One is always warmly greeted at this restaurant. It is very comfortable, the smell of a bit of smoke in the air from a roaring fireplace. Service was excellent. A young man helped us make a wine selection that we appreciated and it was of great value, $24. Our entire meal, with muscles as an appetizer, duck and trout entrees, and wine was just at $100. The presentation was beautiful and the portions generous. We were poured complimentary glasses of their new Port style wine. The chef, sous chef an owner and other staff came to our car as we were pulling out in the fog to wish us well and thank us!!!

What a wonderful way to wrap up a holiday weekend. After most of our guests left the day before, four of us enjoyed a delicious meal with that special ambiance which Chateau Morrisette provides so beautifully. It was a wonderfully memorable dining experience that allowed us to stretch the holiday to one more day!

This place is so beautiful and peaceful inside. There was a nice fire in the fireplace when we arrived. The view is amazing and the service was friendly and professional. Best of all the food was AMAZING!! The best we've had in SWVA so far. We have already made reservations to return in December. It's an hour drive from our house but TOTALLY worth it. And we picked up so great gifts in the winery/tasting room next door while we were there 😉

Our meal was perfect. We both ordered Steak and Roasted Fingerling Potatoes. The steak was cooked to perfection and the potatoes were cooked just right! The steaks had a unique taste that not too many cooks are able to acquire. Slight glaze on top to provide the perfect finish to the taste of every bite. Beautiful, simple but elegant presentation. And those pickled onions on the salad!!!!! Yes! Oshie, the head Chef, and his kitchen, delivers in spades. Our server, Sadie, was so attentive and missed nothing on the table. The entire staff was always so supportive of each other. Our observation was that every table in the restaurant was well tended as much as ours. Gunnie, the manager, is an awesome gentleman! He was very attentive, pays close attention to his staff, the overall mood of the restaurant, and the patrons. Every guest entering the door was promptly greeted. Exceptional customer service - something that is lacking in the hospitality profession these days! Upon seating, we were brought piping hot, fresh bread and perfect butter. May sound crazy but nothing any worse than having bread with a cold lump of butter to place on top from a pack or cold dish. You will not get cold, lump butter at Chateau Morrisette. The churned butter appeared to be whipped and blended for a perfect spreading on hot bread. Little things like this matter and are not overlooked here. We chose Petit Verdot for our wine with dinner. Just amazing wine with the steak. Next, we went down to the winery to enjoy an afternoon of seeing dogs roam around and taste Chateau's new Heritage wine. This wine is over the top. It is a port style wine with an amazing body and finish - nothing short of amazing for such a young wine, brand spanking new to the Chateau Morrisette long line of great wines. As always, Chateau Morrisette restaurant and winery never disappoints. As always, we will be back soon - real soon...

Party of 4, 3 entres: trout/wild rice, shrimp/grits, duck/potatoes. All was good except wild rice, which was stick-to-your-teeth crunchy (badly under-cooked.) A replacement serving of rice was delivered when we mentioned it to our waitress upon her routine "how is everything?" moment, but the replacement rice was also crunchy--maybe hints a bit of a lack of attention to detail in the kitchen. Our Open Table reservation was confirmed, but was mishandled by the hostess so we were overlooked (after checking in) for about 30 minutes. We were happy by the fireplace as we waited, but we were seated only after raising our concern to the hostess as later reservations were being seated ahead of us. In consideration of the rice, they did graciously comp drinks, but not at their own initiative. Really nice people, great setting, overall satisfactory, but not on par with many other restaurants at similar price point.

Started with a glass of wine (which was excellent) near a roaring fire, because we were early for our reservation. We were seated at our reservation time in a lovely table where we could watch the sunset. Unfortunately, that was the end of a lovely evening. We waited quite a while for our server, who finally took our appetizer selection - Winemaker's Cheese board. It was brought to the table, with no explanation of the selection of cheeses. The board was very small and no great selection in any of the cheeses. We had to ask for appetizer plates as the young man that brought it our table just put it on the table and left. Our waitress came over and said it was starting to get busy so she wanted to get our entree orders in before the "kitchen got too busy". My husband ordered shrimp and grits and I ordered smoked duck. The waitress asked if medium was ok for the duck and I said it would be fine. We finished our cheeseboard - no one came to clear our dishes, or ask if we wanted a refill on our wine and then we waited....and waited-for almost 45 minutes for our meal. My husband's shrimp and grits was very good - "the shrimp was cooked perfectly" and grits were done in a patty-type presentation; where they were flashed fried which he said was very nice. My duck, however, was oversalted and VERY rare the potatoes that came with the duck were ice cold in the center. We ordered creme brulee as a dessert which, too, was disappointing. There was very little custard and it didn't have much flavor. We had to ask for our check and it took almost 20 minutes before we got that. It was a rather disappointing night. We had so looked forward to the evening as we had made reservations almost 2-1/2 weeks in advance as the restaurant is almost always booked. Not sure that we would return.

I had high expectations for the restaurant, but the atmosphere is very outdated, it looks not very pleasant, the food was good but not excellent. We arrived early for our reservation, they made us wait until the exact time of the reservation, to settle in a room where all the tables were empty, we did not understand the reason for the wait. The wine tasting location is a nice area and I may return only to that part of the location. The wine we had was a riesling and it is highly recommended.

My issue is with the Chateau Morrisette Winery. The restaurant served us the Archival II wine for $8/glass. It was a decent wine. Better than the cab and the other offerings. When we went to the winery to purchase a bottle of the Archival II Mellisa Morrisette insisted it was $60/bottle and that her son didn’t know what he was doing to charge $8/glass, that the winery charged $5 for a tasting and $15 for a glass. I told her that it would be easy to go back to the restaurant and order 4 glasses but keep them in the bottle. She said that the restaurant wouldn’t seat us because it was reservation only even though we had just come from there, they weren’t busy and we’ve been seated without reservations before. Most restaurants like to have customers. She then insisted that the cost of a glass of wine had nothing to do the cost of a bottle which is decidedly incorrect. Four glasses is a bottle. I have no idea why she was so desperate except to say that the Archival II is a good wine but not a great wine. It is not worth $60. It is worth $30 if you want to spend a little more than its actual value of maybe $25 for the memory of a nice meal. But it is in no way worth as much as a Stags Leap, or Quilt, or any of the other very good wines we’ve had that are worth $60/bottle. Perhaps if you are into charitable donations you might pay $60. Regardless even though we have been to the restaurant and the winery many times over the years we will not return due to Ms Morrisettes abrasive attitude

Simply exceptional. Chateau Morrisette continues to never disappoint. We had a wonderful day of tasting great wines and a fine lunch at Chateau Morrisette's restaurant. We come here often for their cordial and vibrant atmosphere, stellar food at their restaurant, and truly exceptional wines. Our steak at the restaurant was exquisite. No kidding. One of the best steaks we've had. The potato was perfect and the wines that we had paired spot-on with the meal. During this visit - and others - we are always promptly seated, the food is always prepared and brought to the table hot and fresh. The wait staff are always hospitable, professional, courteous, prompt, but never over-bearing. Chef Oshie Morrisette is an amazing young man and incredible Chef. It just so happens that he is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America - Napa, California. We have had several of his dishes from Sweet Potato Ravioli to fine steaks. We have never been disappointed, and you won't be either! Chateau Morrisette's restaurant is an amazing experience of fine foods, fine wines, beautiful views from the surrounding topography and the absolute very best staff. The winery, located on the same property, is an experience all unto itself. From the beautiful, massive timber-frame building, cellar, and tasting room (with a beautiful fireplace) to the vast selection of wines - like the restaurant - you will not be disappointed. We have been to wineries from New York to Florida and few can match the selection of the wines from Chateau Morrisette. Most of their wines are multi-award winning wines - taste and you'll see why. Their wines are exceptional and well-priced and their Archival II is simply amazing. Their restaurant and the food they serve is over the top and both the staff of the winery and the restaurant are second to none. David and Melissa Morrisette have undergirded this business and their brand with excellence.

Fod was prepared to perfection. Our server was awesome. When on the fence between two entrees, our server provided extra details so I could make informed decision. While this isn't a coat efficient weekly go to, while other places escalated in price, the price here did not making it good value. I think even chef Ramsay would be unable to fault anything with our lunch and service.

Perhaps hire a few more servers to provide more attention to the Payron (water refills, bring the bill, do ya want desserts etc.). The view was besutwith the fall leaves and the sunset but some maintenance in the slate steps coming up the stairs is urgently required
