Our food was good, service was way below average. We were a party of 2, one person’s food order arrived 10 minutes before the other. Drinks (including water), which were ordered before food, arrived 5 minutes after all food, when we asked for them. No one checked on us during meal. Food was very good, but way overpriced given the service we had.
Some of the dishes are too spicy. I need to eat the mild dishes.
Fantastic food! Great authentic Indian restaurant, with a modern feel to it.
Food consistently good. Bathroom is consistently gross
Insouciant. No regard to get folks seated. No serving water till asked for (15 mins after being seated). No interest in taking the order. I think the only reason this place runs is because of the decent food they serve. Lack of hospitality is cringeworthy.
We made reservations but we asked to stay seated at the bar when we arrived early. We enjoyed some conversation with the manager who also helped serve us. We enjoyed some great cocktails, and specialties on the menu. I particularly liked the inclusion of Thali (essentially sampler platters) options on the weekend. They are clear about what food is spicy and what is mild. They do not hold back on the spicy! Everything was well-presented cuisine but it was relaxed. We asked if we could bring our kids next time and they were happy that people want to bring them more. With that said, it was certainly a fancier place than any buffet, but the quality of the food was well worth it, and our hosts were good to get along with.
Very good Indian food! Everyone at our table loved their dishes. Nice atmosphere, good service and value.
Very good food with a long and divers menu. Good list of beers (not only Indian). Very good service. Has both indoors and outdoors options. Wood recommend the place where you can have a pleasant evening whil enjoying your food
Haven’t been in more than 3 years- and we were unsure whether it would live upto our previous experiences- and it did, and then some!
Food was delicious- authentic without being over the top. Spicy, in a natural, balanced way. Service was excellent. Overall experience was outstanding!
We tried the lamb chops this time....wow couldn’t stop saying how savory, tender just so delicious! We’re are never disappointed coming here!
Good fine for the occasion.
Excellent food, good service, but a bit too loud for comfortable conversation.
Great evening on the patio. Food and craft beer on tap were terrific. Adjacent parking is an added plus
Great food! There is a reason why this restaurant is said to have the best Indian food in town. Worth every penny.
This was our first time having South Indian food. The tartlet appetizers (I can’t remember the Indian name for it) were delicious and a big portion. We then had chicken curry which was spicy which we like was very good and eggplant in tomato sauce. It came with giant pieces of naan. The street fried rice was our favorite. We will be back to try other entrees and appetizers.
Excellent start to finish
The waiter suggested dishes based on what we had last visit . They were delicious . The mixed drinks were great
The food has so much flavor, the desert was spectacular
The service was unmatched
Can’t wait to go back
And the price low for the quality and amount of food we had.
Love this place! Come here any time I have an excuse for a nice dinner!
Very limited parking, took 15 mins for someone to greet us at our table and bring waters, waiter was sweating profusely, prices too high for quality, didn't get enough rice with our entres and they tried to charge us extra for more rice when we requested it. Over all a poor experience and will not be returning there.
Food was delicious. Large portions.
Had a reservation at 7pm on a busy UNC graduation weekend. At 7:25pm we were offered free drinks for the delay which were greatly appreciated. Ended up being seated at 7:40. Very good Indian food. Will be back.
A delicious Lamb Saag and garlic Naan! Would definitely go back again when in the area.
We've been a fan of Cholanad for a long time, but our latest dining experience at the restaurant might be our last. The food was okay but not nearly as good as it was, and the best we can say about the service is that it was uninspired. Clearly our waiter was either having a bad day, or simply doesn't like what he is doing. Non-alcoholic beverage options are extremely limited; there is no hot tea served at all.
Service was quick and the plates were really excellent. They made my dish spicier than normal when I asked and they hit the mark.
Lovely dinner. We had the Samosa and also goat apps. The Samosa app was superior and unlike any we've ever had. Out entree was a mussel curry. Also quite unique and very good. We'll be returning.
The food was average relative to other Indian cousins restaurants in the area. The service was just ok, nothing out of the ordinary. In summary, this was an average dining experience for a friday night.
Had samosas for an appetizer and fish mango red curry with nan for a main course. Both were delicious! Attentive service as well. We were there early and it was very quiet then, so I’m not sure what it would be like later in the evening with more customers.
Great food, excellent and fast service - this is our go to restaurant in chapel hill
Great food, reasonable pricing and great location to UNC Chapel Hill.
South Indian food. I was pleased with the subtle flavors. We ordered a variety of dishes to share. We'll be back!
Great food and service!
The food was really yummy. I'm not an expert on Indian food, but I enjoyed the diverse, multilayered, and distinctly different flavors in every bite. Quantities we're plentiful enough for us to share an entree after the sampler appetizers and naan. Service is a bit hit and miss, but with good intentions and a sincere effort to please. Be adventurous.
Absolutely amazing food and service. Will definitely be going back.
We had a lovely meal before a concert. We selected this restaurant from the website and from on-line reviews. And we enjoy Indian cuisine. The service was calm, not rushed. The food was fresh, tasty and lovely. The Masala Navratan Tartlets were outstanding - so flavorful! I would highly recommend Cholanad to family and friends.
Wish there was a Winston-Salem location.
Curry dish was great - seafood dish had too much salt...
Waiter was missing in action.
I've eaten here a few times. Service has been consistently excellent. Almost every food item has been wonderful as well and would justify 5 stars. Every entree has been awesome, the crepe like wraps, the chili chicken, and curry pots are a highlight.
Some of the appetizers we ordered at our last visit were on the bland side, even the accompanying sauces were rather mild.
Good food, but tables are too close together for private conversation.
The food was delicious and the service was great!
It was the night of the Super Bowl, and therefore not many diners. Our server, Jarrett, was excellent. He was the highlight of the meal. One diner thought a "mild" entree was a bit too spicy, but everyone else was very pleased.
Wonderful Southern Indian dining experience, lots of interesting dishes, knowledgeable server, the Manager stoped at our our table twice. Highly recommend this wonderful restaurant!
Excellent wine & drink list.
Good Indian food and it’s nice to have access to a full menu at lunch rather than a buffet.
