very good food! was very impressed with the menu, the waiters were very attentive as well .
N/A having to say good food and great place to go to
Great place have been going there for years , I'll definitely be back !
Rude waiter put a damper on the whole doing experience . Lots more Spanish restaurants in the area ..
We had a party of 5 ladies, very pleasant attentive staff, food was wonderful, had a couple of pitchers of sangria, everyone enjoyed their dish. Would totally recommend Chateau of Spain. Looking forward to going back.
Our dining experience was wonderful from start to to finish. We arrived early for our reservation and were graciously swept away to our table. The servers were very attentive but not overwhelming. Very eager to please. I read many reviews for The Chateau of Spain, and it seemed the steak on a stone was the most highly recommended entree, but it wasn't on the menu. Our server said they don't put it on the menu any longer because it takes a very long time (I think it was 40 minutes) to heat the stone. The steak came out sizzling on the stone, which still needed to cook. I cut the steak in thick slices then it cooked pretty quickly. The steak was delicious, absolutely delicious. My husband had shrimp scampi and he also enjoyed his meal. Don't forget the red sangria, it's wonderful. I'm not one to post reviews, but the food was exceptional. We will be coming back the next time we see a show at NJPac.
We came here before a show at Prudential Center. Very convenient and the food was excellent .The staff was great and so attentive .
If you are looking for something fancy in downtown Newark, then this is the place. The food is good, prices and ambiance are good. It is great if you just want to make your evening a little extra special, would not recommend for casual dining.
The Portuguese restaurant that isn't in the Ironbound section. Very convenient if you go to Prudential Center for a game or show (2 blocks walk) The food and service were very good. The place was very busy but our party of 2 were seating quickly upon arrival. The bar scene for a Friday was hopping and the music/noise level was a little loud but not offensive.
Garlic shrimp appetizer was very good as were the entrees. I had a veal and Spanish sausage dish that was very tasty and the portion was large. My friend had the Salmon covered in garlic shrimp and he was extremely happy with it. The red sangria was very good also. No room for dessert. Definitely recommend this place although the Friday/Saturday night crowd has to be your thing. I've had the "stone steak" here in the past and also recommend it.
Love the sangria. Very good Spanish /Portuguese restaurant.
The food and service were excellent....I would recommend it to friends and also family members...The atmosphere along with the friendly service will make me come back...we loved the different choices of entree to choose from as well.....Also it was my wife's birthday and the staff came out with a delicious piece of chocolate cake and sang happy birthday, it was wonderful.
My go-to restaurant before a show at the Prudential Center. only a few blocks away - park the car in prudential lot , walk a few block to the restaurant and then to the show.
The restaurant has two different spaces - the downstairs bar area which is lively and fun and a separate room upstairs for quieter dining.
the food has never disappointed me. This is one of the few Spanish/Portugese restaurants where I regularly order the steak instead of seafood - they are that good. of course, we always order a big dish of seafood paella for the table, which is one of the best I've tasted (excluding a visit to Spain). Their sangria is not too sweet - just right in the opinion of this wine drinker.
the only negative (and it's a minor one), sometimes the waiters have pretty thick accents and can be hard to understand, but once you get past that hurdle, the food is very worth trying.
Overall the service was bad, the food was nasty and processed not sure if they have a chef. I was disappointed with the whole experience.
My family and I celebrated my brother in laws birthday and the food was great and the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. They were awesome with our three daughters and catered to their requests. We will definitely be going again soon.
Had a fabulous mean along with the best red Sangria I ever tasted!
Enjoyed a comfortably paced meal with a friend before attending Joel Osteen event a few blocks away. Read reviews on YELP and they were spot on. The food was delicious and plentiful, balanced beautifully with white Sangria. The waitstaff were attentive, helpful and very polite. For a Friday evening the upstairs dining room moderately quiet for a full room. My friend and have now both put the Chateau of Spain on our must return list. The special Seafood in Green Sauce was so good I would eat it as a soup.
Food was amazing...really loved their octopus in garlic sauce with shrimp special
Will definitely return to eat here when i have an event at prudential
Basically dissapointed as they did not honor the OpenTable reservation and I had to wait about an hour. My confirmed reservation was for 6pm through my open table app and didn't sit tik
Food is excellent and well prepared. Service is top notch and wait time is just right.
Great value. Waiters are the best. I like eating upstairs. A little nicer. Tables are spaced out.
I went here at the recommendation of a friend who dines here regularly. Normally I'm not a huge Portuguese food fan but this place was a pleasant surprise. They had many different food options on the menu and I was able to find something I enjoyed very much. They even had collard greens on the menu! The noise level was on the high side as it seemed the folks in the bar were having a good time. My friends told me they usually dine upstairs which is quieter and a more refined experience, but that area was closed for a party the night we were there.
One of the big pluses for this place is its proximity to the Pru Center. We were actually able to take a shortcut path right near the restaurant and we were at the Pru Center in minutes. Next time I'm going to an event here I will dine at Chateau of Spain again.
Attended dinner with friends before a local concert and all were pleased! The Valentines weekend menu was priced well and selections were outstanding! I had the stuff salmon with shrimp and garlic sauce and it was finger licking good! Highly recommended this location and food.
Food was amazing & good size portions. We ordered appetizers thinking the entree would be small portions but it wasn't necessary.
Good, wholesome food, super large portions, great price. We got here on a frigid night after a show at Prudential Center, and were delighted with our experience
Ordered our food for the five of us, the steak dinner came out rate it was suppose to be medium rare by the time it came back out every body else was almost done eating. Service was slow and there was no mention that if we were attending the Jeff Dunham show that there was a 10 percent discount, we didn't find that out till we were in the show. Very disappointed with the first and probably last experience.
I was very disapointed with the food, my dinner was only 4 skinny lamb chops, that were done not to my liking. We have been to so many spanish restaurants all over N.J. this one can't compete with any. What people think are huge portions no way, stay away from this spot!
Went here before a Devil Ranger game. It was my Friends 50TH Birthday. The Wait Staff could not have been any nicer or accommodating. Food came out fast;because we had to make the game. Food was delicious. Asked ahead of time if I could bring a Gluten free cake to have for desert ,It was my friends birthday. They said of course. After diner the cake was brought out with candles and we sang Happy Birthday. They where and are so pleasant. Great place to eat before a game or anytime your in Newark.
Good food in this local find. We enjoyed this restaurant and it's close proximity to the Prudential Center for a concert
And you want to hang with friends, then this is a good place to go. The prices are reasonable and the people who run it are quite nice. The food is one step above arena food. It's not great, by any means. But it's fine and it will provide a good preconcert or pre game chance to just sit back and enjoy each other's company, which is what our group of six did, and everyone was happy.
Although the downstairs was very noisy, the upstairs dining room was very nice and quiet. Even as the room filled up, our party was still able to comfortably hear each other without yelling or raising our voice. it was such a pleasant experience. Our Bergen County friends were pleasantly surprised.!!!
We have been to this restaurant a couple of times before Devil's hockey games...it is a short walk to the Prudential Center. The wine list is a little limited but the menu is solid and the food is very good. Service was terrific as well. The biggest caution I have is bring your appetite. The portions are enormous. We will definitely be back!
Not very good. Old feeling
Not as good as I thought it might be....good location for "The Rock" in Newark.
Overall, it was "OK".....
Very nice time with friends. Perfect place for a very good meal before a Devils hockey game. Very good food plus the sangria was excellent.
the food was great! the service was great! just to let you know the plates are great for sharing if youre not super hungry, which made the really great prices even better.
Food was not good, either overly seasoned or under seasoned. Paella was the worst I've had. Waitress was very nice.
Had entire restaurant to ourselves on a Wednesday night. Staff catered to us and couldn't have asked for more .
Service and food were fine and the four of us were very happy with everything until we got the check. The menu tells you that they add tip to the bill - that is fine. However, when we got back our credit card someone how the bill gained an extra 10 dollars. Was it a mistake - who knows, but in the effort to fix this, our credit card at one point had three pending charges from them. The right amount did clear and somehow we ended up with $10 credit from them also. We will bring cash next time. Many of the dishes are big enough to share with 2-3 people, so get a couple of apps and split the entree. Sangria was very good.
I went to a concert and stop by. I guess it was the manger (due to him being will dressed wearing glasses with spiky hear) seat us down at a table right away on there 1st floor. The shrimp in garlic and the paella are the best. Huge portions too bad I couldn't take it to go. Stevie wonder
Service and food good except my lamb chops were total fat. Told the waiter and not sure he understood English well. Otherwise paella and shrimp were excellent as well as appetizers. Would go again but not order meat They should not hav charged me for the lamb chops
