We have been coming to Chateau Morrisette since 1996, and the past three times the food has been mediocre. We were there Sunday for brunch and we both ordered hamburgers, one medium well the other medium. My husband’s burger was completely raw for medium, he ate it anyway. Mine was what I would consider medium rare, so I sent it back. They took my burger that I had cut in half and recooked it. Then they did not comp us for anything. I had to wait another 10-15 minutes for my order to come out. Just not good customer service when they screwed up!! What is crazy is the atmosphere is so nice.
Food and service have been inconsistent since the big reorg some years ago which saw the departure of the chef and a lot of the staff. Currently, the appetizer list is uninspiring. Two cheese plates, and neither are very good. However, the fried brussels sprouts are outstanding. Not a fan of the dense, cake-like bread with molasses-butter. Give me a good French roll with herbed butter every time. The salad with smoked goat cheese was fit for a horse (took a lot of chewing) the dressing was tasteless, and as usual with mid-level restaurants, the smokiness was too much. Entrees are also so-so. The chicken and trout were good but not great. The clams and spaghetti was over-salted and full of sand. The shrimp and grits were under par, with bland grits, a rather strange dark gravy, a few undersized shrimp, and mushrooms that added nothing to the dish. The duck has been consistently tough. Steaks have been fatty and gristly. Really miss a few great items from the past: the outstanding crabcake (one of the best I've had and I'm from the Eastern Shore), the salmon stuffed with crabmeat, and a really good steak. We go for the view, the ambience, the good wines, and the interesting clientele that this place continues to attract.
Great place for dinner and a bottle of Chateau Morrisette wine. The menu has lots of local flavor.
If you are in the area be sure to make a reservation and sit outside.
Phenomenal food and an amazing view! Even the indoor seating is awesome. The interior has a cozy atmosphere.
Waiter was great he even sung happy birthday to my wife
This past Saturday we brought another couple to Chateau Morrisette-Restaurant for an early dinner (5:30pm) where I had made reservations for after the wonderful Beach Fest Event.
Our meal was much less by normal standards than we expected or had experienced in the past. Just feel like if no one express true feelings to you, then you don’t know about experiences (and also the couple at the table two away felt the exact same).
For appetizer we all four got the green salad, but received an extremely tough kale type salad which only included slivered almonds and rhubarb stems. None of us could hardly chew the toughness of the greens and the stems were unappetizing. We did express this to the waitress with no response (but this is when the couple next to us expressed the same feelings).
For the duck dish we received a very small leg and thigh. We just sort-of laughed and again the couple next to us expressed how it looked like a child’s portion. It was not filling at all nor was the amount of that entire dish.
Then the clams dish. I was sick late Saturday night and started feeling that way shortly after we left the restaurant. Were these fresh clams?
None of the desserts looked appetizing so we didn’t get anything like we normally do.
I hope you will accept this in as much of a kind light as possible.
We were at the Chateau for lunch, and we were quite impressed by the friendliness and efficiency of the service and the high quality of the food. The restaurant is attractive, and given its location just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, it must allow for some casual attire. If the weather is good, sit outside on the terrace. Umbrellas at each table provide shade but don't interfere with the gorgeous view.
our food was excellent and presented on the plate nicely. our server was 1st class and a pleasure!!
Loved the wine and food. Great for dining with friends.
Food was great. Portion was small for the amt of money with shrimp and grits.
Everything else was great. Four of us had the grits and we all felt the same.
Dear Restaurant Staff:
We enjoyed another wonderful visit with the Chateau restaurant! The weather was beautiful and we enjoyed the view from our table window. We have been coming to the Chateau for over 18 yrs. and come here every chance we get. We had Jason C. as our server and he always does a superb service. Jason gives us our space and knows the right time to come to our table offering service, food & wine suggestions and chat which makes us feel welcome. Jason deserves a raise as he is the best in his field.

Hamburgers were over cooked. Wine requested not available. Substitute was twice the price
We thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor seating. The food was delicious with great portion sizes. The chocolate dessert was a truly amazing creation!
Stopped here for lunch and a wine tasting on our road trip. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was nice.
We had a great time as we have celebrated our anniversary with you for the past 10 consecutive years. We will come back; the atmosphere is great. I will admit the food was a bit disappointing and a tad lower than in previous years
The food was outstanding; best rainbow trout I have ever ordered.
We had a wonderful time. The wine tasting was fantastic, as was the food in the restaurant. Excellent service and amazing views.
The service was great. The food was fantastic and the servers were amazing.
The food has greatly improved since March 10th when we dined with friends.
Really wish there was an option in your lovely sandwiches for gluten free people.
We enjoyed our lunch on the patio. The scenery was beautiful and we didnt let a passing rain shower ruin our afternoon. We look forward to coming back when the leaves are turning in the fall!!
Excellent service from the staff, they were friendly and the food was great too
For us to visit, we had to arrange a sitter for our very young children and drive about an hour both ways. Although we enjoyed the wine tasting and the property, the unique and absolutely delicious meal made it all absolutely worth it. I’m fact, it is why we drove so far. We had an appetizer, meal, and dessert. Each were better than what I can make at home and so, were exquisite. We also really appreciated the affordable wine choices on the menu. Some of the staff could have been more friendly, especially in the tasting room. It was a lovely experience.
We are 2 1/2 hours away but enjoy the day experience of the lunch and wine tasting. Would love them to open a bed and breakfast so we could enjoy dinner there!
Julie is a fantastic server!! Very well versed on the menu and wines. Enjoyed our time on the deck watching the sun set on the mountains.
Excellent as always! We sat outside on the terrace where God provided a wonderful sunset! Our favorite go to restaurant on the Blue Ridge Parkway!
Always enjoyable! Incredible views.
Enjoyed smoked trout salad.
Wonderful food in a delightful setting. This is high qyality food, done well
We sure do miss the duck eggs that were a fave of ours with the last chef, and would like to see more choices for the Sunday menu, overall it was still a great time!
The scenic mountain drive and final destination made for a memorable wedding anniversary. The breathtaking view, wonderful food and lovely wine just added to the memories we made.
Excellent experience!! Our server was new & she told us that up front as well as the change in the menu. She was really sweet & did an amazing job!
We will return
Our favorite get-away. We try to get to the Parkway a couple of times per year. CM is the best winery on the BRP.
My wife and I enjoyed a great day by attending Chateau Morrisettes Black Dog Country Music Festival followed by dinner at their restaurant on their back deck overlooking the mountains. Great Music, Great Food, Great Service and nice people at a beautiful venue. Thank You!
We were pleased with the service. This was our first time there. Our waiter was very helpful when we had questions. It was quiet until a group of six were seated near us. They were loud. The food was good.
The service was excellent from start to finish. We went slightly later in the day so the restaurant wasn’t as busy. The food was delicious as always. I love their varied appetizer menu. I had a pork barbecue sandwich and fries as well as the grilled Brussels sprouts, which my dining companions enjoyed with me.
Overall, this was a wonderful experience.
Fabulous food and ambiance
Awesome food. The chef has designed a delicious menu. Impeccable service.
We had heard about Chateau Morrisette, but this was our first outing there. It was pretty day, so we requested outdoor seating and we were so glad we did. The view was beautiful. They have many wine choices from their own winery from red, dry, white, or sweet. My husband and I have very different wine tastes, but we each found something we liked. The meal was delicious and pleasing to the eye. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgable. And dessert was delicious also!
It was our anniversary so we decided to have lunch at Chateau Morrisette. It’s one of my most favorite places to eat. The food was marvelous, from the appetizer to the dessert. Of course the wine was outstanding.. if you like red wine... I highly recommend the Black Dog. We ate inside but several people where eating outside and enjoying the beautiful view. I highly recommend Chateau Morrisette for lunch, brunch, dinner or any occasion.
Great destination spot. Scenic with great wine and excellent food.
