We've loved Citrus since it first opened prior to the fire. We found the new menu limited and what we ordered having less flavors than the original Citrus. Same ambiance and good service.
The food and service are outstanding. However the chairs are extremely uncomfortable as commented by 4 of 6 of my guests. Nothing else matters if you are uncomfortable!
The food is well prepared but portions are very small and I’m not a ‘big eater’. The beet salad special was not a salad. Maybe 6 small beet slices , mozzarella, some type of greens, arranged as separate bites. Certainly, not a salad. The pea and preserved lemon risotto was served in a small bowl. Nice taste but I would have liked to enjoy more.
Loved it!! The new menu is outstanding!! We both had the new menu item Virginia Flounder, which has become my new favorite!!
Have waited so long for this restaurant to reopen after the fire. It was worth the wait! The food was fabulous, and I even had my favorite waiter Harry! Can’t wait to go back again!
We were so glad Citrus opened again. And were not disappointed on our first return visit. My spring pea salad appetizer was excellent - a refreshing dish. ( I could have been happy with it entree size as my main course it was so good.) And the scallops were done perfectly. My husband had the capellini with shrimp and loved the fresh lemony flavor. Even though it was busy we had a fun attentive waiter named Paul. He had good recommendations re the wine. We were drinking by the glass and he nailed what the individual wine drinkers were looking for with his suggestions. So so happy that Citrus and Chef Scott are back!
Food was small portions, expensive, crab salad lacked flavor and was watery, veal meatballs tough and needed bread(which had to be ordered at extra charge. Drinks were disappointing and watery. One glass of wine that was ordered never came. We were very disappointed because had been eager to try after reopening. There was much confusion about our reservation which was made thru Open Table.
The place felt as if the management had changed. The drinks were delayed, some plastic accidentally in an appetizer and they ran out of menus. All strange and they should have comped the whole dinner.
Only 2 small shrimp in Shrimp entree
Very limited menu
Was much better before fire closed this restaurant
The capellini with Flounder dish was fabulous. We look forward to a more expanded menu and HH but understand they will come in good time. We had a delightful and delicious evening!
We had an enjoyable evening at Citrus Grillhouse but I wouldn't call it exceptional. Sitting on the veranda and watching the waves come in was probably the most exhilarating part of our evening. Food was good, not amazing. Servers were very accommodating and pleasant but the best part of the dinner was, definitely, the view. I am a little critical because I'm a former restaurant owner of nine.
We were outside on the deck and it was lovely. Food was delicious and service was great!
Two couples had dinner. The food was very good. It was noisy. It was expensive. An entree of flounder over noodles with 6 cherry tomatoes was $37. No salad. No bread offered. Would be a better ambience if outdoor overlooking the ocean.
Loved the new menu. The pea salad was fantastic! Cod was outstanding! Service was attentive and impeccable.
So glad they are open. The pea green salad and cod were outstanding!
Citrus reopened only about 2 weeks ago. We have since been there 2 x for dinner.
A very few reopening kinks are still being worked out; but we were and are so impressed. The physical plant is a definite improvement - lighter color walls, floors - expansion of indoor bar; acoustically so much better. Foodwise - the menu has almost entirely changed - reviewing both night my husband and I were there - We loved the sheishedo (sp?) roasted peppers, hummus and the crab wraps. The strip steak cooked as requested and delicious flavor, the waygu beef with exotic mushrooms - a splurge in cost but worth it for a special treat - buttery, mouthwatering and the mushrooms in sauce Wow! Service great - a server we have had here for years is excellent in every way -a plus -she checks in on you without being intrusive. Negatives: first night - the shrimp cocktail -blah tasting and the poached cod in broth - too much coconut milk - recipe for both of these just needs tweaking. Love it here - Welcome back.
First time back since the reopen. Expectations were high and destroyed by the results! The menu was limited, the service was terrible, food was not cooked and it was only pasta. How hard is that? Had a reservation and when we got there the place was empty. Okay we were 5:15, early diners. Tried to stick us by a pole in the middle of the room. Major struggle to get moved.. And the place did not start to fill up until we were paying our bill. Overpriced! $23.00 for a very small bowl of linguini.... We were regulars before the fire/smoke damage. Not any more.....
8 o’clock Monday reservationWhen arrived place was dead, few eaters left. When we finished main course we were told no desert option kitchen had closed (at 9). That was a first. Wow. Realize Monday but told after fact no desert. Pretty poor standard.
Menu was very limited and unimpressive
Salads small & overpriced
$4.00 for bread but no butter or olive oil was offered
Strip steaks were excellent
It’s unfortunate that the noise level and ambiance were not improved upon during the after fire renovation
This venue appears to be one where you got to see & be seen and cannot expect a gourmet dining experience
This was once my favorite restaurant. I took my mom who hadn’t been out in awhile as she is 83 and confined. It used to be our favorite restaurant. And they just reopened. I’d recommend going after they get their act back together. Don’t go to the Citrus yet. Bad menu changes. Very small portions. They didn’t have enough paper menus. And the ones we got weren’t fresh. 2 dishes were not clean. And they stated they were “sold out” of a Sauvignon Blanc! On a paper menu they should update. Although they dampened the noise it is still very loud. My mom and her veal steak wasn’t good. My brother had 3 scallops and the weren’t large. My Virginia Flounder was really good. They charge 4$ for mediocre bread. And you’ll need it with the portion size. The only one satisfied out of 3! Bring back the haystack salad and the blue cheese endive and I’ll know you’ve listened.
So happy Citrus is open again! Lots of staff to assist and make your experience wonderful! Out on the patio or inside it’s fresh and lovely!
We will be back!
Great Food !
Great Location !
Great Ambience !
We made it back to Citrus after their hiatus. Most of it was very good. Our server, Sean was lackluster at best. There were only two of our familiar favorites left since the last time - Eve and Vern. Service was attentive enough but certainly nothing special. We each had appetizers. My husband had the shrimp cocktail which was ridiculous for the price - two shrimp and a little sauce - for $16. I had the bacon appetizer - ONE strip of bacon (albeit a thick strip) for $12 - ridiculous. our entrees were exceptionally tasty but scant at best - I am a small eater so It was fine for me but we had to head to a an additional place for my husband. Some improvements were the dessert menu which featured actual normal sized desserts instead of those morsels previously offered. Another sweet surprise - actual espresso - after 8 some odd years we were actually able to enjoy a good (although lukewarm) cup of espresso. We won't write the place off as the food was good. However, it is ridiculous to have an upscale restaurant with no bread offering . Also, we have been going as regulars since the restaurant's opening and have NEVER had the owner Scott speak to us - we know he knows how we are - as we average about 4 to 7 visits a month. Whoever said he is only courteous to his friends in a previous review - was spot on.
Don't know where some of these negative reviews come from but our experience last night was lovely:
1. Service: teaming with bus and waiters alike. Friendly and attentive
2. Food: unless the restaurant has changed it's plates from earlier serving sizes, I can only say that those who claim to have gone away hungry due to small portions are gluttons! I didn't have an app or salad - only some of my husbands truffle fries (delish) and couldn't finish my cod (also delicious). Husband had steak tartar to start - very tasty and huge! And he couldn't finish his entree - flounder - either)
3. Noise: Yes .....but added to the energy and ambiance.
All in all a very nice evening - we will return. Good for you Citrus, to come back as a Phoenix rising!
Perfect night. So glad to have Citrus back !!! Fabulous all around. Fab food. Fab staff!
The peppers appetizer and beet salad were outstanding. I had the flounder and it was really good.
My husband has the pasta and it was ok.
I wish there were more fish selections. I always loved getting the swordfish there.
Desserts were limited as well. Wish they had the three chocolate desserts on a plate like they did before.
Service was excellent!
Drinks were very nice!!
Still one of my favorite places in Vero Beach!!!
We are sure they will be fine but Servers a little untrained yet. However very friendly and accommodating.
Don’t think We ever got a martini with no olives, And don’t think plates should be cleared until everyone is finished.
Pretty noisy for an expensive restaurant.
Food was exceptionally good. Pea salad was inspired. But 2 shrimp with the pasta? 🙄
I ordered the fresh pea salad to start which was truly far too small to really enjoy. The flounder entree however was excellent!!
I look forward to returning to Citrus in the future.
Happy to have Citrus among our on-the-island restaurant selections. It has been sorely missed! Congrats, Scott!
Was very excited that Citrus was reopening but came away somewhat disappointed. Menu is too limited, but I was told it will expand. My shrimp pasta dish had very little flavor. Pea salad excellent. Still too noisy. I felt that unless you are one of the chef’s friends, they don’t care about you very much.
We love Citrus and are so happy it reopened. The food and service is even better than before
Table was ready. Food was very good and on time and staff were very attentive
The food was excellent. Best in show for many of the dishes.
Newly renovated restaurant is still too noisy.
Food portions were fine but looked very small on the large plates used. Peanut salad was bland and very difficult to eat. Take it off the menu.
The food was so overpriced for what you got. Tiny portions for an entree or appetizer. We were still starving when we left and paid a lot. The dining room was very noisy. Not a nice ambience. This was definitely a one and done.
Fun place to be. However, still quite noisy.
Missed the Fries provided last year in place of the usual bread. As a matter of, no bread was offered.
My salad (fresh peas etc) was very good but disappointingly small.
I’d still go back but my expectations will be lower.
Great spot overlooking the ocean! Try to snag a porch table, the ocean view and breeze is lovely. Inside used to have a reputation for being noisy and that has been addressed so that it is much better. The food is very good, however a little pricy for being Vero Beach and not Miami or NYC. The head chef and owner is a wonderful guy and you will see him making the rounds!
Took my mom to celebrate her 70th bday. Was very disappointed. Menu is extremely limited and even worse paid $30 for an entree that was capellini and shrimp and there were only 2 shrimp as the meal. We both left hungry and went to get something else to eat at a different establishment. Dont mind paying money for a good meal but dont expect to leave hungry afterwards. Would not recommend.
delicious and a very nice menu--would definitely go back
