Great food and service
We have visited the "Chateau" as we call it for over 18 years. Our visit this past Sunday was great. We had a very nice server Julie. She was right on the spot and also gave us our space for conversation and private time. Julie was very intuitive for our needs and always exhibited a kind smile and took time out to converse with us as we had several good laughs with Julie. Jordan is a great host he had our table arranged and ready for us the way we like at the window with a view. We always get special attention at the "Chateau" and love coming here as much as possible. The entire staff is just plain GREAT! I wish the kitchen would bring back the "brulee" desert choice.
Wonderful views, seated by the fireplace. We visit family each year and this is always on our agenda. Love the restaurant and the location on the parkway!
Wind your way down the Blue Ridge Parkway and discover Chateau Morrisette. With views of the valley below from every window, a beautiful dining room with gleaming wood floors and food paired with their delicious wines, this gem of a restaurant is a must for any visit to Southern Virginia. Not far from the music and rustic bustle of downtown Floyd, Chateau Morrisette pairs its delicious Virginia wines with wonderful local foods. Its lunch menu has something for everyone with sandwiches, salads, warm and cold appetizers, and delicious hot entrees. The seasonal risotto, paired with a side salad and cheese plate served by the fire was the perfect winter meal. We look forward to warmer weather to enjoy the seating on the patio and wine on the courtyard. Will come again!
As always the food and atmosphere were wonderful. This is one of our favorite places to go to for a meal. It is a 2 hour drive for us but worth every mile.
We always love stopping in. Julie & staff are amazing in the restaurant. Gift shop & winery are fun! Always a good time.
Enjoyed the lunch, the ambiance and the staff. Top notch service...friendly, efficient and interactive. All-in-all, a very good time.
Four of us went here to celebrate two birthdays, which we noted in our reservation, for a December lunch. We'd done a wine tasting first, which was top notch, in the tasting room, and we picked a wine we wanted with our lunch. Alas, that wine was not available in the restaurant, though it was on the wine list, and we had to settle for something else. There was no fire in the fireplace, which would have made things much nicer as I'd requested to be beside the fireplace. Our server seemed in a hurry, and we felt a little rushed in making our food choices. The menu was fairly limited, and two of the meals at our table were just barely satisfactory. In fact, one member of our party felt quite ill by the time evening rolled around, though I can't say that is from the food he ate (mussels). When the main course was done and we looked at the dessert menu, we were informed that there was no ice cream which was a sore disappointment as we were celebrating birthdays. At other winery restaurants we've been to, when they know it is your birthday, they always bring a complimentary dessert. No so at Chateau Morrisette. Though the winery was offering 20% off all wine, which I'd seen in an email and which we were told in the tasting room, we were not given that discount with our meal. All said and done, we will not be eating at the restaurant again, though we will may stop in again for another tasting come summer. We were disappointed mostly because for several years, Chateau Morrisette was our favorite place to go for a special meal. It used to be wonderful, with delicious food, terrific and friendly service, and a warm atmosphere, but the past couple of times we've been here, it has been quite lackluster in food options and service, and this most recent meal was truly a letdown in every way.
Great meal shared with friends . Food was excellent
Comfortable setting. Great food. Scenic location. I highly recommend.
We come to the area every year for a Christmas tree. The winery and restaurant is part of the tradition as something to add to the festivities. This place is really special. Beautifully decorated for the season and several fireplaces add to the coziness of the intimate dining rooms. The staff are all very friendly, attentive and no request or question (allergy) was frowned upon. No complaints from our party about the food either. One of our party is very picky and critical, her first time joining us, and she was very satisfied. We really enjoy our visits every time.
Wonderful food, view, atmosphere and service. We discovered Chateau Morrisette years ago while living in North Carolina near the Virginia foothills. Although we now live in Georgia, we make it a point to go a bit out of our when traveling so we can enjoy the fine food and wine. The lovely drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway is an added bonus.
Great destination across a parking lot from a nice winery. Nice cozy atmosphere, quiet with a great view.
We chose it to celebrate our anniversary. We had reservations on a Sunday for lunch. The food was very good, the service was very good, the ambiance was very good. We'll go back when the Blue Ridge Parkway is open so access to the Chateau Morrisette is easier. The wind was howling and the fog was thick, and the fire in the lobby went out because the wood was wet. We went to the winery for a tasting afterward. It was a good day, with our meal at the heart of it.
The either evening was wonderful from the tasting to the meal. The dessert was phenomenal!!
We had a wonderful weekend with our daughters who traveled from Chicago and New York to spend Thanksgiving with us in Fancy Gap. A perfect place for a family get together. Great gluten free options.
A top notch experience all around. Had lunch in the restaurant first (separate building from the wine tasting). The food was all excellent but the potato leek soup was especially notable. After a leisurely lunch, Wales over to the wine tasting room....nicer and larger than expected. Tastings were generous (ten wines and 3 hard ciders) and quite good. Very friendly and helpful staff.
We were pleasantly surprised to see so many gluten free options on the menu. The wait for our meal was a bit too long, but we enjoyed the warm olive appetizer while sipping our wine in front of the fire. It was worth the drive. If going in the winter, take the Black Ridge Road route and dress warm. It's only 20 minutes from the Town of Floyd, but it's 10 degs. cooler and breezy.
The room we were located in was COLD! Too cold to eat! So we sucked down a good meal...didn’t enjoy it like we should. They did NOT offer to exclude any on the bill either. We had a nice and well knowledgeable server, but it was so COLD that it was not an enjoyable afternoon!
I had the scallops. Simply Delish! And the brussel sprouts! I took an order of brussel sprouts home with me, they were that good. Our waiter was wonderful. The ambiance is awesome!
Great atmosphere, delicious wine and outstanding food along with beautiful scenery. And..in the summer, if feel you eat outside you can bring your dog!
We had Sunday brunch at Chateau Morisette as part of our honeymoon. We loved our appetizers (cheese board and warm olives) and the delicious fresh mimosas. Our omelets were also delicious, although we found it odd that nearly everything on the menu came with a side of french fries... including the omelets. We also had a side of goat cheese grits which are amazing! Our waiter was personable and friendly, although not always as prompt as we would have liked. Overall, we enjoyed our visit.
My brother was visiting and took our mom and me to lunch. We had our favorite server and were seated in a smaller middle room with a fireplace. The ambiance was perfect for a cold windy day and the food, as always, was delicious. This is my 86 yr old mother’s favorite place to dine and we have come to Chateau Morrisette since it opened. It just gets better.
A great place to enjoy good wine and fine food that is prepared fresh every time. Just a good fun place to enjoy wine and a meal with friends.
We had eaten here before and the knew the food was not great, but the view is great. This time the food was even worse, but at least there is a view. Too bad they can't have good food, I will bring a picnic next time.
I didn't like our table- back room, no window. With the view outside I would have loved a window seat. The menu was limited- mostly not very good sandwiches. We had the steak sandwich-not very good. We also had the meat and cheese platter- it was excellent! The wine was great.
This was our third dinner at Chateau Morrisette in the past 10 days, and all three dining experiences were FABULOUS! The sunset this past Saturday evening was absolutely stunning. Julie was our server all three nights, upon my request, and she is an outstanding hostess, waitress, and just a wonderful person! The food was consistent in flavor and quality and we love the wine! We delighted in the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Archival, three of our favorites. Chateau Morriette will remain a treat when we are spending the weekend at our cabin in the Blue Ridge Mtns.
We recently dined for lunch and had Julie as our server. She was also our server for a couple of other visits and is always pleasant, professional and polite. We experienced a bit of a timing issue due to a larger party ahead of us but Julie made sure we were well taken care of and explained the delay from the kitchen. Everyone is very nice and the view is always spectacular unless of course it is foggy. Thank you!
My wife and I had lunch here for our one year anniversary. Both the winery and restaurant offer a unique atmosphere with beautiful outdoor views. They have a very large selection of wines, craft brews, and ciders.
The food was mediocre. Not horrible, just blah. I would be willing to give it another shot though just for the experience.
Food was terrible. Mussels so small you could barely see. Steak so tough it couldn't be chewed. Service very poor as well.
Brought my brother and his wife who were visiting from out of town. They are wine lovers who enjoy wines from all over the world. They liked the wines and the food at the restaurant.
Food was very good. Caesar salad did not have enough dressing on it. I am not a lover of a lot of dressing but this was almost dry. For $10 I expected more. Service was a little slow. We had to ask for a dessert menu, as well as our check. No coffee was ready to drink with our dessert-really? One sandwich, 1 entree, salad, and a glass of wine was over $71 before tip. Scenery was gorgeous and there was a fire going in the fireplace which was very nice.
Excellent food and wine. Our server was great; however, we sat at the bar after our meal for 25 minutes waiting for somebody to acknowledge us for another drink and to purchase a few bottles of wine. .... never happened so we left. Will be back though. Great place overall.
I took my wife for her birthday and we were accompanied by my son and my wife's mother. We made a reservation for brunch. When we arrived, we were almost immediately greeted and they had our table ready. (minimal waiting) We were disappointed to learn that brunch was actually just a few menu items that included eggs on them. I should have investigated better but a few years ago brunch was actually a buffet brunch. They hadn't had brunch again until this year. Wine selection was adequate as well as the beers. Meat and cheese plate a bit skimpy for $17 and should have included a few crackers or some more bread for 4 of us. The menu was limited to about 8 choices and not very varied. We all got the steak sandwich at $15. Again a bit pricey and the bread was as hard as a rock. It should have been cut into halves but was not. I asked for a steak knife to cut it and i still had trouble. I had to help cut my mother-in-law's and my wife's sandwiches. Neither one of them are wimpy-just how tough the bread was. Server was great but we did not get a refill on our cokes. Atmosphere was noisey due to the high ceilings and an almost full dining crowd. This has become an October tradition for us and even with the minor complaints we will be back next year. The grounds were nice for this time of year but the parking was a bit haphazard and had to park on a slight slope which made it difficult for my elderly mother-in-law to exit and enter the vehicle. I just wish for a Sunday afternoon there were more dinner type choices.
We wanted to go someplace special with our friends visiting from Key Largo, FL. After a beautiful drive up the parkway from Roanoke, we had a lovely meal and they chose several bottles of wine to ship home. We all really enjoyed our meal.
We have been visiting the "Chateau" [as we call it] for over 18 years. We met many fine staff members during those years. Some have moved on and new quality staff have replaced them. We enjoy Jason C our waiter as he is very intuitive and does not rush us, allows us space to talk and absorb the wonderful "Chateau" atmosphere. [give him a big fat raise] Jordon is an excellent hostess and moves customers smoothly to assigned tables and is well organized and friendly. Richard is a assistant table waiter who was very nice, accommodating and personable.
"Go Chateau" ... JohnPatriciaSchmidt
We enjoyed a tasty meal made with local ingredients. The wine selection was varied and reasonably priced. We enjoyed a bottle of red from the Chateau Morrisette Winery. The desserts were awesome. The service was excellent.
Absolutely outstanding. Been a few times before and brought friends who have never been there. This couple is very picky but raved over the quality of the food and atmosphere.
Our visit was nothing less than five star stellar. From the view off of the porch, to the service of both are smiling white dress and all of the crew, to the meal… It was all absolutely fantastic, delicious, in all around wonderful. We will be back!
What a lovely meal I had with my family at Chateau Morrisette this week-end! The weather was crisp and fall-like, but the sun was shining into the dining room (we lucked up with a window seat), and we enjoyed a delicious leisurely lunch on a beautiful fall day. This is an amazing place to enjoy the best that the Blue Ridge has to offer. Great wine, good food, reasonably priced - a real treat. Highly recommend.
