My fiancé' birthday
Great interesting dishes. Awesome service. Nice atmosphere. Expensive for the portion size but expected. You won’t go home full, but you also won’t be hungry. Would be great for valentines or an anniversary dinner
The four-course Anniversary menu and the five-course menu were outstanding. Complex tastes and textures, varied course by course. Nicely served at a leisurely pace. Chef Mavro (the man, not the eponymous restaurant) was very welcoming as well.
Excellent food and service perfect for a celebratory evening with friends. Flavors, presentation, and taste were outstanding. Each course wowed! We will be back!
Exceptionally delicious dining in a less than a mile from Waikiki.
Definitely a great neighborhood gem!
Exquisite food in courses with thoroughly enjoyable wine pairings. Service was perfect and friendly. Delightful surprises in local favorites. Every course flavorful, balanced, and aromatic.
Outstanding combination of French technique with fresh Pacific ingredients. Elegant and friendly service. The wine pairing is intelligent and tasty. We picked the 4 course menu so we could order the onaga supplement, it was quite possibly the best fish we've ever had. A lovely place for a birthday dinner.
The Chef’s Grand Menu was amazing. The service very professional. Highly recommended.
we came here for my aunt’s birthday, everyone got the 4-course prix fixe and i got the wine pairings with each course. it was absolutely delicious! the atmosphere is very intimate and quiet, it’s definitely a unique experience dining here. we had donato as our server, he was very nice and knowledgeable on everything. the connoisseur who poured the wine with each course was very informative on each of the wines. they even brought out a custom happy birthday dessert for my aunt at the end which was very special! since this is more of a special occasion destination, i don’t foresee myself coming here very often but i definitely would come again! highly recommend.
I hated the initial decision at check in to decide between which course menu you wanted to eat - this decided on where you sat in the restaurant. It was really off putting and not a nice intro to the place. We did the 5 course with matching wines and honestly we were disappointed. The dessert was by far the most disappointing part - fruit was not ripe and it was not enjoyable. The food was nice - but there wasn’t a wow factor for us. And we spent $500 which is a lot of money! There was no cocktail menu as they prefer the pairing wine option - but it’s strange if you want to sit at the table and have a drink first - so we ordered a glass of champagne - which was $25! If you didn’t pair the wines - the wine list was very unimpressive. I don’t think there were more than 10 different wines on the menu. There is a lot of competition in Waikiki and we wouldn’t return back to this restaurant.
Outstanding, 5 star level food and service. All staff was professional and knowledgeable regrading the amazing menu.
Service was excellent and the food was good.
A classy restaurant with various dishes that were carefully prepared and unique. Mavro helps the local growers by using their products. Excellent service provided by waiters who explained every dish. Pricey, but good to spend special occasions there.
We were impressed by everything done here. The service was incredible and the food was incredible as well. This is a must go if you are in the area.
The food was delicious - we did the 5-course tasting menu, which I'd highly recommend. The service was attentive and friendly. I had two minor issues with our night. First was the segregation of diners depending on menu selection - if you did the 9-course menu, you sat in a different location in the restaurant - which I'm not complaining about, but it was how it was presented. As soon as we entered the restaurant, we were shown two menus and asked to make the decision immediately so they would know where to seat us. It was a little off-putting as the first thing after walking in. And why does it really matter where people sit? Secondly, we did the wine paring with the tasting menu. In general the wine was just OK - I've experienced much better pairings elsewhere. Further, the waiter pouring the wine didn't seem to really know much about the wine. It was clear that someone else had put the pairing together and he was just serving the wine and couldn't provide any explanation as to why a particular wine was paired with a particular dish. These critiques may be a bit petty, but when you're comparing to other high-end restaurants, these are the things that make a difference.
I had my birthday at Chef Mavro, and the food and service was amazing!
Lovely birthday dinner and romantic spot to unwind over fabulous food and wine. The lamb was our favorite dish although hard to choose a favorite dish among the full menu options including lobster, foie, and so much more. The portions were just right and the pace leisurely. The attention to detail, attentive, but relaxed service made this a bright spot in a long week. The special birthday dessert was a perfect way to end the evening.
First exposure to Chef Mavro was almost 30years ago at LaMer in the Halekulani...wife and I went back on 9/11/2018:
Service was great
Food was good
Portions were SMALL!
$55 for risotto that was a small ladles worth!
Spent over $500 and left still hungry.
Much respect for Chefs culinary skills but he needs to revisit entrepreneurship 101...everything was a pre-fix option; some people want a meal with portions that have substance.
Overall I felt like I went to a concert to see a great band, but it was at the county fair.
Chef Marvo is as good as any Michelin Starred restaurant at which I have eaten. The food is highly creative and offers a French take on local cuisine. The Chef made time to great us during our meal, and the wait staff was attentive and knowledgeable. The Chef also was flexible in accommodating my dietary restrictions in altering his fixed menu.
Great atmosphere, delicious food, very professional waiters
Excellent "seasonal -quarterly"
4, 5, & 7 course diner service.
Chef Mavro maintains a sophisticated & high level offering.
The food was fantastic !!
This one of the most outstanding Restaurants in Hawaii today. I have eaten here 3 times, each of them just as special. For reference, I dined at Joel Robuchon, Aureole, Michel Rostang, Taillevant, Suhring, Gaggan, Le Bec Fin and many others. Chef Mavro belongs on the list with all of them. A master at his craft. The meal was superb. The chef came out of the kitchen midway through our meal to greet us. Always a joy. The wine pairing was equally lovely, but would have liked one or two more reds, but that would have necessitated some other menu options, so I understand.
Creative, inspirational cuisine and attentive service. Fabulous tasting menus. Interesting wine pairings. Chef Mavro is a superstar. Highly recommended.
Always a wonderful place to celebrate our anniversary! If you get the wine pairings, it’s best to Uber!
Chef Marvo's is comparable to most Michellin Starred restaurants I have visited in the San Francisco Bay Area. The food quality was amazing, extremely clean, technical cooking, and the fresh ingredients were clearly highlighted.
Service: The service was very efficient, thorough, and professional. Though I did not have a chance to chat with the wait staff much, they saw to our needs without fail and often without any request from the table. Food's timing was a little off (some of the wait felt a little "extra")
Ambiance: Think professional classy restaurant yet still laid back and casual. The ambiance manages to convey an experience of elegance without making the diner worry about being "under-dressed"... an amazing balance for the location and general culture.
Value: The prices are not "cheap", but are very clearly in line with what is normal considering the food quality, ingredient freshness, and overall cooking technique. Expect to spend ~150 without wine and 200 with wine per person.
Food: I am very impressed with the food. The salt crusted fish was amazing, especially with tableside service by the chef himself. Diver scallops were cooked to perfection, lamb medallions had a perfect sear and texture, and every single dish was clean, extremely technically cooked, and had an amazing consistency throughout. Although some flavors were not my personal style (not used to seaweed butter), you could see, feel, and taste the exact standards in which every dish was presented and prepared. Even if my personal flavor preferences were different, I loved the passion and care each dish was prepared with (seen through the cooking and the chef's presentation of his dishes).
The best meal we had in Honolulu. The whole fish was the best I ever had. It was a special moment when Chef Mavro came out and served us the whole fish.
What a special place! Chef Mavros is the best fine dining experience in Hawaii. The menu is the most creative and excellent use of local ingredients we have ever tasted. Each dish is special. This time we feasted on the river scallops, onaga and lamb loin. Portions are perfectly sized for a tasting menu and each plate is a work of art. And the wine pairings work very well with food. Service is excellent without being stuffy. This experience is well worth the price.
Amazing, as always. Congratulations on all your success, so well deserved! Mahalo for a wonderful birthday celebration.
Great high end, award winning, fine dining!
Not a place for kIds under 10.
Was a very memorable meal with my 91 year old chef uncle. Chef Mavro is up there with the best restaurants I have had the pleasure to dine at world wide. Met the chef at the end of the meal which is a dying art and was much appreciated. Our wait staff could not do enough for us thank you 😀
The food and wine were absolutely amazing. One of the best meals I’ve ever had!
Outstanding food and drink menu selections. Gracious but attentive service.
Nous avons passé un excellent moment en dînant chez chef mavro-son poisson en croûte de sel est une merveille, sa carte des vins est d’un très bon niveau et il nous a été réservé un accueil adorable. Nous y retournons dès notre prochain voyage à Honolulu
An exceptional restaurant, an exceptional dining experience: one of my favorite restaurants in the world. Foie gras to die for! Onaga simply tasting superb! I will be back soon.
The 5-course Summer menu is a real winner! We’ve dined at Chef Mavro many times over the years - always enjoyable - but we’d rate this menu, with wine pairings, one of the best!
Thanks for the great food and great atmosphere.
A foodies paradise
My husband and I had an incredible meal at Chef Mavro while we were on our honeymoon. It was an incredible treat! The food, the wine pairings, and the service were all exceptional.
When one goes to Chef Mavro you can be certain to have a lovely presented small course dinner, exceptional service & great wine pairings. From the summer menu, only the foie gras disappointed us, as the sweet aspic layer over powered the foie gras mousse.
Nice touch that Mrs. Mavro came over to introduce herself.
Everything was delicious, from the first bite to the last. We enjoyed the seasonality of the ingredients as well as the Chef's use of them.
