Fairly priced full tasting menu, excellent experience. A must for Hawaiian fine-dining! Can’t wait to see this place evolve— decor stuck in decades past, too empty for a Friday evening.

This was a fabulous meal! Service was perfect--friendly and attentive without ever being pushy or overbearing. The variety of food was amazing, as were the combinations of flavors and textures. Wines were expertly paired to each course, and they had a nice selection of non-alcoholic specialties as well. This was easily the best meal I've had in Hawaii, and one of the best of my life! Thank you, Chef Mavro, for a spectacular experience!
Highlight was Chef personally presenting his famed onaga dish which was outstanding.
Too much qualitative difference between 4 and 6 course tasting menus. Go big or go home.
Wine pairings on six course were not impressive. Uneven. Was looking for buildup along with courses from light to a full bodied red for the last course lamb.
Lobster course was chewy.
Onaga was outstanding.
This remains the best fine dining restaurant in Honolulu. Yes, Chef Mavros lacks the ocean view of a La Mer, but we find the quiet dining room to be a serene change, a place completely outside the bustle of Waikiki. The innovation and the elegance of the food and the quality of the service is really unmatched. Nowhere in Hawaii do you find local ingredients prepared in such outstanding ways. Everything that comes out of the kitchen is perfect, in flavor, in ingredients, in presentation. The seafood bourride was the best we’ve ever tasted, a light velvety sauce covering a beautiful piece of perfectly-steamed island fish. The coq au vin was simply elegant, small pieces of excellent poultry with just a touch of sauce. And the risotto with truffles melted in the mouth. As always, we enjoyed the wine pairings. The Mavro team knows exactly what wines enhance their food and the food, likewise, enhances the wines. Yes, we know that the price will be higher than that of most restaurants. But Mavros is a special place and we’ll worth it.

Wonderful food, wonderfully involved chef. Come ready to eat -but also to smell! THe food is so much about the scent, and the scents are amazing, and unique! So delightful to have a chef who likes interacting with guests as well.
If you are ready for a party of a variety of well-balanced texture and flavors, you should come here! Very pleasant dining experience and love the island snapper presentation by Chef Mavro! Highly recommended!

Personal service received from Chef Mavro & his lovely wife, as well us very attentive staff. Lucky for us, it was Australian truffle season & we paid $50 more for Chef Mavro to shave the lovely black truffles on my risotto. Risotto was served al dente but I would have preferred it be more moist with sauce.
Excellent food, well prepared, great flavor combinations with excellent service.
Mavro himself was in the dining room which was a big plus.
Mandatory pre fixe menu is not a good value as some dishes weren’t so great.
We chose the 4-course menu ($95/person) based on the course descriptions.
The chickpea pancake with vegetables was good, not great.
The foie gras parfait was a mousse with a sweet, jello-like wine layer. It was good but a let down that it was in mousse form.
The wagyu dish was good although it consisted of small strips of meat and breadfruit.
Fortunately, we ordered the two optional courses as we were unsure the serving sizes would suffice: A $70/2 person salt crust baked snapper, which was good but very salty, and we shared the $40 chanterelle risotto, which was the highlight of the entire meal.
Service was very good.

Overall, the experience was what I imagined it would be. The course tastings, along with the add-ons (the risotto and Onaga) were spot on, as were the wine pairings. Worth every penny spent.

Amazing anniversary dinner on Oahu. The waitstaff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Chef came to speak to us, which was a lovely bonus! We had the 5-course tasting menu and everything was perfect.
Guests at our table agreed that the onaga baked in a salt crust was the highlight of the evening.
Service was excellent but the food was very disappointing. We all had the 5-course meal. I was a top french chef for 15 years and I'm a big fan of not overcooking foods, but Chef Mavro carries it too far. The scallops and lobster were barely warm and completely raw and this wasn't sushi. Two of us actually got a little sick from the food. I guess that explains why there were only 8 people total at the restaurant all evening and I'm guessing there are now 8 more people that won't ever go back.
As I told Donna and Chef Mavro, our trips to Honolulu are planned around staying at the Kahala and dining at Chef Mavro’s. This trip we brought our family and they were speechless. The Chef’s staff were exceptional and the food is an amazing experience.
We will be talking about this vacation for a long time.

Chef Mavro is the best. This restaurant is our favorite in the world. We have Made Honolulu our go to vacation spot because of Chef Mavro. This week’s vacation includes 2 visits to Chef Mavro’s.
The food is spectacular!
Non-descript location on S. King Street Honolulu with private parking... Superb French-Asian fusion cuisine from amuse bouche to the chocolate dessert for a very special occasion. Eat like a king/queen in a five start tranquil environment! Will definitely recommend to close friends and family!!!

but I waited too long for my food to arrive.
We had high expectations for this restaurant based on the reviews. However, our experience did not match our expectations. For the price paid, the service was rushed, the sommelier was condescending, the server was unfriendly and the chef came out twice to help serve other tables but never acknowledged us. This was a very expensive meal. The food was unremarkable especially considering the price, 700+ for 3 people. We were not impressed with the wine pairings and overall left feeling disappointed and cheated. We would not go back and would not recommend to others.
Marvelous experience in the heart of Honolulu. I would liken it to having dinner at a private club. The service was conscientious without being intrusive, the food was imaginative and sublime. We awaited each course with anticipation based on the last. A wonderful evening for all of us. Not one complaint. All compared the evening to among the best dining experiences they had had. We came at the recommendation of friends. We will recommend to others. If available, get the "salt baked fish" to share.

Came here with my wife for her birthday. This was our second visit. The first time we went, my wife and I really enjoyed it, but the most memorable part of the meal was the dessert. Out of the fine dining establishments we've tried out in the area, Chef Mavro stands out as the best place we've been to so far for the dessert.
We ordered the four course meal with an addition of the salt baked snapper. During the meal, we were also served some dinner rolls that came with a butter that had some seaweed in it. We greatly enjoyed that. Out of the entrees, the egg and morel dish and the salt baked snapper stood out the most. The egg was cooked to the perfect consistency (we like our eggs quite runny) and the prosciutto with the morel was such a good combination. However, presentation-wise, the salt baked snapper was truly impressive. They set up a small table and Chef Mavro came out to serve it. He cut open the salt crust mold to take out the snapper fillet and served it to the both of us. We were very impressed. And as expected, the dessert was truly amazing. My wife even made some comments about how she wished to live in the dessert.
Overall, would recommend for a special occasion.

The food was amazing. The service was exceptional. This was one of the best fine dining experiences I’ve ever had. They personalized our menu and presented a special birthday dessert for my husband. We would eat here again and again.
It was such a memorable evening at Chef Mavro to celebrate my birthday! Food was outstanding from the start to finish and the service was impeccable. Loved the Chef Mavro’s’ table side preparation of special risotto and that was super delicious too! Can’t wait to visit there again.
Unfortunately, there was a smell of old oil that both my guest and I picked up as soon as we entered the restaurant. My guest is an excellent chef and could not tolerate the smell so we were moved to a table in the back. The servers were very attentive and the food and wine were excellent.

The room is lovely: warm and gorgeous. Chef's wife welcomed us and this personal touch was appreciated. The food was excellent. I was not too keen on what I thought was a fairly aggressive attempt to up sell both an expensive mushroom dish and the truffles. Wish there was a better selection of less expensive bottles of wine. We settled on a good Sancerre at 90 which is pricey. The whole meal is gulpingly expensive but worth it.
We’ve been dinning at Chef Mavro for seven years. Specifically for very special occasions. Chef Mavro is the Jean Georges, La Bernardine of NYC. Impeccable ambiance. Service that should be cloned and sold to all new and old restaurants and food that seems to get better, more refined and more creative every year. I am and will always be someone who totally dislikes wine parings. Chef Mavro has chosen wines that truly mary each and every dish. Perfect acidity, delicate fruit and tannins that are refined. Reward yourself. It’s worth every penny, $$$$ of your bill. .
