with a complimentary champagne toast. I would highly recommend a dome experience if you are looking for something unique and fun.
Amazing experience !!! Want to go back ASAP!!!! The wine was great . Food good ! Maybe a few more GF options .
Had an amazing time in our river dome. The staff was super helpful and friendly. Food and drinks were very affordable so you get alot for the money spent. Would definitely reccommend to anyone.
This was a lot of fun. We went during “dome season,” which means we sat in a clear plastic dome next to the river furnished like a living room. Great food and wine.
Experience would’ve been great if there were more food options. I would suggest offering more items from the full restaurant at the Riverwalk location.
So fun for a bachelorette party brunch/lunch/day drinking. Everyone was in from out of town and we wanted to do something with a cool Chicago vibe for the afternoon, but it was the beginning of April and we didn't want to freeze. (River/lake cruise when it's 33 degrees? No thanks.) The igloos are right on the riverfront, heated, awesome food + fun cocktails, really cute decor, flawless service, super Instagrammable ;) A highlight of our weekend for sure.
The night was great! We rented a bubble and as we were waiting they brought us champagne! The bubble was beautifully decorated and spacious! It was warm too with the heaters we weren't cold at all! They even had socks in case you do get chilly! The service was excellent our waitress was very attentive! Food was awesome we tried almost everything haha loved the burrata!! Highly recommend!!! All around a perfect night
Great service and loved the view! Already reserved another one before end of season. Food wasn’t the greatest, but everything else was perfect!
The outdoor igloo was a fun and interesting experience but I would not go again.
Pros: SItting in an igloo was unique and sounded cool. It was pretty. The wine was excellent. The food (snacks, don't go here for dinner) was amazing.
Cons: It was cold, the igloo was worse for wear and did not zip up well. Our space heater turned off several times at the start. The furniture was not that comfortable.
The servers were very nice and gave us a free carafe of wine since we had so many problems with our space heater (the city was doing work).
This was my third wine dome, and the worst by far,
Our zipper was broken to enter the dome, so we were freezing all night, despite having having a heater inside.
The staff offered to find blankets ( that have always been there in past experiences), and apparently forgot about it.
Other tents had games, as ours did in the past, and there were none.
Overall, this experience is slippery severely,
Quite expensive for an overall lacklustre experience. I would have preferred less time for a lower minimum. $25 per person just to reserve the dome seems a little high.
Went to City Winery at the Riverwalk to sit in the dome on a double date the Friday after Thanksgiving. We got super lucky that it was 60 degrees out. All and all, we had a blast. It was warm enough and very comfortable in the domes. They are set up super cute. They bring you a bluetooth speaker to connect to your phone, so the dome part is great. The food was perfect. We shared a few plates, didn't want to over eat. All yummy, and perfect for what we wanted. Wine and drinks were great too. Our service was a little weird, however. When we got there, we got escorted right to our dome, and our server was very attentive. It did take a long time for each round to come out. By the time he walked to us, took the order, walked back, put it in the computer, and the bar could catch up, it would be about 15 minutes. At one point, we were without any drinks or food for about 25 minutes. You have 2.5 hours, and have to spend about $100/person, so the service is very important. With the logistics of everything and the back and forth, it's tough for the service to be quick. I probably would have given 5 stars all around if our service was better, but I think 4 stars is appropriate. I would do it again and recommend to a group of friends.
Reserved the dome. It is not as warm as they make it out to be as the dome is not air tight. Our dome had a cold draft... although you start to forget it about it once you have a few drinks! Otherwise, had a great time!
The service was great and the experience was amazing. However the food was mediocre - we ordered the artisanal cheese plate and mezze plate, which were delicious. But the crab ravioli was watery and the pork loin was very fatty and tough. The dessert was also good and the mulled wine was a nice touch. It was expensive overall, but worth it for the experience. I wouldn’t recommend it as a regular thing, but worth it to try it once.
I think our server was intoxicated but other than that we had a blast :)
There was a group of 8 of us celebrating my birthday. The river dome was such a welcoming and warm environment. There was even a stereo for music! The service was great and we had an exceptional time.
Great setting! Service was a little spotty as it seemed to only be one waitress working, and we had to track her down by going outside to get her to come inside so we could order. We were also promised games that were not delivered until 20 minutes before we were kicked out.
Service is fantastic but the food is not great. Eat first and then go for the drinks, location, and novelty.
I rented the river dome for my birthday. I had an amazing time. I thought it was the perfect setting, very cozy, cute, and warm. The vibe was perfect. It was probably the best birthday I've spent in years. The only downfall was I thought it was very pricy especially since all the food was more of a shareable plate then entree. Would I do this again though? Most definitely!
This place was fantastic! I am that one friend that finds something exciting and makes everyone do it. Every person that came in my group loved this place. The ambiance, the welcome toast with bubbles, to the luxury of having our own music and being able to choose our music when we feel. Hanna was our server and had fun with us each time she came in and checked up on us.
Dinner took a little longer than expected but we all didn't even realize it. The manager automatically came in and addressed the issue. Apologized to us and we told him it is absolutely fine! We all work in the industry so we understand if an issue comes up. There was only one cook on at the time. For one cook to have two globes or more. He did a great job.
Thank you City Winery for helping us create some great memories! We are already planning our group of 20+ because of the amount of response from our friends and their friends. Can't wait to go again!
Dome should be more clean, was not tacked down all the way so the wind was blowing in so the 1 small portable heater that they placed inside was not good enough. PLEASE CLEAN INSIDE THE DOMES.
We had a great time in the dome! Such a perfect afternoon.
Our experience in the dome was fantastic. The service was wonderful, the view was fantastic. I saw a lot of reviews complaining about the food for the price, which I could understand, the food wasn’t 5 stars. But I knew going into this I was paying for the experience, view and wine.
Our server, Sarah, went above and beyond! I forgot one of my phones and she called right away! The dome was so gorgeous inside! We got t-shirts, gift cards, etc! This was a great time! There were fireworks, weather was good, food was great! Will be returning!!
After work gathering. The dome experience was so cool and worth the effort to reserve it. We were lucky to enjoy a fireworks display too!
Reservations were for Sunday at 630pm
Server had to come back and ask two of us for different entrees TWICE because both times we ordered they ran out, so essentially 2 of us had to order a 3rd time
1 of our orders came with sauce when asked for none since one of us is lactose intolerant
Half the desserts were unavailable
Had we known all those 4 entree items would be unavailable, plus half the desserts, we would not have chosen to dine here and loose the $100 nonrefundable rental fee for 4 of us
I had to leave the dome to find our server to correct bill from an entree that was not available
Only 1 of 3 lights in dome was working
For almost $100 per person, I didn’t think what was remaining of our food choices was worth the $. We paid almost $100 per person for the ambiance of the river, 1 beverage, mediocre food, and to play Cards of Humanity for 2.5 hours
While it was great to sit on the river and have a drink in a very unique dome setting, this experience is not worth the cost. The food was not good (cold and served oddly), and you will spend at least $85 a person to sit in the dome and have a glass of wine.
Had a so much fun doing the "wine dome" on the Riverwalk. City Winery provided great service, including games and a speaker for our dome. I would definitely recommend this to any group.
My first time dining there and will probably never go back. I've been three for drinks and it is nice but the dining experience was not good at all.
Only good thing was service, the servers and waitress tried their best but the place is not prepared for more than drinks by the river.
I rented the dome for 8 people since I had a friend visiting from London and I was embarrassed for taking him and my friends there.
The dome doesn't fit 8 people, 5 the most, the extra 3 people had to seat in very uncomfortable chairs that were brought last minute.
We got three at 7 pm and they had already ran out of almost all the main plates, they only had appetizers and sandwiches. The only main dish left on the menu was a very dry and non taste gnocchi.
Very disappointed since my experience at their Randolph location was always great.
This review is specifically about the "dome" experience. Love this location and the service has been great on every visits. However, the seasonal dome rentals - while a cool idea -- need to be much better executed for the cost. This was an extremely expensive experience for such a limited wine list and menu. The quality of the food ranged from mediocre to bad. CW should either adjust its prices and improve the presentation, or figure out a better menu for what they are able to serve out of their small kitchen. The dome interiors could also be a lot more comfortable with minimal effort.
While I was quite excited to get a reservation for this unique opportunity to experience the domes on the river, I was less than impressed with the actual experience. Our waiter immediately offered us a wine option without even finding out what our preferences, fortunately it was something we liked. But were left wondering..why would you do that. Being that there is a fee of $25 per person and a minimum spend of $60 per person, I am still confused about that pricing. The very limited menu of sandwiches and salads costing $10-18...does not coincide with this idea; other than wanting you to drink $60 worth of value. The General Manager stopped by our table, and thank us. He mentioned that the idea behind the dome was a "camping" experience...I wish I had know that before coming. Perhaps that should be included in their marketing, as it would have completely changed my desire to make the reservation. The menu is otherwise very limited and the options available are not of the quality I would expect. Given that is was an unusually warm evening...the dome itself was also extremely hot. They provided us several fans which were of little help, as there are some inherent challenges to sitting in a plastic bubble. Now that I have had the experience...I can say I did it...would I do it again, absolutely not.
