I went to Central Standard for brunch and had an amazing experience! The waiter was accommodating, the service was great, and the food was very tasty!
I love the ambiance of CS but it seems like every time we eat there, something always goes wrong. When we arrived, we were told that we would have to wait a few minutes for our table to be cleared (we had a reservation). We headed to the bar and decided to order a round before we were seated. It took over twenty minutes for our table to be ready, and just as long for us to receive one round of drinks. There were two bartenders which was way too few considering the amount of people surrounding the bar. Once we ordered, the bar tender told us not to bother closing out; and that he would just transfer the tab to our table. A few minutes later, the hostess came to seat us, but told us we needed to close our tab before being seated. We flagged down the bartender, explained that we needed to close our tab and he proceeded to close us out but he looked really annoyed with the hostess. After we were seated, we ordered some more drinks and amazing appetizers. The server was attentive and knowledgable and I have no complaints about him but he was obviously VERY busy and the kitchen was taking a bit more time to put out the food than I would have preferred...then we received the entrees. We ordered three burgers and the flank steak. All three burgers were burnt. As in crispy. I asked my husband to tell the server but at that point everything was taking so long, everyone just wanted to leave. My flank steak arrived undercooked. I typically like medium rare, but CS tends to undercook their steak (and not their burgers apparently?) so I ordered medium (expecting medium rare) and I received a RARE steak. It was good, but I would say three ounces of the cut was just a big fatty tendon right in the middle of the cut. So I ate the ends but left the middle.
Overall, I do like CS. It's a great place for drinks and apps, but I can't recommend this place for dinner. It's the little details that make for a great eating-out experience, and CS just can't seem to make it to the finish line
We went for Saturday brunch. I really wanted to like this place because it’s such a cute atmosphere and the food looked awesome. However, we had a pretty subpar experience. When we first got there, we sat for 15 min without anyone acknowledging our table/taking drink orders. Had to ask one of the hostesses to send over our server. She was very nice and apologetic but was obviously stressed. Would love to comment on the food but I never got my entree....until I asked (for the 2nd time) to just remove it from our check. I ordered a biscuit for my daughter and had a couple bites, but it was cold and kind of hard. If it had been fresh, think it would’ve been good. My husband ordered the turkey club and it was served without the turkey lol. Had to send it back and get turkey put on it. Bloody Mary was really good and my husband and my friend enjoyed their food. I had a few French fries and those were good too. Hope it was just an “off” day - May try again.
Great service, great atmosphere.
Food was not good.
I’ll be back for a 2.nd time
Very average food, dull menu and terrible coffee. Not sure why it has such high reviews.
The food was good with the exception of the desserts and some bitter espresso’s
Food and service were fantastic!
Great food and service
Great service. Good and beverage selection outstanding.
Fun, relaxed lunch
Great food but very poor experience.
We love this place but our last visit was waaaay off... the guy (Australian maybe) helping our waitress bring out food was upset when he brought my food out wrong and I asked him to fix it. He acted as if I should just pick things off of my burger. So, he took it back and all they did was pick the things off of my burger that wasn’t supposed to be on it in the first place and he brought it back to me — I could still taste the things that were on it that I don’t like the taste of... hence why I ordered it without certain things.
Also, we were there with another couple and the waitress acted upset when she brought us the ticket and we asked her to split it. I feel like that’s a good question to ask up front if two couples are dining together. Our other experiences here have always been amazing, though — but we do usually sit at the bar. 🙃
Great food. Great service. Highly recommend you give them a try
We had a great after church brunch. I had a superior turkey, bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich with fries. My wife enjoyed six eastern oysters and then a well-prepared shrimp salad. Our server was attentive but not too much so. As this was our first visit, we enjoyed the modern atmosphere. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.
The food was just OK. For an expensive restaurant, we expected more - the snapper was over salted and the salad came with a few small pieces of hanger steak. Bread cost extra. Do not recommend for value. Ambiance good and waiter very good. Also the deviled eggs had an overpowering horseradish taste.
Everything was great. Loved the cheese board! The chopped salad wasn’t totally what I expected. Would have been a nice addition to have a Romano cheese.
Food came out fast. Server was nice! Food was just OK.
We wanted to try this place out, knowing that being in the SoCo hotel it would be expensive, but the staff seemed unaware of who our actual server was. The entire meal we had different people taking orders and other different people delivering them. It was odd. The food itself was good, but when I want a big dinner I’d definitely go somewhere else.
Went to brunch with my significant other, we sat outside with our dog and we’re greeted by a very friendly staff. Food was great, drinks were good too! Will definitely return!
Food was okay
Had roughly seven menu items, only one or two were decent enough. Either too boring, too salty, too this or that. There was no balance to anything, even the cocktails were too boozy (trust me, it was hard for me to type that)
Food was delicious, and service staff were attentive and friendly. Inside was a bit noisy - please invest in effective noise baffling - so we dined outside.
A dozen and a split! That’s the way to enjoy SoCo on a sunny Sunday!
Super salty / over-seasoned food. Bad service.
Good food, poor service
I am sorry we dropped the ball with service on your last visit, please reach out to me personally to further discuss your service experience and how we can improve in the future. Thank you, Christian Young Restaurant Manager
Dinner was enjoyable, but getting food was a on the slow side. We were not in a hurry, but dinner took longer than it should have even on a Friday night. Skip the charcuterie, but the flatbread and salmon on the fall menu were tasty.
We sat outside at dusk and were one of the few tables there so the service was awesome! So friendly, but not overly so... very genuine :)
Central Standard has a cool vibe and good location. Decor is diverse and attractive. We loved our cocktails but were not impressed with the food.
The initial experience at Central Standard was friendly and pleasant! Quickly this changed; we had an 11am reservation and were not served our food until 12:30. We watched as table after table entered the restaurant, sat down, were served, ate their food, and left. All the while we were told it had only been half an hour since our order had been taken. Simply untrue. The food and ambience of this establishment were great, I wish I felt comfortable recommending it to friends but given the defensiveness regarding the time it took to serve our food I would not feel comfortable doing so.
Great food, incredible service by Benjamin. Highly recommend!!
The food was servers cold. Our waitress was unapologetic and sent it to the kitchen to be reheated and sent back the same dish. Very unprofessional. I will not go back.
This is a pretty typical hotel restaurant, nothing was great or bad. Standout was the Bloody Mary which was delightfully spicy.
Good food in a cool space. Definitely would go back again.
Dinner was great..cocktails yummy.
Only problem was the restaurant neglected to tell open table that we had honored our reservation!
Otherwise great evening!
Felt like attending a bad soft opening. Past experiences had been better a couple years back were pretty good. This time the overpriced food was sup-bar to inedible and service was one of the worst experiences I've had in Austin. Save your time and money and visit any of the great restaurants in walking distance.
The decor is what really carries Central Standard. The food seems to have declined in quality since my last visit 6+ months ago.
Very pleasant, nice ambiance. Excellent food, good sized portions for Restaurant weeks. Will definitely highly recommend!
